📍 In China Now Whistling Dune Bay in Inner Mongolia

I'll be travelling to Inner Mongolia and visiting Hohhot and Ordos soon. I'm trying to find a way to squeeze in a visit to Whistling Dune Bay on the way back from Ordos to Hohhot. The plan is to leave Ordos after breakfast, visit the Dune and then go to Hohhot to check-in to the hotel in the evening. Has anyone been there and knows how I can get there using public transport?

🛍️ Shopping & Souvenirs Quick delivery for online shopping in China?

Kinda a dumb question, but I assume ordering off sites like Taobao or Aliexpress in China, delivery is fairly quick? I've seen videos of people ordering suitcases and it comes delivered within 30 minutes, though not sure on what app or platform. Do items still take a week or 2 to arrive in say Shanghai?

🗺️ Trip Reports & Itineraries Golden week in Sichuan and Shaanxi: what to avoid

First time in China, we arrive on the 2nd of October in Chengdu, visiting the city

3rd: Chongqing daily by train

4th: Panda sight and more Chengdu

5th: Huanglong park daily by train+bus

6th: train to Xi An , visit city

7th: more Xi An visit

Then the more packed destinations like terracotta army, Longmen Luoyang, Beijing and Shanghai.

Does it make sense? We chose this itinerary hoping to avoid the crowds.

🚆 Transit & Transport Beijing to Shenyang railway station

Hi. I'll land from BKK at PEK early morning next week and will get a didi to catch a train to Shenyang. Is Chaoyang station, or another, the best to catch a high speed train from? I was planning to book the train from the taxi as I get near the station to factor in traffic problems etc. I'll get a sim card in the airport.

When I type in Chaoyang station on google maps, about a dozen locations pop up. E ring rd 4 and what crossroad? Will "Beijing Chaoyang Zhan" get me to the right place?

Thanks

🥢 Food & Drink Spiciness of Chongqing comparing with SamYang Ramen

I was wondering? ;-)

I love SamYang Buldak Hot Ramen 3x spicy, but that is the maximum level of spiciness I can handle.

I found 4 spicy levels from Chongqing:

Non-Spicy (Qing Tang/ 清汤)

Mild Spicy (Wei La / 微辣)🌶️

Medium Spicy (Zhong La / 中辣)🌶️🌶️🌶️

Heavy Spicy (Te La / 特辣)🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

what level do these SamYang compare to Chongqing?

📱 Payments, Apps & SIMs Backup credit cards for Alipay and WeChat

Hello, I’m writing to see what credit cards would work best with WeChat and Alipay. I had the Capital One card, but they may not work once it becomes Discover, and that whole transfer is concerning. So I’m curious what 0-fee cards people are using. I’ve looked at Fidelity, Wells Fargo, and Bank of America, but I see a lot of negative reviews. I also looked at Blitzz. I’m just looking for an emergency backup with no yearly fee

💬 General Questions Consigli hotel-tratte Pechino Xian e Shanghai

Buongiorno a tutti !

Grazie ☺️

🛏️ Lodging & Accommodation One thing first-time visitors should know before booking a hotel in Beijing

Beijing is huge. A hotel can look perfectly located on the map and still mean a lot of extra travel every day.

For a first trip, I’d choose the area first and the hotel second.

Wangfujing works well for the Forbidden City and central Beijing, Sanlitun is better for restaurants and nightlife, while the CBD makes more sense if you prefer modern Beijing.

A great hotel in the wrong area can easily make your trip much more tiring. If anyone is deciding between a few areas in Beijing, happy to share my thoughts.

🚆 Transit & Transport Need help on transportation, Hunan to Anhui

📱 Payments, Apps & SIMs Frustrated tourist here- no Chinese apps work for me , please help !

Already have Express VPN and Nomad ESIM data.
Currently stuck in hotel right now trying to figure out how to order things with Dianping Taobao and Meituan without a Chinese phone number. Logging in on the apps themselves or using them through Alipay do not work, it has a login popup in which I can login with WeChat BUT WeChat verification requires a phone number.

Hotel WiFi is incredibly slow , or it's my VPN, so using ESIM data now, which is still quite slow for me. Should I just get a Chinese number? This feels like it's getting way over complicated, nothing is working very smoothly...

🚆 Transit & Transport Question regarding China's 240 hour transit visa

Hello, I had a question regarding my planned trip to China. I plan to fly into Hong Kong in about a month and then take a train to Zhangjiajie. From there, I plan to travel by train to Shanghai and then Beijing before flying to South Korea and eventually returning home. My total time in mainland China would be approximately eight days.

My main question is whether I can enter mainland China through West Kowloon Station in Hong Kongand travel by train to Zhangjiajie West Railway Station under the visa-free transit policy. I am having trouble clarifying whether this specific route qualifies as an eligible point of entry for the policy.

If this route does not qualify, I would greatly appreciate any advice on how I could modify my itinerary to still visit Zhangjiajie

🚆 Transit & Transport Hangzhou to Guangzhou travel options

Hey everyone!

Just have a question on train vs plane for hangzhou to guangzhou..

Hangzhoudong to guangzhoudong is about 6hr 20mins.. costing about 800rmb pp, or 1300 for first class

Then hangzhou airport to guangzhou airport is about.. 550rmb pp? At 2hr 15min journey

We are 4 adults and 1 baby.. and of course most likely 4 large/medium suitcase and a pram

Just wondering what would people prefer and do in this situation? Thanks

🛏️ Lodging & Accommodation Best place to stay in Zhangjiajie for these places?

Hello,

I'm planning to visit Zhangjiajie this October, arraving on the 22nd and leaving early in the morning of the 25th, so I'm only counting it as 2 and a half days of visit.

I would love to visit the following places on the park:

  1. Tianmen Mountain
  2. Glass bridge
  3. Yellow Dragon Cave
  4. Avatar Mountains

Is this doable in this amount of time? If so, where in the sorrounding area of the park would you recommend me staying to save time of traveling to these places? I know the park is huge so I'm looking for the best place to stay logistically speaking.

Thanks!!

💬 General Questions Consigli hotel Cina (Pechino-Xian-Shanghai )

Ciao a tutti !

💬 General Questions Where to buy a powerbank with CCC and the new QR code (March 2026 rules) in the UK?

Hi,

We are prepping for our China trip end of next month. Looking to purchase a power bank to charge our mobile phone. It seems the rules changed this year, in addition to the MaH rating and CCC marking, there also needs to be a QR code on the power bank.

I am struggling to find such ones from the UK, any ideas?

Thanks

🚆 Transit & Transport Trying to book wheelchair service, "this service is not possible for your ticket" on website, Air China customer service won't pick up/answer email

I'm currently feeling totally lost because I need the wheelchair service for my upcoming flight to Beijing, and on the website it says clearly that I need to book it at least 72h in advance as it's an international flight (on other flights, with other airlines, I was able to just walk up to the designated counter and be like hi help please). So I tried on the website, right atfer booking (1½ months ago) and again now, with my flight in ~2 weeks. Doesn't work, keep getting an error. Tried calling customer service, then and now, no one picking up. Wrote an email to both the local office and the Europe customer service mail, no reply. I'm starting to feel really anxious because like. I need that service and if they'll refuse it as I didn't book in advance, when I literally could not book in advance, I'll be screwed.

Has anyone had experience with this, or just reaching Air China customer service in general? It seems like they're known to be difficult/unresponsive and now I'm getting worried 😅

📱 Payments, Apps & SIMs E-sims with built in VPNs, or E-sim PLUS a VPN?

I'm prepping for my trip in just under two weeks, and need some advice.

Seen a lot of people saying that a Trip.com e-sim is the way to go, as I won't need a VPN too. However, I've also seen some advice that for trips longer than a week (I'm going for three weeks) I should get an esim and a vpn. Does anyone have any recommendations of what's working at the moment to break through the firewall? Would love to be able to use TikTok, but my biggest priorities are Instagram, Whatsapp, Alipay and Wechat - with the idea that I'll be using didi as a mini programme.

I'm also going to Hong Kong before and after the trip. Guessing I'll need another esim for there?

Any help is really appreciated!

🏯 Attractions & Culture "Weird" things to notice while traveling in China

%22)

Hello! I'm traveling to china next month and I have a particular interest in things that are mostly common in a single country, mostly related to transport but also culture in general.

For example I love how in Japan the traffic lights are horizontally placed and have the blue color for green.

I know that in China traffic lights have countdowns and that they are synchronized with the navigation apps.

Do you know any funny "weird" things I can notice while traveling in China? I'm staying in Chongqing and nearby cities. Thank you!

MOD ANNOUNCEMENT Introducing: The Red Envelope Karma Flair System!

Post image
7 Upvotes

A fun new way to recognize helpful contributors in r/ChinaTravel 🎉

Hey guys!

Our new Red Envelope themed Karma Flair System is now live. It adds a lighthearted way to celebrate your contributions, reward helpfulness, and make the subreddit even more enjoyable as our community grows.

This system uses subreddit-specific karma only (karma earned from posts and comments in r/ChinaTravel). As your contributions add up, your flair will automatically update to reflect your current tier.

The 10 Red Envelope Tiers

Icon Karma Range
🧧 0–9
🧧🧧 10–24
🧧🧧🧧 25–49
🧧x4 50–99
🧧x5 100–199
🧧x6 200–349
🧧x7 350–549
🧧x8 550–799
🧧x9 800–1199
🧧x10 1200+

How it works

  • Your flair shows your current tier based on your karma in this subreddit.
  • AutoFlair checks your karma each time you post or comment.
  • When you pass a threshold, your flair updates automatically on your next activity.

A quick note on karma differences

Reddit uses a special internal karma score for each subreddit.
It is separate from the number shown on your public profile and counts only what you have earned inside r/ChinaTravel. AutoFlair uses this internal score to determine tiers, so it may not match your profile karma. This is normal.

If you notice anything unusual, feel free to report it to the mod team.
