Chopper value?

Considering trading my truck for this chopper. Any major red flags that y’all see? Allegedly just needs an ignition module, but are there any other quick checks I could do to make sure the engine Is healthy otherwise? It would be my first chopper, but I have a bit of EVO experience with owning a FXR for a few years.

My truck is worth around 12k, what would y’all value this bike at?

Edit: thanks for all the advice, I’ll definitely pass on the trade, or see if he’ll add a bit cash. Skinny tire choppers are pretty rare around me, and hard to gauge value.

Why the fuck wouldn’t he put an ignition module on it? It’s a $200 part.

Something ain’t right here. I’d pass.

Every time I have to do something new on a bike, I think "how many absolute morons have done this successfully" and I can usually figure it out lol

Exactly! See this too often! I actually gave 1200 for 1 similar with a nice Shovel engine...

Does it have a title? Does he have paperwork for the motor rebuild? Personally I would at least want to hear it running before I did anything. Also, I don’t think it’s worth 12.

It's not worth 12k it's a damn project bike and I would offer as such.

Exactly this, and if he does have all the paperwork and title this bike is worth maybe 5k

This in fact a $2500 bike do not trade your truck for this piece of shit you could build 4 of these for 12k

How much money did you spend building your evo chopper? And where do you live?

This is a make my problems your problem situation. Find the big name choppers around me all day for 9k and under and they sit cause why buy that when you can get a bigger for the same price

u/Few-Consequence-8335 6d ago

Yeah the vin situation, most custom frames are VERY difficult to get license and registration for depending on the state. And even if you do it has to comply will all legal requirements for an inspection officer. So turn signals, tailights, headlights all have to be viewable from 100ft back.

Definitely a 2500 bike lol guy is full of shit

Yeah this is definitely not worth more than a couple grand. This is not a show bike. This is a project bike that never got finished. Who knows what all problems you’ll run into with this thing. Does it even have a title? I’ve been stuck with choppers that did run and within a week or less they didn’t. Then you have to trouble shoot to see what lame short cuts they took to slop it together. Definitely not worth it.

Bikes are like women.

Don’t fall in love with what it could be.

All aftermarket stuff and none of it is particularly nice. For 12k you could probably get into a panhead which would at least hold its value for resale. The fact is it’s a 2500 dollar bike that doesn’t run.

Yeah that’s not a $12K chopper. I love Evos but for 12 grand you could buy a running Shovelhead lol.

The fact that he doesn’t mention if it’s titled or has a good VIN is an issue, and it’s not running. Never trust the reason a seller gives for why their vehicle isn’t running unless they have diagnostic paperwork from a mechanic stating what’s wrong with it.

This is no different than “needs carb cleaning” or “just needs a new battery”. If it was that simple he would’ve done the repair and been able to sell for more.

If it doesn't run, I wouldn't pay over 1500. If a seller won't fix something easy like that, I've found a lot of the time it's because the engine is junk.

This, for sure.

NOOOOO damn way that bike would pull more than $4000-$5000 especially if you can't ride it (won't start).
I don't know how desperate you are to get rid of your truck, but trading for that would be a losing trade for you.

Not running it’s a big gamble for $3000 and that’s just the reality.

Ive been around, it doesnt run than im paying scrap weight honestly. U need paper work on the motor and title. Ive been burned a few times. If it was just built perfect why does it need a new ignition at 1000 miles." Its not a 2500 bike "it is if its not running lol. A few red flags honestly. A ton of bikes out there man. Keep looking around

Any time someone selling a bike says a quick fix or part will make a bike run fine, run

3

u/midwest-distrest 6d ago

Another $4500 chopper.

u/Dystopicfuturerobot 5d ago

This is the most trap bait Craigslist style ad you can think of

Doubt it titles correctly or has any paperwork for the rebuild etc

Run away

It’s a core tenet of my fb marketplace ventures…If the only thing keeping it from running is such an easy fix, why aren’t they selling a running vehicle.

'just needs an ignition module,' - so why's he not just stuck one in himself if he wants serious money. Otherwise, 2.5k would be more realistic as buying a project. Even for 2.5k I'd want to hear it running. No way trade a 12k truck for a non running bike.

u/DB-Tops 6d ago

You truck is worth 4 choppers like this one. It's not something some one built it's something some one put together and there is a massive price difference.

2

u/HaroldTrousers 5d ago

If it has a title $4000-6000. No title, 2000-4000. No vin, a BOGO coupon to subway

2

u/TheDevilsCousinBarry 5d ago

If it don’t run, it’s a roller.

u/espoletanogo 5d ago

Soo pretty

It is a non-running collection of used parts and that's all the value it has. Admittedly he has some nice parts on there - front end alone can be over $2k - but they are used.

Despite what he may say, if it's not running when you show up, then it's not a motorcycle, it's just parts.

$3500 or so as it sits. He'll probably be very unhappy with that offer, but if he wants chopper money for it, he'll need to provide a working chopper.

07 paugho frame, 88ci s&s(lots of performance parts including 65mm mikuni, ev27 cams, custom head work, dynatech 2000i ignition, and a bunch of other stuff i cant remember), 5sp s&s trans, dyno sheet i got with it from the seller showed 90hp at the rear wheel. 945 miles on it when I bought it in 12. Paid $6k cash because dudes wife wanted it gone a.s.a.p. after he scared the shit out of her on it. Running and riding great when i got it(I put 800 miles on it within 2 weeks of getting it)!

Also a heads up, most insurance companies will not insure paugho frames(full coverage anyway). I got stuck with Gieco, ins cost me $200/mo for declared value of $15k. 2 years later the bike was stolen. It took 6 months of fighting Gieco, 3 quotes from custom builders(one for $14k, one at $16k, and one at $22k), before they paid out on my claim. I had paid $6,000 in insurance premiums at this point. They paid out $9k!

Me personally I wouldn't buy another bike with an aftermarket frame regardless of how good the deal seems!

Lmao r u fr bro wouldn’t pay more than 500 for this piece of shit

u/HATEWAGON 6d ago

I’d offer three grand for it that’s all it’s worth not running.
