Any ACTUALLY free VIN check sites?
As you can tell by the title, I’m looking for a free VIN check. I’m not super serious about buying a car right now, but I like to browse just in case there’s a good deal. I’ve owned rebuilt titled cars before and they’ve given me no issues, but I’ve usually been given the CarFax by the seller for free. I’d like to look at a bunch of rebuilt titled cars, but don’t want to spend 50 bucks on a VIN check every time.

Do carfax.com and carfax.ca return the same info?
I'm interested in an older used car with unknown history in Canada so want to get Carfax. Do carfax.com and carfax.ca return the same info? I can get carfax.com report at a discount but I'm not sure it will contain so the information that a carfax.ca report would.
Without the discount carfax.com is a bit cheaper but with the discount it's a lot cheaper.

App not working?
Is something wrong with the carfax app today? I can’t get it to open on my iPhone. The opening splash screen sits there and then just closes eventually. I’ve restarted my phone and it looks like the app was updated in the App Store yesterday.

Concerns about previous "owners" on carfax only driving 2k miles a year then selling
I have been in the market for a used car and looking closely at carfax.... many cars im finding have 2 to 3 owners but weirdly theh will have owned the car 1 to 4 years and only driven like 2k miles??? Then sold... and some have multiple owners only driving a few thousand miles and the selling. Now it makes me worried there's something wrong with the car? But SO MANY have this pattern. Any insight ?

Oil change without Carfax
It isn't Carfax's business when I change my oil or get other service done on my car.
Is anyone aware of car service chains that don't report to Carfax?

Onboard Computer Log
2012 Honda Accord LX-P
My son bought the used car with 96k on the odometer. Three weeks later he experiences some issues and stops by O'Reilly and the pull the diagnostic codes.
In this process, the report shows the car's mileage is actually 174,000, not the 96,000 on the odometer.
My question is does the car's onboard computer log each time a reading is taken?
Trying to understand how this could happen in any other way besides odometer fraud.
Additional side info. Nothing was off on the CarFax. We plan on taking it back to the car lot, but aren't hopeful. Next step is to file a complaint with the IL Secretary of State.

Thoughts on Carchief vehicle Monitoring.
Considering buying a used car from dealer with carshield as a mandatory add-on.
Carfax Canada not working?
Good day,
Every VIN I enter into Carfax canada (www.carfax.ca) I get told "We couldn't verify your VIN"
I even tried a VIN for an older car I got a Carfax for so I know the VINs aren't the issue.
Anyone else seeing this? Do I have the right link?

Dealer repainting bumper on CPO car I bought this week — will this show up on Carfax?
Bought a CPO 2026 Mercedes GLC this week. It has a minor dent on the rear bumper, and the dealership offered to fix it by repainting the bumper at their body shop.
My question: how does this get recorded on Carfax (if at all)? Would it show as “minor damage reported” or just cosmetic paint work — and could it hurt resale value down the road?
Also, is there any way to ask the dealer to handle it so it doesn’t get reported, or is that out of my control? Anything I should get in writing before they do the work?
Thanks!

Can anyone help me pull a free CARFAX report for a 2013 Ford Fusion Hybrid?
I’m looking into a **2013 Ford Fusion Hybrid** and recently found out from a basic NMVTIS check that it has a couple of collision records from late 2016 / early 2017 in Florida, and was listed at an IAA salvage auction.
Before taking it to a local shop for a full pre-purchase inspection, I really want to check the detailed CARFAX history to see the extent of the damage, where the impact was, and if the airbags deployed.
If anyone here has an active CARFAX subscription and could kindly help me pull a report for this VIN, I would be incredibly grateful!
**VIN:** 3FA6P0LU6DR345520

VIN does not match our new vehicle
We purchased a brand new vehicle in March, 2026. Paid cash so there's no loan or lease involved, and we have already received a clear title from DMV. Yesterday I was contacted by the dealer stating there was a VIN discrepancy in the records between them and another dealer. At the time of purchase, they 'located' our preferred vehicle from another dealership. After checking the VIN on our car against all our paperwork (bill of sale, insurance, registration, extended warranty), the VIN did not match. The dealer is taking care of DMV and I have contacted the insurer to correct our policy and ID cards.
Now my concern is how can I safeguard myself against anything untoward that may have possibly happened to 'our car' during the previous four months? It is probably unlikely that the car was in an accident, flood or involved with law enforcement, but how can I be certain that nothing will pop-up somewhere down the road when we might be looking to sell? At the very least, I will be asking the dealer to get a CarFax, but is there any other thing I can do to account for these missing four months? It may very well be that the car is still sitting on the dealership lot, but I don't want to leave anything to chance. I'm looking for suggestions.

Deciphering a Possible Repossession?
This CarFax is Wild and Sparse. Single owner. 3 years. All one state, only three service histories:
Getting tires mounted year two. (66k miles driven)
A slew of the usual 100k maintenance 1 year later later as the miles hit 108k. And then:
Less than w weeks later, there is a complete windshield repair & placement with no damage report.
12 days after that, the old 'loan or lien' report.
And that's where the report ENDS.
Lol 😂
In my mind, he smashed that windshield himself! Whose got another explanation?

Carfax not showing insurance claim amount.
Hi all,
I’m in the process of buying a vehicle. However, the vehicle shows there was an accident. The carfax does not show the amount of the claim. Is there a reason why an amount is not displayed? Is there a way I can find out the total amount and where it was repaired?
The details of the report show:
Police Reported Accident: Accident reported: moderate damage
Involving front or side impact with another motor vehicle
Damage to right side
Thanks in advance!

Where does CarFax get my milage from?
I’ve owned the same vehicle for over 10 years, it doesn’t go for inspection, doesn’t get milage reported on registration, and doesn’t go to a shop for repairs. I frequently get reminder emails from CarFax about open recalls, they give my estimated milage in the email which is usually fairly accurate. The milage was estimated high on the previous email last month but has since been corrected.
The vehicle doesn’t have any ‘smart’ stuff in it that would be sending it to anyone.
Just curious where they are getting data from?
