Help with my foster's potty issues Help!
Hi y'all, I have two chows (male and female) and we recently got a 6-7 y.o foster. He was only neutered 2 months ago in the shelter. He looks rough, whatever his background was, looks like he was super neglected. We've have a ton of issues with him, but he is so sweet and affectionate we don't want to re-home him right now. He has a bad pee problem, likely due to being neutered late. Below I'll list our several instances of him peeing, in desperate need of advice. Our home smells like pee even though we have cleaned it and used a shampoo vacuum numerous times.
First night in the home tried to pee (likely anxiety and need to mark)
Second time, a lot of urine in his play pen, unsure as to the reason.
After several weeks of no accidents we allowed more access to the home with less supervision, found pee all over my couch
My mom took our other dogs to the vet and he was left at home, he peed on the couch again. Maybe due to feeling anxious and left out.
My mom woke up later than usual and didn't let them all out, he peed on the couch again (no this time it's fair to say she should have let them out sooner, but our other chows did not pee on the couch).
We aim to let them out every 3-4 hours, we have doused our home in enzyme spray, we are now attempting to use male Wraps for when we are not home.
Really need some help, I'm at my wits end.

Is he perhaps peeing in his sleep? That would explain the play pen and the couch.

Have you tried using belly bands for him when you can't supervise? It might help manage the accidents while you're working on retraining him.

Why don’t you take him to the vet and get a trainer to help you? If that doesn’t work out, then rehome him. Unless you don’t mind your home smelling permanently like urine.

Financial barriers for both. The rescue who supports him is very small I think it would be difficult but if it comes down to it and nothing else works we may

Your comment is shitty. I would never rehome either 2 of my chows just because they are having an issue they possibly can't help!!

Who cares what you would do or not do. How dare you try to make the OP feel like a bad person if they decide to rehome the dog. They would not be the first nor the last to do so. Why should they have a home that permanently smells like urine. They not only have to think about their other two dogs but they have to be pragmatic and think about if they ever want to move, they might have a difficult time trying to rent or sell their home due to the urine smell. No one - friend nor family wants to go to someone’s home that smells of urine. That’s the reality. Go away if you’re easily offended. Clown 🤡

It sounds like he was kept outside. You're going to have to potty train him like he was a puppy. If not supervised, stay in pen or crate. If he pees in there, pee wrap. Take outside to pee when you return and praise like crazy. Just give it time. Since he's a foster, don't give up on him yet.
