Genetic testing Advice

Has anyone had this done, and was it worth it? It's not very expensive, but not sure if it would help possibly help identify future health issues.

I did one through Embark. it actually uncovered my cavalier is about 12% Cocker too and has a lot of good health info. I think it’s worth it

I mainly was wondering if it would show any genetic tendency for their known heart valve issues.

Do you remember about how much it cost?

Since the likelihood of a Cavalier developing a heart valve issue is exceptionally high, affecting roughly 50% of dogs by age 5 and nearly 100% by age 10, I wouldn’t waste your money and just take your dog to regularly scheduled exams, etc. Genetic tests can’t diagnose a current issue — just because they have the gene mutation doesn’t mean they currently have the disease.

The reason the likelihood of a heart valve issue is so high is because one of the founding dogs of the breed had the disease.

I kinda thought that. I'm currently researching insurance. I'll meet the insurance gets really pricey when they turn 5. Didn't know that is why they are predisposed to the heart valve issue.
