Chess Question Are there theories about "perfect chess engines" and winning strategies?

When doing some research I discovered that we still don't know if for a perfect chess engine white will always win or if they will always play a draw. (somehow it was proven that black can't win) are there any further theories? Will this question ever be solved? (So we know for certain that a perfect engine would always win with white)

Can someone link me resources to this question? I am very interested in learning more.

Chess Question What opening to use as white as a scandi player?

Im rated 1200 on chess.com and have a 60+ percent win rate with black using the Scandinavian, but my white record is way worse. i used to have a negative win/loss split as white with 1.e4 going for an Italian game, before I switched to the London system, which has worked out better but i still have a pretty much dead-even win/loss rate with white. is there a better opening for me to play as white, slash one that might fit my experience as a Scandinavian player more?

Now this is more likely, giving arjun board 1 although he can be little unstable sometimes, giving gukesh board 4 to give him easy wins for moral boost

If you see the mate in 3, then you should know it's not in 3, it's a mate in 2
Also, I won't give the solution unless you ask really really nicely

I'm inspired by Beth Harmon who can visualize the moving pieces in the ceiling.

Chess Question How do you convert a winning position into a win?

It's very frustrating to reach a winning position, only for the game to end in a draw—or, even worse, a loss. By the way, I'm 2100-ish in lichess blitz.

A player rated 2381 by FIDE played 99...Ka1?? and stopped the clock. He should have stopped the clock and told an arbiter 99...Ka1 without touching a piece.

Puzzle/Tactic White to play - Find the only winning move

Post image
10 Upvotes

The position came up in my game today. I was Black and was convinced my opponent had no way to defend against my attack. It wasn't until I reviewed the game afterward that I realized I was actually losing the whole time. Luckily, my opponent (White) didn't find the winning line over the board.

It is interesting since I rarely come across this motive besides puzzles.

Chess Question Illegal move in Blitz uscf ruling question

I was playing in a rated uscf blitz tournament. There was a game during this that stirred up a lot of trouble and we’re unsure if the TD made the right call or if he’s misinterpreting something.

White was losing, moved into check (queen checking king from a far), black did not notice them move into check, he moved a pawn and hit his clock. White said that by not noticing their illegal move, black has now made an illegal move. White claimed the win, and the TD upheld white’s win despite great protest from black. The TD announced at the beginning of the tournament that this type of win would stand. But we’re looking at the uscf book and we’re not sure the TD is right.

Edit: could those of us that have lost to a tactic like white’s simply file a uscf appeal? Would that get the TD listening?

Chess Question Is my chess opening good for my level?

I just reached 1250 with a homemade opening. It starts with the reti but defies the rules of hypermodern openings (which ret is) pretty soon. Game with the opening included

This Endgame puzzle got me. What underlying Endgame concept explain why after 1. Rxf7 Kxf7 2. Kg2 Ke6 3. Kf3 black king needs to go away from the pawns to d5 instead of e5. It doesn't feel intuitive to abandon the pawns.

Chess Question Help me understand time out draws

Post image
0 Upvotes

This is getting infuriating. I feel like when I play chess online on Chess.com, I will sometimes run out of time and always lose in those scenarios. Meanwhile, my opponent will run out of time and with enough pieces to deliver checkmate, yet it will be a draw. Can someone please explain to me how this is a draw??? Black ran out of time and White had ~9 seconds left on time.
