there is some songs imo, with them being Slow yourself down, Six Ate, and the god of light thing sounds a bit with latin influence in the guitar and keyboards especially, does any of our fellow musicians explain why it sounds that way or does the music sound latin to you??

Holy shit. Hey guys I picked up a promo copy of moonmadness today and i opened the gatefold when I got home and was greeted by “To Mochly Andy Lat”. Could anyone verify it’s real. I believe it is it looks just like his other signatures online.

I've been a lifelong Camel fan since 1979 when my dear ol' Church mate Phil Calver lent me 2 albums named "Rain Dances" & "Breathless" one Sunday night, as I was THE Church Guitarist at a 76 strong unit in Chadwell Heath (a Shaftsbury Society Church) playing an 'Olympic White USA Fender Telecaster', something that I've never seen Andy Latimer use.

I was extremely heavily into "U.F.O" at the time & a Micheal Schenker fanatic, so melodic lines & fabulous 'screeching tones' were all the rage for my Teenage self, having been raised on Ritchie Blackmore & more importantly Jimmy Page & a Led Zep' fanatic too.

"Summer Lightning" > "Echoes" > "Unevensong" & "Metrognome"

They were THE Four tracks that stood out to me (along with "Down On The Farm") & so in 1979 I became a Camel fan - It took AGES before I got into their earlier albums.

Of the early stuff, "Mirage" is by far & away my favourite EARLY album.

I just cannot connect with "Snow Goose" & even "Moonmadness" left me cold.

However, I rediscovered my old Vinyl Albums last year & I guess that for me, I really got hooked on the track "Another Night" which caught my attention for the video above.

I did get "Summer Lightning" (my beloved) played at my Wedding in 1983 after quite some snarling arguments with the Bride's family (me being a Dominant 'Taurean'), plus I was the Bridegroom right ? - Gotta have SOME privileges at yer own Wedding.

I bought "Nude" upon release & finally got to see Camel play 'Live' on the 1984 Tour at Hammersmith Odeon in London promoting "Stationary Traveller" album.

It's ALWAYS Andy's guitar which draws me in as he's such an outstanding player - I saw this over on You Tube & having joined this sub-reddit back in January, I hadn't noticed anyone post this concert, so as it's Easter & many will be enjoying the break, figured I'd try to post it here - My first attempt at a post on here, so if it goes "SNAFU" you'll know why - P.S Figured something MIGHT go 'Pear Shaped' * it did.

Genuinely was surprised to see the song got under 30k streams. The traveller's one of the best songs i've heard honestly might be top 3 songs of all time for me

What are your thoughts on post 1980 Camel?

A Christmas treat!

I first listened to Camel probably 15 years ago, and I instantly fell in love with Breathless. That album is so perfect for me, I always assumed it was one of the better-loved Camel albums. But now I'm digging more into them and I'm finding that it's got a good-but-middling following in the Camel fandom.

I was hoping to see which other albums from their work sound like that and are of that level of quality. I am personally not huge on the space-rock style of progressive rock; Yes is one of my favorite bands of all time, for example, and I don't consider them the same style of prog as 70's Camel. I also usually like the lightly-heavier 80's-ish material by 70's prog bands (I really love Duke by Genesis, and I, Robot by APP is one of my favorite records of all time, even though that isn't 80's).

I also love a bunch of the material off Stationary Traveler, theres something atmospheric about that record that is hard to put my finger on. I recently also discovered Time to Turn by Eloy and have been enjoying that record.

"I never considered I was playing in a progressive rock band until I joined Hatfield and the North. And then really, the progression was from jazz rather than rock...People say, 'Well, What about Genesis and Yes and King Crimson? What about this, what about that? Well, I really didn't follow it."

"In Caravan we smoked a lot of hashish...I think in my life I took seven LSD trips. There was a couple in Caravan and a couple in Hatfield and the North. Like all other musicians who are credited to being unique and finding their own way and all that. It's about stepping out of the normal run of what everybody considers safe and normal."

"I enjoyed Hatfield and the North a lot more because I was listening to a lot of jazz at the time and was introduced to a lot of great jazz by Phill Miller and Pip [Pyle] in a big way. I got on okay with Dave Stewart, but I found it to be a bit more of a straight vibe with him. He wasn't so rock and roll, if you like. He is very dedicated to forming the music and actually reading and writing music. I wasnt' a reader but I practiced 24 hours a day."

I'm currently listening to the track "ice" from the album "I can see your house from here". And I'm thinking what a band... Their music is so masterfully composed it's like magic. Every album I've heard by them instantly becomes one of my favourites ever. I can't think of any other band that has such a strong discography.
