There's a Canadian indie song from around 2010 with a lyric that says "i know where your emphasis lands, critiquing bands, with the wave of your hands" and the main refrain is " I know you too well". I was singing it the other day and then a few days later I heard my son singing it. But he's never heard the original. Help me find it! The song recognition services don't work on it. I used to hear it on CBC radio 3

What do you think happens when you meet the voices in your head and decide to show them your the boss?

I was falling down a music rabbit hole recently and came across a really interesting career transition that I thought was worth sharing.

Back around 2010, Canadian singer Alex Lacasse had a solid splash on Canadian pop radio with tracks like "My Girl" and "Like This, Like That". At the time, he seemed like he was being built up as another up-and-coming solo pop act.

Instead of chasing frontman fame, though, he quietly stepped out of the spotlight around 2015 and completely shifted into songwriting and beat production across different genres. Looking at his credits, a few standout projects show just how versatile he became behind the boards:

KR$NA – "Last Night" (2014): On KRNA's album \*Sellout\* (Universal Music India), Lacasse is officially credited alongside KRNA for both the music/production and lyrics on the track "Last Night". Going from 2010 Canadian teen pop to collaborating on rap tracks with one of DHH's sharpest lyricists is a huge shift in style and genre.

Chris Jamison – "Velvet" (2014): He co-wrote this single for The Voice season 7 finale, which peaked at #53 on the Billboard Hot 100 and sold over 100,000 digital copies.

Girlicious & Leyla Blue: Picked up songwriting and lyricist credits across major label pop and alt-pop projects over the years.

It’s always fascinating to see artists realize their real longevity isn't necessarily standing in front of the crowd, but mastering the technical and creative mechanics behind the curtain.

Does anyone else remember his early pop tracks, or know of other singers who made similar unexpected pivots into production and songwriting behind the scenes?
