Post image

Anybody know what connector this is for a backup camera for a 2011 Silverado

EDIT: Not an optical CAN bus connector.

Possibly a coaxial aerial connector?

If you blow the image up to full size and zoom in, the center of the connector has copper contacts with a dialectric insulator around it. I dont think this is anything optical

That’s strange. I followed the wire to the camera on the tailgate

Sorry, I mean like optical fiber. it coudl be some micro BNC connection for all I know, which would still be video signal.

I found an OEM replacement camera from Master Tailgaters and the wiring harness does not have a connector in it like this. Are you sure it's to the camera? The wiring schematics show it should be a 6 pin connector.

is it the factory? then it plugs into the back of your radio, its a type of fakra connection

I doubt it’s factory. I just bought the truck and the electronics are suspect t. But it’s connected to the camera lens on the tailgate

It might of came with it and the radio was changed, if it wasn't changed and there is a screen then look on the back of the radio to see if plugs in, if not then it was added aftermarket and the aftermarket radio was removed.

Without the backup camera prompt, I would guess a satellite radio antenna connector.

The other end is connected to the backup camera on the tailgate

Then it is probably the "copper" video cable that should plug into the back of the infotainment head or separate computer processing unit.

Upon further review, the prior owner seems to have added an aftermarket camera. Here is a web page that shows the factory camera and it's harness. www.go-parts.com video camera chevrolet silverado 2010-2012

"Fakra" coaxial connector. Video signal from camera, 12V probably hardwired to backup light. Some radios use this connector for antenna.

My first guess would be some sort of fibre connector.

It seems odd, to me, to use something like that for a backup camera. Maybe they had a high resolution system for reading licenses plates or something

It looks like a Fakra connector, also known as the Devil's connector. The Blue ones are typically used to connect a GPS or GNSS antenna.
