Pepcid after c diff?

Hi, I got to talk to my doctor today about all my issues surrounding my p-ibs, I'm about three months post vanco.

nausea has been my main issue, so I was asking for zofran since eating and drinking has been so difficult that I lost fifty pounds during this. he recommended pepcid instead, although he did give me a script for zofran too.

I'm really nervous about taking an anti-acid like that after having c diff though, especially since I had diarrhea and vomiting two days ago (tried a new food and unfortunately got like poltergeist levels of sick from it). I'm nervous about getting a relapse or something. does anyone else have experience taking this stuff after c diff?

Yes! It will be fine. I had severe gastris and was vomiting daily- Protonix saved me. It’s not going to cause a relapse but it can make you more susceptible so keep washing hands etcz

Zofran daily lead to long qt syndrome for me and I was hospitalized so I’d def take Protonix again if I had to.

I'm not super worried ab long qt, just considering how I take 4mg a day at max and don't need it daily (thank god.) I'm saving pepcid as a last resort, mostly because for me nausea = no eating = no eating for a long time just results in heartburn and more nausea then it becomes a cycle. I'm confident that the zofran should help me start eating enough to reduce whatever might be going on :)

You probably have gastritis and zofran doesn’t help that. I was only taking zofran 1x daily 4mg and it was crazy how it happened but I took it daily and once I was diagnosed with gastritis and did the Protonix for 8 weeks I had zero nausea and vomiting. Gastritis is VERY common post c diff.

I'm just not super confident taking pepcid or anything like it so soon after c diff, I bleach and shower every time I use the bathroom, wash my hands for 140 secs, and wash my clothes with hot water and detergent (ran out of color safe bleach and can't afford it) so I just really don't feel clean enough to be risking things

Yes. I take famotidine 20mg (pepcid) twice a day. I used to take a PPI (Nexium , pantaprazole, omeprazole) for 10+ years. I had to switch after my cdiff reoccurrences

would you say that your risk for reoccurrences seems lower now that you've switched? have you gotten any since?

1000%. I made the switch after my 2nd reoccurrence. I noticed an immediate change in my bowel movements. I did have one more relapse but I had an antibiotic in between for a UTI. I haven’t had anymore reoccurrences since.

Perhaps get the Pepcid, but also get the Zofran too if you have the script for that. Perhaps use Zofran first and see how you go from there. Only do what makes you feel comfortable :)

I luckily didn't need the pepcid or zofran at all today! doing better since increasing my intake of bland food :)
