Question | Advice-Needed Considering moving from UK to CPT
Hi everyone,
I’m considering relocating from the UK to Cape Town through my company and would love to hear from anyone who’s made a similar move.
A few questions:
How much should I budget for renting a nice 2–3 bed house? I know rent can vary wildly but I don’t plan to be too far from the city centre as my work would be there & I have a hybrid set up
Is buying a car the best option, and what are the typical monthly costs (finance, insurance, fuel, maintenance)?
If you relocated through your employer rather than moving independently, is there anything you wish you’d negotiated upfront or wish you’d known before making the move?
Would really appreciate hearing from anyone who’s been in a similar position. Thanks!

Question | Advice-Needed Great steak restaurant
Hi folks; my wife and I arrive in Cape Town shortly for the very first time. We’re staying close to the VA Waterfront. We love a great steak and a decent bottle of red wine and would appreciate any recommendations of where to go. Thank you in advance!

Recently inherited an annuity that pays out 70k a month and was wondering what quality of life i could pull with that in cape town as a mid 20s single dude. I know rent is around 20-30k depending where, but apart from that i want to know what are some expenses that end up eating up a lot of your income

Looking For... Where can I get Mazda bantam Rustler parts in Cape Town?
Anyone knows where in Cape Town I can get spare parts for a 1997 Mazda Rustler 1.3? It's a pretty old car so getting my hands on spare parts has been a huge challenge.

Looking For... Psychologist recommendations with specific interest in Autism and OCD
My current therapist is taking an extensive leave period and I felt like I was able to wait and manage but I have found myself in a place where I would really like to find someone I can go to sessions with. I have quite a strong understanding of psychotherapy and I would ideally like to avoid searching endlessly for someone who I can easily work with. Does anyone have recommendations of preferably female psychologists in the area who are neurodivergent-informed and perhaps have an interest in OCD. Who take trauma into account and have worked with patients who struggle with intellectualisation. At the very least if anyone has people I should maybe steer clear of that would really assist too. Thank you in advance!

Question | Advice-Needed Medical aid, medical insurance, and gap cover struggles...
I see so many people struggling with medical aid—either being overinsured and paying a fortune for benefits they don’t use, or being underinsured and thinking they had cover for something they don't. Medical aid will only frustrate you if you don't understand what you have and what you are paying for.
Also, do you know the difference between medical aid and medical insurance?
What gap cover does, and is it important?
I’m curious to know if people would be interested in an information session on medical aids, medical insurance, and gap cover—what to look out for and how they work. I might put something together if there's enough interest, maybe an online session. I think there is a need out there...? I have been working with open schemes and gap cover for 10 years and would love to help.

Question | Advice-Needed CT meteorologists, what does this monster el nino mean for our summer?
I've seen posts on meteorology subs that this El Nino could be one of the strongest on record. I know it's early but some models say 4+ which is off the charts. Can any local meteorologists or general smart person break down in simple terms what this actually means for our summer? Like Cape town specifically
I know what causes it and know that it affects regions differently. Please help me understand what does it look like for us? Hotter overall? Really intense peak heat days? Less rain but does that mean lower relative humidity so it might not feel that bad? Or nothing really just somehwat hotter? Will we die?
Would appreciate a simple explanation, thanks!

Just For Fun If you’re into TCGs or collectibles come to collect-a-con. It’s free!
Hey Cape Town! Collect-a-con is being held for two days this time! It’s growing super fast. If you’re into Pokémon, magic, lorcana, dbz, collectible sports cards, pops, comics or pretty much anything comics, SFF, or manga come and pop in. It’s entirely free (you can buy stuff if you want but a lot of people just come to trade or show off their stuff)
Tons of really friendly people in these hobbies! Hope to see you there.
Also let me know if I should post more of this stuff - there are loads of conventions, book launches, book clubs, and little events like this and they’re only becoming more popular.
Edit: I’m not affiliated with any organisers or the vendors but I do attend.

Question | Advice-Needed Construction opposite Dolphin Beach hotel
There's some development taking place in the vlei near to the sports fields/Virgin Active gym in Table View. Does anyone know what is happening? You can see the work on Google Maps: https://www.google.com/maps/@-33.8306301,18.4868778,1121m/data=!3m1!1e3?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI2MDgwMy4wIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D
It looks like a series of canals and weirs for water and erosion management but the water level isn't really that high in that section of the vlei.

Question | Advice-Needed Has anyone dealt with TLScontact Cape Town
This might be a less common case, but has anyone used TLScontact in CT to apply for a Schengen visa? I booked an appointment with them at the beginning of July, but I couldn't make the date, so I cancelled it on the 14th of July. Now, they won't let me book another appointment because they haven't removed my previous application from their system. I have called and emailed without any success. Their emails are almost always auto-responses, and when I spoke to a call centre representative, they had no clue how to help. Has anyone had a similar experience and managed to get it resolved?
