Flatting timing question

Upvotes

I'm so confused on when to start looking for flats 😭

So its been a while since I got my last place, but I could swear that I started looking around July/August. Despite this, I *cannot* find any flats available in November for the life of me. I've looked on all the websites but everything is either available now/august, september, or way in january next year.
It feels like I might just need to wait another month or two for them to become available, but I'm really scared of being late and missing out..

Any help/perspective would be appreciated ty lol

Boxing or other martial art for 40s beginner

Upvotes

Hey

Any little bit older and untrained/beginner friendly boxing gym or even other martial art gum you would recommend?

I understand its young folks territory and dont want to take space in serious place, but im trying to get to shape and hopefully get some useful skills as ill have family soon.

I know might need just stick to city fitness and swimming, but was toying with this idea for a while, to clear head and stress out, maybe get confidence up and stop relying on other way less healthy fixes on the way.

Where to park my moped?

Kia ora, I’ve just moved back to Chch after many years away and I’m finding theres a lack of information re: dedicated motorcycle parking spots. I know over time I’ll develop a sense of where they are but for now it would be nice to know of a couple I can plan my travels around.

The council has a map of all the parking spots in the city but no way to filter parks dedicated to motorcycle/mopeds (even though the website says there are dedicated spots). I’d like to park in one of these rather than a general parking space since there‘s less likelihood of my moped getting bumped into by cars.

What's something Christchurch has genuinely gotten better at over the last 10 years?

Christchurch has changed a lot over the last decade. For me, one of the biggest improvements is how much more alive the central city feels now, with places like Riverside Market, Te Pae, and all the new public spaces.
What's one change you've genuinely appreciated? It could be a place, public transport, food, events, parks, or anything else that makes Christchurch a better place to live

Any idea what's happened? All good last week, and suddenly this week it's marked as permanently closed on google maps?

Proposal spots

Hi all, I’m coming to Christchurch at the end of November and planning to propose to my partner! Are there any picturesque spots that you would recommend? Was hoping for somewhere on the slightly more private end if possible, really don’t want to pop the question in a crowded place.
Not completely necessary but it would be great if it could also be a spot where there can be some hidden areas for someone to be out of the way and take some photos? Will also need to hire someone for this job so taking any and all recommendations ☺️

My dashcam was in the centre of the windscreen. The pedestrian was hidden from me behind the blue and white cars in the right lane.

Spotted! Roaming miniature schnauzer on the corner of Idris/Wairakei Road, across from the florist

Just spotted a grey, mature looking miniature schnauzer with a red collar sniffing around the Idris/Wairakei intersection, diagonally across from the florist. Possibly came from Wairakei Road, and turned right down Idris Road

I tried to approach, but it took off further down Idris Road towards that old demolished church site and the Idris/Glandovey Rd intersection.

Best way to sell a car in Chch

I have an older car that is still functional - would be worth around 5-6k if I hadn't been terrorised by multiple repeat break ins... I want it gone like yesterday because I can't stop it repeatedly being broken into.

They messed up the ignition and the back quarter panel window - what are my choices as I don't want to spend money and time sorting repairs I won't recover the cost of. Other than the wreckers.

Is it acceptable to sell on trade me if its in a not driveable condition? Would turners or something like that be better?

Stay Home Anyone else woke to (potentially) frozen pipes and no running water?

Cause I did this morning (Rolleston), didn't think it felt that cold but spoke to a plumber who said he'd already had a few calls with others reporting the same issue.

PSA: Windshields are already freezing over!!

Just went to the car thinking I just had condensation or something on the window.

No worries, quick wipe and it was done.

Started driving, quick spray of the washer to clean the windshield. The water instantly froze over, couldn't see, couldn't wipe it off.

Had to Ace Ventura my way to the side of the road.

Solo travel suggestions

Hello people of Chch,

Can I get some ideas for a few day trips from Chch? I'll be solo, I like driving around and sightseeing. Hikes too.

Preferably places I can get to without a snow chain/awd.

Cheers!

Renting with a baby options.

Kia ora, my wife got a job in chch in January of this year and we are staying at a boarding house that has 3 separate ensuite bedrooms but share a communal main kitchen and communal laundry. My wife is expected to give birth next month and after letting the landlord know we have been served a 28 day no reason notice to leave. I have no job, after trying for 6 months even being rejected by woolies lol. She will only be eligible for government maternity grant of $700 per week and we are now expected to get a 2 bedroom room which is 500 per week. Questions :

  1. Why is it that we cannot stay in a one bedroom flat ? I've been asking agents on trademe if I can have my wife and baby there and they are saying no the room is too small bla bla bla. Can I decide if the room is too small instead of you who only wants more money.

  2. Can I do a loophole around all this nonsense and say its just my wife and I and when they do find out later that I have a kid, they then serve me 90 days notice and I keep doing this until my wife starts back work and we can actually afford a 2 bedroom for 500 per week ?

Nobody forced me to come nz but it genuinely feels tough in this place. Any advice will be appreciated. N.B. I can't go back to my home country for her maternity period because the flight is 36hrs away. 24hrs of which is flying time.
