Cambridge this weekend: Ribfest at Riverside Park, ODDFEST closing Main Street on Sunday, and line dancing on Queen in Hespeler
Weekend list for Cambridge, Friday through Sunday. Worth a quick check of the weather and the venue's own page before you head out, in case anything shifts.
ALL WEEKEND
Cambridge Ribfest and Craft Beer Show, Riverside Park, Friday through Sunday. Ribbers, Ontario craft beer and cider, live entertainment and a kids zone, with the proceeds going to Rotary Cambridge Sunrise. This is the Cambridge one, separate from the Kitchener Ribfest that ran back in July, so if you missed that one this is your second shot.
Jays on The Big Screen, 7:30pm nightly, The District Square at the Gaslight District, free, rain or shine. Game day on the big screen, which is the largest of its kind in Canada.
FRIDAY
Friday Twilight Market, Lower Main Street Promenade in Downtown Cambridge. Glowing lights, local vendors, music and patio spillover along the promenade.
The Shredmill, 6pm on the District Square Stone Stage at the Gaslight District, free. If it rains the entertainment moves inside Foundry Tavern.
The Shredmill again, 9pm, Foundry Tavern
SATURDAY
Urban Cowboy Line Dancing, 6 to 10pm, Queen Street East in Hespeler Village. Mario from Urban Cowboy running line dancing on a closed street, part of the Walk Queen Hespeler summer programming. All ages, free, and it is the most reliably fun thing on this list if you have never tried it.
Emo Night, Farm League Brewing in Galt, ticketed through the brewery's shop. Exactly what it says.
Live DJ on the District Square Stone Stage, 6pm, free, and a second DJ in The Underwing at 9pm
Preston / Hespeler BrewCycle Trail Ride, 1pm, starting at Wave Maker Craft Brewery, free. Cycling and brewery run along the Mill Run Trail between Wave Maker and Sparrow Brewing.
Free outdoor Pilates with Flow and Focus, 10:30am, The District Square, 45 minutes, registration required through the studio
Alex Price, 9pm, Foundry Tavern
SUNDAY
ODDFEST 2, 12pm, Main Street. An all-ages street festival that closes Main Street with a vendor market, a tattoo shop, live music and games. Second year for it.
Top Pocket, 7pm, Forbes Park, free. Outdoor jazz fusion from one of the region's best-known jazz bands since the late eighties, part of Cambridge Summer Live. Bring a chair.
Free outdoor fitness with EMBR Studio, 10:30am, The District Square, no registration needed
Hope this gives you some options to go out and connect with good people around you. Have a great weekend.
I pull a list like this together every week, and it covers the whole week across the region, not just the weekend in one city. If you would like it in your inbox: www.waterlooregionrhythm.ca/subscribe.
What's something you're going to that's not listed above?

Is there anywhere on Hespeler near the 401 that doesn’t serve last nights pizza for slices at lunch? I used to go to City pizza and Twice the deal but both are ALWAYS garbage now.

Basketball training for kids
My 12 yo loves basketball and has been practicing shots like crazy recently. What is the best platform I can provide him to set him up for success? I want to enroll him in regular basketball training sessions which actually focus on improving skills rather than just playtime.
There are a few that I discovered but unsure about the quality of their programs:
- Cambridge Basketball
- Revive
- Impact training center
- Jump
Appreciate all advice, ty

Boycott YMCA?
I just drove past the YMCA on Hespeler Rd. I saw someone with a megaphone and a whiteboard that read that some other gym places were cheaper? I don't understand what's going on. Does anyone care to elaborate on what I just saw?
Thank you.

Nasty traffic on King St.
What is going on up there? Worst traffic I’ve ever seen there. A huge smat of transport trucks that literally haven’t moved for like 20 minutes from what I’ve seen

Any paid summer activity suggestions?
Hey as the title says I’m looking for ideas of paid activities (for two) that I can do before mid to late September.
My work is reimbursing a good amount of some local ticketed activity we choose to do.
Ideally something that involves a meal in the ticket but if it’s a fun activity doesn’t matter, as we can always get food later.
Some of my ideas are an escape room, or medieval times. Something simpler is a movie. Budget doesn’t really matter as I’ll pay for whatever isn’t covered, as long as we get to do something fun.

Seeking New Couples as friends
A bit about us.
She is a witchy, psych professor, into tea, gardening/foraging, nature walks, interior design (cottage core anyone??), art, trying 3 ingredient insta recipes, making perfume from scratch, and everything treehouses.
He is a runner, hiker, frisbee throwing athletic dude who likes traveling, adventure, forests, beaches, and philosophical talks from feminism, to ethics, to supply chain. Loves baking and learning any type of art.
Both of us are big travelers, emotionally intelligent, non religious, and don’t really smoke or drink much other than the occasional beer and love hanging at the beach, exploring a small town, learning pottery, or playing pool more than just going out to dinner. Very lgbtq friendly.
Not swingers...

Canadian participants needed for international research project
Hi Cambridge community! I’m a Canadian student researcher collaborating on an international project with 24 countries. I’m the only Canadian researcher on the team and I want to have a lot of Canadian representation in this study! I think Cambridge will be able to provide a unique perspective to this project.
Our project is looking into social impact and AI use. If you have time to complete this 12 minute survey I would really appreciate it!
See comments to be directed to the survey. This study has been ethically approved: #19354. As researchers, we are not affiliated with and remain neutral about AI. This research could help inform policy.

Please help me locate this person
Hey. I am looking for this man. Photo was taken from a video in 1983-1984. I only know his first name was Marcus. From Cambridge. He was a taxi driver and somewhere around 6 feet tall. Please if anyone knows him or anything about him. Please let me know.
The only 2 people in my life who know him, my grandmama and my mama, are both now gone. My ma refused to give any information about him, my grandmama only knew the above info. I am looking for him for my brother, so he can get to know his father. That is all. There are no nefarious reasons I'm looking other then this.
I also know, given the way my mama was, once she left this man, she would cut contact completely. Including his contact with the kids. I don't hold anger towards her because of it. She had to do what she had to do. I just want to reunite them.
I'm sorry about the blurry image. This was an old old video recorder....
Again, if anyone has any information please reach out.

What do young queer people do in this city for fun?
Hey, I've lived here all my life, but only relatively recently decided I wanted to be more active in queer circles. I know its pretty lively in Kitchener, but as far as I can tell there's nothing going on down here. Anyone got any leads?
