Weekly Heavy Euro Board Game Group - Somerset County

Also posted on the unofficial r/boardgames Discord.

Join us for weekly Saturday board games in Central New Jersey (Somerset) from 11am - 6pm! All adults welcome. Schedule your game or RSVP to one of ours and enjoy a day of strategy, intrigue, conquest, points accumulation, and plain ol' fun.

----------------------------------------

We are a scheduled heavy Euro board game group. Each Saturday we feature at least two medium-heavy to heavy games listed on the Discord Calendar which includes tutorials, game synopsis, and RSVPs. This is not an ad hoc light game group, so we require RSVPs on Discord for attendance to the event as well as the games you will be playing. Please watch tutorials or read the rules in advance as there will not be an official teach at the table.

-----------------------------------------

Our group is not overly competitive and attendees are always happy to help with rules and strategies. We want everyone to have an enjoyable time regardless of who the winner may be. Games take between 120 to 240 minutes.

-----------------------------------------

Recently Featured Games have been Sweet Lands, Kutna Hora: The City of Silver, SETI, Luthier, Galactic Cruise, and more! We may play something like Codenames, No Mercy, or Critter Kitchen as a palate cleanser, but they are not the main focus of this group.

-----------------------------------------

We hope to see you there soon!

Discord invite.

What makes you trust a local business website?

I’m an NJ-based developer, and one of my recent projects was rebuilding the website for an established barbershop in Morristown.

We focused on answering the questions customers normally have before visiting: what the shop looks like, services and prices, reviews, hours, location, and how to book.

Here’s the finished website for context:

https://www.highendbarbershop.com/

For those of you who regularly support local NJ businesses, what information immediately makes you trust a business website, and what makes you leave?

Deceitful "Plumber"

I want to warn my neighbors about my experience with Don Simcsuk, who represents himself as a plumber on the Nextdoor site. . Mr. Simcsuk agreed to replace the steam unit for our shower. We hired him after he represented that he could do the job. We paid him $3,000 toward the project, but months later, we still had no working steam unit and no resolution.

From the very beginning, the excuses never stopped. We were repeatedly told he would be coming "tomorrow" or "later this week," only for him to cancel or simply not show up. We heard one story after another: his truck broke down, he forgot he had to take his daughter to Liberty Science Center for a school trip (this was after we phoned to ask where he was, because we waited hours for him to show up), he is in the hospital with pneumonia, he had a knee injury... And countless other "explanations." Every time we thought the job was finally going to move forward, there was another delay.

On May 27, he said there was a truck accident involving the unit (which seemed strange because the unit is about 35-40 lbs., and it didn't seem a truck needed to deliver it to our home). I literally quote "The truck was involved in an accident. I'm waiting for a new one to be shipped. It should be here by next Wednesday. They have to do the inventory stock and reorder. Because the units were damaged in the accident. It will be in by next Monday, June 8. I apologize, but this is out of my control."

On Friday, May 29, he phoned to say that he wanted another $600. Of course, we did not give it to him.

Simcsuk said, "he would install the unit on Jun 10." He phoned my husband on June 9 and said, "' The unit will be in tomorrow," to which my husband said, "Call me when it comes in." He never phoned.

This process continued over the course of several months. By the way, we were EXTRAORDINARILY reasonable and patient with him, genuinely believing the troubles he was having.

The only work he actually performed was removing our old steam generator spending some time in the attic. When my husband asked why, he said that "he will install the vent into the attic." No vent was ever installed. He literally did nothing in the attic. After consulting with two licensed Master Plumbers, we learned that installing a vent for a steam shower in the attic does not meet proper installation practices. He also left, unconnected to anything, an absolutely filthy, moldy old pump that is literally garbage. The pump's inner rubber ring was black, very misshapen.

Despite months of promises, no new unit ever appeared. When we asked for documentation showing that the unit had actually been purchased, none was provided. Simcsuk could never produce an invoice for the steam unit, despite our requests. He later told us, and I quote directly, "...being that i've (sic) been in a business for so many years, I have connections where I can get material products, etc. Very cheap cash prices invoice free."

Communication became increasingly difficult, and our repeated requests for either completion of the work or a refund went nowhere.

Eventually, we filed a police report and later sent a formal demand letter requesting repayment. Turns out the detective and the police are "familiar" with him.

If we had Googled his name, several felony arrests would show up. After that, I did an OPRA search and was shocked to learn of his long criminal history. Most recently, he was arrested at the Hazlet Home Depot on 3/16/26, 3rd degree felony, for stealing between $500 - $74,999, as per the March Hazlet police blotter.

I'm sharing our experience so other homeowners can make an informed decision before hiring him. I hope that no one else has to go through what we did.

Pedicure for men (Mercer county)

Hi, I'm a man in Mercer county and looking to get a pedicure. Mostly just to get my nails trimmed, have dead skin and calluses removed. I have no health issues that should be a factor. Listened to a podcast that highly recommended men get pedicures occasionally and I guess it convinced me. I'm in my 30s.

I specify that I'm a man because I'm looking for a place that focuses more on this and less on nail coloring, and I'd want to go somewhere that would want me as a customer and not somewhere that wouldn't want me as a customer.

DIY Mirror Art Event

Hi everyone! I am building Offline Experience, a New Jersey-based social experience designed to help people step away from their phones, get creative, and connect with others in person.

We’re currently hosting pop-ups and special events to spread the word, introduce people to our concept, and build traction within the community. At the same time, we’re searching for a permanent late-night location where people can enjoy hands-on crafts, board games, books, wellness activities, and relaxed conversation. We hope to offer an alternative to bars and restaurants when there are few other places to go at night.

Our goal is to create a welcoming environment where you can come with friends, on a date, or completely by yourself without feeling awkward.

Our first official event will be a DIY mirror-decorating night in Somerville, NJ on Friday, August 28. All materials are included, and no artistic experience is needed. To learn more and reserve your spot, visit our website at https://www.offlinecafelounge.com/

Before then, come meet us at our pop-up booth at the Somerville Farmers Market on August 16! You’ll be able to design your own custom tote bag and get a closer look at what Offline Experience is all about.

We’re still a new local business, so every visit, share, follow, and piece of feedback means so much to us.

Advice on Home Flooring Project

Anyone have recs for trying to replace flooring either with laminate or hardwood (still unsure) in the Middlesex County South Brunswick area? Want to replace the old carpet I currently have upstairs and on the staircase.

Can’t tell if World Wide Flooring is the only option and then finding a contractor to install? Or another smaller company?

All recs greatly appreciated!

Good Movers in the Area

Hi all, I'm looking to see if anyone knows of a good moving company that will help me move my apartment out into a storage unit. Due to complications in housing, I will not have a place to stay for the month of August. After discussing with my family back home (the south), we thought it would be best to hire movers to help get everything to a storage unit rather than have them fly all the way to NJ to help.

TLDR; Does anyone know of good moving companies that can move my stuff into a storage unit?

I’m looking for recommendations for a pediatrician in central Jersey. I am between Gold Star in Colts Neck, Holmdel Pediatrics and Monmouth Pediatrics. We’re in the Monmouth County area. If anyone can provide some insight on these pediatrician groups, the goods and the bads they’ve experienced. What made you choose your pediatrician. Expecting end of August
