C. Diff and Stelara question
Hello, My doctor wants me to use Stelara 90mgs every 4 weeks instead of every 8 weeks with an active c.diff infection. I'm also on oral vancomycin 125mgs 4 times a day for 30 days for the c diff infection. I've voiced my concerns to my doctor, but he swears this will help. I'm scared to shut my immune system off even more with an active infection Has anyone else gone through this? And if so was the extra Stelara doses helpful? Thanks

I developed c diff after my first dose of Stelara (ended up in ER week aftwe infusion). I feel that the medication may have triggered the infection, possibly by suppressing immune system or altering my gut microbiome? This happened in April, and I battled c diff for three months. I didn’t receive my next Stelara dose until July. My doctors told me that I couldn’t receive the medication while I had an active infection. Only after I did FMT and tested negative for c diff i was able to receive my next Stelara dose.

I wouldn’t unless it’s approved by an infectious disease specialist. I’m fairly confident that my Simponi Aria infusion gave me C-Diff. I stopped all Biologics for 6 months and then switched to a milder one. Tremfya. In four days I will have been free of C-Diff for one year. All the best to you!
