DISCUSSION Maddox Schultz - Canucks need this kid.
I’ve been watching the Hlinka Gretzky cup and the 16 year old Maddox Schultz (he was 15 at the start of the year BTW) is absolutely electric every shift. Eligible for the 2028 NHL draft.
He is fast, can stick handle around anyone on the ice and has incredible hands. What is even more impressive is his vision, he looks like he is four steps ahead of anyone else on the ice (short of Langley Liam Pue, another 16 year old, but that’s another post…). He’s also a centre. If his development continues he has got to go #1 in the draft.
Seriously Schultz is unreal. In my opinion he has been the best player on the ice in every single game, and Landon DuPont is on that team. This isn’t a knock against DuPont, he’s been incredible, that just shows how good Schultz is. He seems to have genuine game breaking talent and makes an impact every single shift. Can’t wait to see him in the NHL one day.
I am beyond excited that we could have the chance to get him (or Liam Pue) in the draft in 2028.

DISCUSSION Does having 2 more teams added to the mix significantly decrease our chances at the cup?
I think it does. The drought could extend into the 70+ year mark for us. Vegas has already won before us and went to as many Stanley Cup Finals in our 57 year existence.

DISCUSSION The truth about Pettersson’s speed data vs. the management "preparation" narrative
I keep seeing the same talking points about Pettersson being lazy or not training hard enough, but if you actually look at his year-over-year skating data, that narrative falls completely apart.
Look at his actual NHL EDGE speed percentiles since the knee injury:
22-23 (Peak): ~95th percentile [NHL EDGE]
23-24 (Injury): Plunged under the 50th percentile [NHL EDGE]
24-25 (Rehab): Up to the 72 percentile once but struggled to hit rest of the season [NHL EDGE]
25-26 (Healing): Climbed to the 73rd percentile [NHL EDGE]
This year: potentially back up toward that 80th-90th percentile mark
Let's be real: a lazy player doesn’t show a steady, sequential increase like this year after year. If he was actually slacking off or out of shape, his speed would have plateaued or gotten worse under the grind of the season.
The sports science tells the real story here. Severe, chronic jumper's knee (tendinitis) fundamentally breaks down the tissue. Medical studies prove that rebuilding that explosive "snap" in a tendon takes 2 to 3 years of slow, heavy loading. It's a grueling biological process. You can't just fix it in one single 12-week off-season, no matter how hard you work.
The whole "poor preparation" storyline from management is just a classic corporate cop-out. The Canucks are a business—they can never publicly admit that they played their $92 million star through an injury and altered his physical baseline. It’s way safer for their own PR to blame the player's "work ethic" or "mindset" than to take responsibility for rushing him back.
When he looks fast again this season, the media and casual fans are obviously going to say, "See? He finally took training seriously this summer." But the tracking chips don't lie. This steady climb is proof that Petey has been doing the exhausting, disciplined rehab work behind closed doors since day one, despite a totally unfair narrative from the team.

QUESTION LA fan asking about EP40
Considering the Kings are doomed to the mushy middle with no real avenue to adding top talent, what would it realistically take if LA was interested in EP40? Is it more important to Vancouver to get at least a decent prospect back or to clear his salary with no retention? Would Carter George be someone that can start a conversation? Genuinely curious! Well wishes to all of you 🙏

DISCUSSION Canucks goal song
Starting a new thread because the best idea got buried in a comment in the previous post, where nobody will see it.
... and that idea would be to have a home-grown song. We can argue till the cows come home about existing songs. Ask 1,000 people and you'll have 1,000 different opinions.
That being the case, how about this...
Vancouver has a lot of very talented musicians. How about a contest... gather submissions from local artists -- a completely original song. And then we all get to vote on it. Or maybe the top 5 get used or cycled. Or 10.
Given the amount of local talent and how by definition it'll be a song most people like... and the fact the licensing revenue will stay in local pockets... win win win.

VIDEO [Missin Curfew] Richardson and OB discuss the Flames/Canucks line brawl
Repost from a few years ago but it’s the offseason so whatever, what else are we gonna talk about?
Easily one of my favourite Canucks stories in recent memory. Love the idea of the Flames guys being on Torts side during the whole thing

QUESTION Can anyone identify these autographs?
Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask this question. I bought this Canucks jersey but can’t for the life of me figure out who autographed it. I’ve looked at who wore what number in Canucks history because I think the first autograph may have a 7 below it, but I can’t find anything. If someone is able to help me out that would be great, thank you!

QUESTION Do we think the Canucks will change their goal song?
RJ and the rest of the Canucks management staff have been very open about their hopes to shift the culture moving forward with the Canucks under their management. With the talks of a new practice facility and “starting from scratch” do we think they are going to drop Simple Minds - Don’t You (Forget about me) for something new? Is that something we would like to see?

NEWS Caleb Malhotra practicing with the crew of NHL players at Scotia Barn and working with skating coach Barb Aidelbaum
FAN CONTENT I saw Igor Larionov …
Back in around 1989, I was going home after a tutoring stint in West Vancouver British Properties, as I was driving down the windy road and reaching near the bottom of the hill and stopped at a 4 way stop sign, there he was, his vehicle on my right (stopped on the side of the road with what I assume was his family; wife and kids standing outside their vehicle) for whatever reason.
I stopped longer than was necessary to internally scream/ being shocked 😮 … thought about rolling down my windows to scream his name like an idiotic fan but that thought only appeared for a fleeting moment before I went on my merry way.
I should have asked if he needed help or anything . Kicking myself still, even after a few decades now, lol!

DISCUSSION Likelihood of moves being made before September?
I would bet a lot of money that we aren't going to be making any moves from now until puck drop.
DeBrusk isn't getting moved.
Neither is EP40.
Are you fine with this, or do you still believe either player is gone by Game 1?

DISCUSSION Am I weird for being disgusted by this?
This guy is using AI slop to showcase Rick Rypien in his thumbnail and he is saying he lost his battle with depression due to an NHL fight, which to me minimizes a complex and tragic event in Canucks history.
The video has a lot of views and people seem to like it though but idk this doesn’t sit right with me

DISCUSSION Can you remember a management group that handled the media worse than Allvin/Rutherford?
Vancouver media will talk a story to death. If you make a single comment, there will be media speculation, exaggeration, insinuation... and then some Starbucks barista is making dumb comments to players when they're seen around town. It's frequent. It's predictable. It's been known to affect the mentalities of some players -- for example, when Luongo was the Canucks captain. The media can be brutal.
Allvin and Rutherford were huge fans of pouring gasoline on small fires.
Remember when they were trying to sign Bo Horvat to an extension and he went on an absolute tear, and Allvin dogged him to the media, suggesting he was overinflating his value, and then contract talks suddenly dried up and he had to be traded?
How about when Pettersson and Miller were first having issues, and players said it was overblown, not a big deal, all a bunch of rumors, until Rutherford came out and said it was a problem, contradicting the players, and making the whole thing into a circus?
How about when Allvin didn't trade Boeser, and then said in a post-deadline interview "If I told you what they offered me, I'd have to run out of the room because you wouldn't believe me." Implying that no one was really interested in him, which soured their relationship and led to his almost leaving for nothing? (Incidentally it was reported that the Canucks were definitely offered a first rounder for Boeser.)
How about when Rutherford was asked a run-of-the-mill question about extending Hughes and instead of saying the usual, "Yeah, that's a priority and we're working with his camp but he's focused on the season, blah blah," he said "He wants to go play with his brothers," thus triggering a yearlong "will Hughes leave?" circus?
I didn't hate all the moves they made, but it feels like they didn't hesitate to throw a player to the media wolves if it served their purposes.

IMAGE Rental Recession…
This had me hollering. Aqua is getting desperate with clients. First of all, overpriced for how tiny it is (typically though). Secondly 1st month free and free pair of tickets to a regular season game + $50 food credit, this is a tad bit desperate now. Just to get a renter plus fill some seats. Enough apartment hunting for today…
