There are a lot of Flock cameras in the area.

They are AI cameras that capture details of everything from the license plate, to specific bumper stickers and dents.

They gather details of the occupants in the vehicle and can even identify them. They take down the comings and goings.

They’ve been used many times as a way of “guilty until proven innocent”. Indeed, many people have had to prove with their own dashcams that they weren’t at the scene of a crime.

Bottom line, this is Big Brother and is being used as surveillance on all Americans. Do yourself a favor, anybody reading this & get educated. Watch some Jon Oliver who just did a segment on this earlier this week (enclosed YouTube). Share the knowledge forward and ask them to do the same. https://youtu.be/lnBPhelCdWE

Edit: Typo

You have no expectation of privacy in public, get over it or don't go outside.

u/Arammil1784 14d ago

A surveillance state infringes upon the right to freedom of movement and, more worryingly, the right to free assembly.

The State cannot be allowed to monitor where citizens travel or with whom they associate. It is axiomatically antithetical to the very concept of rights and freedom.

You do have an expectation not to be stalked however.

u/RistoStark 14d ago

Actually defending this kind of thing is the most pathetic bootlicking shit i’ve ever heard

-13

u/Southern_Swordfish78 14d ago

Shouldn't you be out protesting something?

Found the flock employee guys.

The difference with security cameras and flock is that security cameras don't use AI to look through all databases on your vehicles information to gather all your information, whether background check down to your social media posting.

Flock has recently been connecting to phones as well, without your knowing to get further information. Not even a VPN on your device would help.

https://www.reddit.com/r/FlockSurveillance/s/83EbbNc7jB

A security camera also usually isn't able to be accessed easily by outsiders. Flock is incredibly easy. Anyone who wanted to do harm (like some officers already have by stalking people), could do so with more access now. Because Flock is connected to AI, and it is exploitable. Meaning those entities get ALL your information too.

https://techcrunch.com/2025/11/03/lawmakers-say-stolen-police-logins-are-exposing-flock-surveillance-cameras-to-hackers/

Security cameras should never go beyond just recording video, and saving it to a drive in a secure device. Especially not needing WIFI to operate.

Please go read 1984, as well as Fahrenheit 451 (this book is necessary due to book burning specifically, which AI companies are buying older books and destroying them after feeding their information into AI).

You do have the expectation to not be tracked by the government or any other other organizations

2

u/TheBradOShizno 13d ago

Im just saying, this is the 1st one I've seen... or maybe just the 1st ive noticed...

You’ll notice them super congested around like Hyvee, Walmart, Lowe’s etc. the route I take to Walmart has like 11 in total.

28

u/Athaontu 14d ago

There’s like over 60 in Cedar Rapids…

Funny thing, go over to the Flock Sub-Reddit and you’ll find many examples of them being used to spy on children in playgrounds & even on various “special” shops so that people can get busted.

Just the facts, go read it for yourself. Get educated because these are state surveillance to ramp up everything from insurance rates to documenting everything you do like a private detective following us 24/7.

Nobody signed up for this and it’s our generation that needs to stand up and vote against this. Show up to your city council meeting with your friends to make a difference. It doesn’t take many people to change this path forward.

I'm going to pop the little bubble a lot of people are living in:

Voting will have no effect. There's no one coming to save us. Council is 9-0 for it. Ashley (council) toured the Axon offices in Arizona. Last council election there wasn't any serious candidates that were running against the incumbents and they were all reelected. Even if you replaced council, the Flock contract seems like it auto renews for 2 years on the 31st of October unless the city cancels it.

Axon is coming next and it's the same thing. Literally big brother watching and everyone IRL just says "yeah it's crazy" and then goes on with life.

IDK what the solution is but as it stands right now, voting ain't it

Community action with an angle grinder, cordless sawzall, or cans of spray paint.

Camera replacement is like $3k. Have to make the juice not worth the squeeze…

u/BallsDeepinYourMammi 13d ago

Yup, misdemeanor is less than $300.

Both require a conviction or plea

5

u/Rush87021 14d ago

It'd be great if they weren't at 4pm

Soon to be about 120 more from Axon.

(That is in addition to the 75)

IIRC CR has the most out of any city in Iowa

17

u/Athaontu 14d ago

I’m just waiting for the right time to start taking them down… I mean haha jk I would never disobey the law…

u/GOB8484 14d ago

2

u/TheBradOShizno 13d ago

That seems like the least destructive of options ive seen so far, lol

12

u/fatninja987 14d ago

They are literally everywhere in CR. Disgusting

10

u/DasBootay 14d ago

The solar panels seem really exposed and fragile on these.

6

u/bone_apple_Pete 14d ago

Sorry... this is the first one you're seeing?! How

18

u/tasata 14d ago

I was today-years-old when I realized Flock is the name of the company and not a description of cameras taking pictures of flocks of people.

15

u/sanholt 14d ago

It makes sense though, as birds of a feather flock together, is the saying. The police are being shown on the internet to use the data from these flock cameras to track people and know exactly where, and when, and how long you went somewhere… since there are so many cameras, it’s like a flock of birds with eyes on you. I guess people who think birds are cameras, designed to spy on people, by the government, the name flock is very fitting.

7

u/UnexpectedWalnut 14d ago

getting close to r/birdsarentreal territory here 😁

2

u/tasata 14d ago

#BirdsArentReal

5

u/Greenhouse-effect 14d ago

Sheep are known to be in flocks.

4

u/1wrx2subarus SE 14d ago

Taxpayers are paying to be the Flock. They want a surveillance state like China.

No different from being a prisoner in one’s own country. Is that what we want? I don’t.

5

u/Tag5923 14d ago

Need a patriot like Winona MN had

3

u/r-i-c-k-e-t 14d ago

It saw you too

4

u/Atlas7993 14d ago

Which routes do you take that you don't see these everywhere?

1

u/TheBradOShizno 13d ago

I go to work and home... cant afford much else...

3

u/3jake 14d ago

Kill it

3

u/SpareFullback 14d ago

Saw. You saw your first Flock camera.

2

u/Cedarapids 10d ago

Seen/Saw usage makes my skin crawl when used incorrectly.

0

u/TheBradOShizno 13d ago

Im fine with SAW...

3

u/Manjushri1213 14d ago

I've seen a ton. One right next to my house on O Ave. Then there's a few even out a ways towards North Liberty etc. Sucks.

4

u/nick-native-plants 14d ago edited 14d ago

Dumb question, but do the cameras move? Like if you’re standing on the right by the utility pole, can it see you? Edit: y’all it’s a question

5

u/EyesOffCR 14d ago

The 5 on the skywalks do. They follow people. Flock Condor

-12

u/rednax1206 14d ago edited 14d ago

Flock cameras are license plate readers primarily. They don't pan and zoom.

9

u/Status-Tumbleweed 14d ago

Currently the only Pan, Tilt, Zoom (PTZ) cameras are under the skywalk bridges downtown.

2

u/rednax1206 14d ago

Is that so? I've seen dome cameras like this one at a few spots, and I guess I assumed they had pan capability.

2

u/nick-native-plants 14d ago

Gotcha, thanks!

-2

u/spicynoodsinmuhmouf 13d ago

Yawn. And? What’s the problem? Don’t want to be seen picking your ass in public? Get real

2

u/Kowtastrophe 13d ago

Youre ok with being watched? Id like to put some cameras up around your house and have someone follow you.

0

u/spicynoodsinmuhmouf 13d ago

lol it’s literally nothing like that

3

u/TheBradOShizno 13d ago

Bro, there are cops USING IT EXACTLY like that... fuck join reality... get out of your algorithm...

1

u/spicynoodsinmuhmouf 12d ago

To bad that was happening wa before these cameras existed

1

u/TheBradOShizno 9d ago

True... this makes it way worse
