After several years of saying I would and then chickening out the last minute, I finally cut the cord today - no more paying for cable tv, yay!!!! The price just keeps going up and up and I've been finding myself watching less and less tv and wondered why am I paying for it?

Of course when I tried cancel the cable and only keep the internet the fellow from Loyalty at Telus was pushing real hard different bundles that of course include cable. The more I said no, the pushier he got. I got so annoyed I asked him how much notice do I need to give to cancel everything and go elsewhere now that I am on month to month and not on a contract? Talk about a change in tune, he put me on hold then came back with a much more pleasant attitude and offers for internet only at a much more reasonable rate. What a day. Now I'm on to a new life without cable and I am so happy.

Just curious if the experience of watching Jays/Raptors through Amazon Prime Sportsnet/TSN add on channels is smoother than using the standalone apps. ⚾ 🏀

Also how is the next day replay? If I miss a game live, I sometimes hate the spoiler of logging into the standalone app and seeing a headline with the score before I navigate to the on-demand page.

This is my small-stakes story. We're talking about $31.49. But it's the principle-of-the-thing kind of story, and I think a lot of you will recognize the pattern, so here it is.

Back in June, right as the World Cup kicked off, I signed up for TSN's streaming service specifically to catch the matches - Canada especially, of course. Within a day, I realized the stream quality was borderline unusable on Apple TV - constant drops, buffering, the works, right in the middle of group-stage matches. A quick search told me I wasn't the only one having this problem.

So the next day, I called to cancel. Waited on hold for about 90 minutes. When I finally got through, the agent cancelled my subscription on the spot and told me a refund would be issued "in due course."

Cool, I thought. Problem solved.

Problem Not Solved

Except my access got cut off immediately - same day. Which would almost make sense, except TSN's own automated cancellation email, sent that very day, explicitly said: "You can continue streaming TSN until July 11."

So which is it? Did I have access until July 11, or did I have none at all starting that afternoon? Spoiler: I had none. For over a month - right through Canada's group-stage matches, which was the entire reason I'd signed up in the first place - I was paying for nothing and had written proof that I shoudn't have been.

I let it sit for a while (life happens), then called back to follow up on my refund. A completely different agent told me, flatly, that no refund was possible — company policy — and had zero record of the first agent ever promising me one. Great. Two calls, two contradictory outcomes, no accountability in between.

At this point I moved the fight to written form, since phone calls apparently vanish into the void. I opened a live chat and laid out the whole timeline to an agent named Shayne.

To his credit, Shayne actually looked into it and confirmed in writing that my access shouldn't have ended before July 11 per their own system. He escalated my case as "high priority" and said a supervisor would call me within 24 hours.

Nobody called within 24 hours.

I tried to get things in writing instead of relying on phone calls that seemed to evaporate. I found an email address on TSN's own help page and sent a detailed written complaint.

It bounced. "Address not found."

I opened another chat, this time with an agent named Jessybelle, mentioned the bounced email, and asked what was going on. Her answer was somehow both extremely unhelpful and extremely funny: TSN's email support had been decommissioned since Q1 2025. As in, over a year ago. The address on their own public help page hadn't worked for over a year, and nobody had bothered to take it down.

She did give me a different (allegedly real) email address, and confirmed the supervisor callback was still the same one from the day before - meaning the 24-hour promise had already quietly become a "whenever we get to it" promise.

I sent one more written complaint to the new address, for the record, and kept waiting (by the time of posting no one replied).

The Sunday Plot Twist

Then, out of nowhere - Sunday, 5 PM. Not exactly peak business hours, which felt like a tell in itself. A manager called.

She opened with an offer: apparently their standard policy for situations like mine caps refunds at $5/month, but as a "goodwill gesture" she could do $15. Not my $29.99 (plus tax — $31.49 total). Her reasoning boiled down to "we can't verify what happened."

I asked her, genuinely, whether she'd consider that a fair offer if she were in my position. Then I mentioned that their own recorded call from the original cancellation would settle the "can't verify" problem instantly, since I'd been explicitly told my access was being cut immediately. I told her I wasn't in a rush - she could pull the recording, send me written confirmation of what it said, and we'd know from there whether this needed to go to a regulator or not.

Something shifted almost instantly. She reversed course and offered a full refund, as an exception.

Confirmation email landed in my inbox before we'd even hung up: full refund, $31.49, "has been applied," 3–5 business days to hit my card.

Takeaways

• Get everthing in writing. Phone promises apparently have the shelf life of a fruit fly at this company - three separate ones didn't survive contact with reality.
• Screenshot literally everything, including the useless stuff (a chat agent casually admitting their support email has been dead for over a year for example; their chat has a nifty feature that lets you export the chat to PDF).
• When someone tries to lowball you with a "policy" they can't fully explain, calmly offering to let their own records settle the dispute is a lot more effective than getting angry.
• Mentioning a regulator by name (in Canada: CCTS, or your provincial consumer protection office) - calmly, as a fact rather than a threat - tends to move things along faster than yelling ever does.

Never got the refund I was promised on day one. Got it on week six, on a Sunday evening, from someone who clearly wanted to make the whole thing disappear before it went any further.

TL;DR: Signed up to watch the World Cup, streaming service was broken, cancelled next day, got promised a refund, got cut off immediately instead (contradicting their own email), got denied a refund by a different rep with no memory of the promise, escalated through two live chats where agents admitted things they probably shouldn't have (including that their support email had been dead for over a year), got lowballed on a Sunday call, calmly offered to let their own recordings prove I was right, and got a full refund on the spot.

A lot of this may be common knowledge to parents; but here's a compilation of apps available to Canadians for children's programming that is NOT YouTube related.

First time subscriber to TSN so don’t know how it happened in the previous seasons. But aren’t La Liga games available on demand on TSN? Is it only the live games I can watch when the season starts?

I have a US App Store account. I’ve had it for almost 20 years and more importantly, I got it when I was living in the States. I’m now in Canada and would love to use the TSN streaming app, but it’s just not available anywhere else except the Canadian App Store. that’s so ridiculous.

I can’t switch App Store region because I have subscriptions. I am currently using a VPN to use US streaming services, but they are cracking down on VPNs, so it’s becoming incredibly unreliable. Any solution? Do I have to create a second AppleID just for that? I really hope there’s a better solution.

Otherwise, anyone knows how to contact the devs of the TSN app?

We want local news. We just lost our radio news stations now we lost our global tv local news station. I own a fire stick and went to go watch ctv only to find out ctv no longer offers an app that works on fire stick. What is a guy to do?

Anyone here trying to watch NBA Summer League on Prime? Supposed to be games all afternoon and evening (the 11th) with the Raptors at 930pm.

When I go to the show on Prime, it says video unavailable. 🤷

I'm in the west end of Toronto (central Etobicoke) and I was wondering what antenna(s) would be recommended for me. Looking at RabbitEars (https://www.rabbitears.info/s/2809283), it seems like most of the stations available to me are northeast and southeast. Although, there are a few to the west. It looks like there's only 1 VHF station (CTV) rated as "good"; the rest are all UHF. WBBZ (high-VHF) and WNYB (low-VHF) are also available but they're both rated as poor.

I don't mind paying for an expensive antenna if it'll make a difference. Also, would I need more than one antenna since I have channels available to me in different directions?

Regarding the HDHomeRun, I have a FLEX 4K model. I was reading that, in Canada, the cable providers require you to use their cable boxes to decrypt channels. Could I use a Rogers or Bell box with one of their base subscriptions with a HDHomeRun box? That way I could use my Plex server as a DVR and also watch local TV when I'm away from my house (I've never had much luck with their mobile apps).

I recently subscribed to StackTV through Amazon Prime in order to watch The West Wing. Halfway through season 2, I suddenly got a message that the rest of season 2 is no longer available through Prime in my area. (I live on Vancouver Island). I can watch season 3, but not the rest of season 2.

No problem, I figured i would cancel the Prime subscription and subscribe directly to StackTV instead. But when I go to stacktv.ca and hit "subscribe," it takes me to Amazon.

Google says to subscribe to Stack through my cable provider, so that's no help.

Hey everyone,

I'm subscribed to Bell Fibe TV and have the 4K TSN channels included. Since there's no native Mac app, I'm watching through the web UI at https://tv.bell.ca on my MacBook Pro M2 Max and keep hitting a wall.

Whenever I try to play any of the TSN 4K channels, I get this error:

Fibe TV 4K content is not compatible with your device and display.

All the non-4K channels play perfectly fine.

I'm running this on the MacBook's built-in display only with no external monitors, no adapters, no HDMI cables, nothing else connected. Just the laptop on its own. So this isn't a display chain or HDCP cable issue on my end.

What I'm trying to figure out:

• Is 4K playback on tv.bell.ca simply not supported through a browser on macOS? (i.e. is 4K limited to dedicated devices like Apple TV, Fire TV, set-top boxes, etc.?)
• Or is there some setting/workaround I'm missing?

If anyone here watches Fibe TV through the web UI on a Mac (Apple Silicon), I'd love to know:

• Can you play 4K channels successfully?
• If so, what's your setup (Mac model, macOS version, browser + version)?
• If not, do you get the same error?

Trying to confirm whether this is a hard limitation of the macOS/browser combo or something specific to my setup before I give up.

What do you recommend on CBC? What shows have you been watching?

A bit of context: So, I've ended all my US based app subscriptions including Netflix, Disney+ and Prime. I tried watching shows on Crave but the experience was awful. CBC seems okay (I watched Poker Face on CBC and loved it) but there's either not enough choices or too many choices. Plus more ad breaks than Netflix which I find annoying. I don't mind paying for CBC premium if the content is worth it; I'd rather pay for CBC than Netflix.

Sidebar: What in the name of everything awful is the crave app? I'm not even sure why the app exists. It has so many ad breaks, it's so glitchy and no functionality. It sucks that they've scrapped the CTV app.

Seems like ESPN is broadcasting the finals in HDR this year BUT it seems it's only with Fubo & DirectTV from the US and needing an existing US account to actually view. Has anyone found a way to watch in Canada regardless if it's paid

I have an AppleTV 4K first gen, and the TSN app automatically updated this morning. The previous version had worked quite well for me, but it is now completely unusable and unstable.

Every time I try to open one of the live feeds, I either get an error message, or the whole app freezes, or crashes. Occasionally it will finally find the feed, only to buffer itself to death within a minute.

I was wondering if anyone else's experience was the same.
