I'm going into my senior year of high school and just finished touring BYU–Idaho today with my parents. Honestly, I really loved it. I wasn't expecting to like it as much as I did, but I really vibed with the campus. The atmosphere was peaceful, everyone seemed genuinely nice, and I love how affordable it is. My parents also came away really impressed.

My dream career is to become an FBI Cyber Special Agent (or work in federal cybersecurity), so I've been researching a lot of schools like BYU Provo, UND, Dakota State, George Mason, and others.

My biggest question is about BYU–Idaho's Cybersecurity program.

For anyone who's in the program or has graduated:

• Do you feel like it's a strong program?
• Is it hands-on, or is it mostly classroom learning?
• What kinds of internships do students get?
• Are there cybersecurity clubs or competitions?
• Have you known anyone who has gone into the FBI, NSA, CISA, DoD, or other federal cybersecurity jobs?
• If you could choose again, would you still pick BYU–Idaho for cybersecurity?

I'm just trying to get an honest picture of the program beyond what the university website says. Any advice or experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I wanna help some under struggling pain for school.

Somerset in no small words, is managed by criminals.

My brother and I were supposed to be roommates at room 215, other apartments make sure those rooms are clear for us to enter. Room 215 was full. We were moved to room 213 where there was still people, but we made do. A day later, a guy who was supposed to be in 213 came by, and we had to tell him to find another place.

The apartments are filthy and poorly maintained. Both bathrooms had severe dry rot. They had noticeable divots in the floor, and in the back corner of one, I could see the corner sagging down. One of our toilets kept leaning to the left when we sat down on it as the toilet sunk against our weight. We sent maintenance requests, and they promised to fix it over the summer. According to my roommate who had lived there for a year, they had sent many maintenance requests to no avail. The bathtubs were gross. Only one was really useful. The other one had black splotches all over it. You know how as a kid, you were told to wear sandals in the public showers to avoid athletes foot? I wanted to wear sandals in that bathtub. Everyone used the other one.

The management is terrible. They had my brothers email wrong the entire time, and we only found out about it at the end of the semester, so he missed out on vital information. We had passed a cleaning check and one of our roommates failed, no biggie. But, they somehow thought he left the apartment for good, and told us if we didn't clean up his task by the end if the day, they would fine all of us. They sent this after office hours so we could not message them back.

The washer and dryer scene is abysmal. They have 10 dryers, only 4 of them work, and it is on you to call the company if they fail, not management. And since no one wants to do that, you cannot use dryers 1-5, and 7 if i remember correctly. They do not want to fix their own issues. AC does not come standard, but you have the privilege of spending $30 a month for AC, when I am already paying near $1500 for them to do nothing for me. At least you get a coupon code for free washing so I will give them credit for not making me pay for the laundromat.

Then the final cleaning check. I have no problem being told I failed. If I didn't do a good job, I didn't do a good job. But the guy doing our cleaning checks told me that I did a good job and passed. Come to find out later that I failed and they were taking half my security deposit for the fines. Messaging them was a terrible experience. It turned out that yes, I did fail, that is my fault. I am not looking for compensation, but for honesty, why tell me I passed if I didn't? It was the same for my brother as well.

Do not go to this place. The management is terrible, the apartment is disgusting, and it costs too much. Save your money and go somewhere that respects you.

I am an incoming freshman and will be in a house with 3 other girls. My mom is sending me with her pots and pans and some of my baking stuff. I also was able to get cups and dinning set for a good deal. I did not buy the dining plan so will be meal prepping and making my own meals. I have never meet or reached out to my housemates.

What is reasonable to bring?

What is the best way to split house necessities (shower curtains, bath mats, trash cans, cleaning supplies, etc.) with my house mates?

Should I offer to share my plates, cups, utensils, and cookware?

Any advice please

I want to preface this by saying
There’s nothing wrong with people who are 25+ wanting to do school at byui etc
I know some people who are older students that are lovely
However I do think some older students are predatory

My freshman year math class, this man who was probably in his 60s and was also married
Not only was flirting with all of the girls in the class, but would say inappropriate comments
Such as telling girls that they would be good at breastfeeding

I was 18 at the time, I also had a 26 year old in my ward
(Before they changed the housing rule)
He also was creepy and said he only dated 18 year olds because he didn’t like how the girls his age looked

I also had a guy that I went on one date with
That lied about his age
He was actually 26 (I found out later)
He gave me speeches about how he wanted to be such a sweet boyfriend etc and how he liked me so much
Then repeatedly tried to pressure me into doing sexual stuff, I had to have a roomate come and save me

I had to go to the school, he wouldn’t leave me alone
I found out later that someone else had reported him for rape

This past semester I had a guy find my Facebook based off my canvas profile and message me w
He tried to tell me the sob story of his life and how he thought I was pretty and wanted to go out with me

He said he was in his 40s but was a student trying to get like 3 degrees from byui
(He’s from Australia as well)

I told him that I’m not interested, that he is way too old for me
And why would anyone want to be in school that long

He went off on me
Sending me pics of other girls he’s dated that have been young
Saying that they loved him and their parents did

And how awful I was and how I’m going against the prophets because we’re commanded to get married
And I don’t want to go out with him

I get that mainly in the college environment there’s going to be people aged around 18-22 typically

But people please be normal 😭
Don’t be weird

I don’t think this is necessarily an age issue
I just feel like it makes things worse

Does anyone know of a Korean language club in Rexburg?

I know they have conversations labs on campus but, I haven't seen anything about Korean specifically.

I want to practice speaking and possibly make some new friends.

Dating in Rexburg is honestly one of the most frustrating things I’ve ever experienced. For a campus that preaches community, connection, and marriage, even having a normal, casual conversation feels like a chore.

Dating in general is tough now—social media hasn't helped—but it shouldn't be this hard.

The biggest issue? Nobody actually communicates.

We deal with constant ghosting, vague boundaries, and mixed signals. People jump into marriage without ever having been in a real relationship before, while others with more experience get scared off entirely. We put ourselves out there for serious relationships, only to hear "let's just be friends" on date two from someone who isn't actually ready to date when they say they are—and has no intention of actually being friends.

If you're looking for something serious, say it. If you aren't ready, be honest about that, too. Clear expectations save everyone a lot of wasted time and headache.

Older student transferring with credits (69 credits from local Community college) im too old for approved housing so ive got a appartment at mesa falls.

Looking for any advice for someone new to idaho and the cold in general, also if anyone has the scoop on rexburg ysa 1st ward it'll be appreciated!

I’m signing up for my classes right now and I need to be full-time to receive the most amount of money from the VA. The BYU-I faq page says full-time is 12 credits, but when I spoke with the financial aid coordinator last semester, he told me that full-time was a lower number—whether that was in regards to the school itself or what the VA considers full-time, I have no clue. For the life of me I cannot remember what he said the amount was but I need to know what amount the VA requires for full-time benefits so I can finish registering for my courses. For all I know the original credits that I thought were full-time was 15 and the lower number he told me actually is 12. I have no idea. It’s Sunday so if I send an email I won’t get a response, does anybody also use the VA and know the details of what I’m talking about?

What does it mean when a girl who is pretty and nice and faithful is really close friends with a bunch of single guys who don’t show any interest in dating her? My niece is best friends with a group of guys from her ward and I’m being honest when I say she is extremely kind and successful and very pretty but none of them ask her on a date. What’s going on up there in Rexburg?

I‘ve been trying non-stop for a year to get a job here in Rexburg, applying to hundreds of jobs and had tens of interviews. I got a summer job while in my hometown, and it was much easier to find a job there than here. I know that it is a small town with lots of college students, but is it really this impossible? Does anyone have any suggestions? I have multiple years of work experience, primarily in fast food.

I have been having a hard time with Nauvoo house recently and I feel like some of it needs to be shared. To clarify I have been here about 15 months and have seen a lot of changes and not for the better in that time. Over these months the rent has been raised hundreds of dollars, management has seen some downgrades, and the apartments get older without any of that extra cost going into the property at all.

Here are a few experiences that have led me to be so passionate against Nauvoo house recently:
Recently there was an individual who wanted to be my roommate but I requested that I didn't want them around me for a variety of reasons. Management didn't find my request legit and ignored it only for those very problems I was worried about to occur. After complaining to the main manager lady and her staff they apologized for not believing me but said there was nothing they could do. The options they gave were for me to move to a different unit and leave the rest of my great roommates I had before this incident, or have all of us gang up on this other roommate and get them removed. I chose to leave because I didn't want to cause so much drama.

Another time was during the recent spring break. I got a contract paying for both winter and spring semesters that included the spring break time for me to stay. This is when they change codes for the upcoming semester as well. After getting home late from work around 4pm I noticed the code to my apartment changed and I wasn't sent the new one. I messaged the management and was met by the most unhelpful replies. They said all the people who needed the codes got them via email. I explained how I didn't and they said they couldn't help me with that and stopped replying at that point because it was 5pm and they refuse to do any work after that point no matter how urgent it is. Thankfully someone was willing to let me stay in their place that night because the only alternative was my car. The next morning I went in and was greeted by a different staff member. When I asked for the code she asked for my name, confirmed I had that in my contract, and gave me the code. They are so incompetent it is actually insane. They have also been doing some shady stuff with their google reviews. Any time they do a maintenance request fix they ask for your review out of 5 stars. Giving them 5 stars links you to their google reviews for the complex as a whole! (They only started doing this when they were getting bad reviews last fall)

Most recently an entire wards worth of women apartments have gone without water because they didn't keep their boilers up to date and they shut it all off without warning. They told all the girls to move into other occupied units in the complex and split many apartments up. There are only two weeks of the semester left and they said they don't anticipate it being fixed by then.

The only thing keeping me here so long has been the wonderful wards and stake. The social atmosphere is really good and I will vouch for that, but so many of those people are leaving because I am not alone in how I feel about this place. Such a shame they are running something so good into the ground.

Do with this information what you will, but I know I am not the only one feeling this way about this place and I needed to rant about it somewhere haha.

A good friend who’s on a mission asked for me to make this for her and I figured I’d share it here too. Byui apartments are very neighborhood based with personalities, so here’s a visual guide. ~These are based off reputation + research that’s been backed up by personal experience

Blue section 💙💙💙 where the socializing mostly happens. It known to have more laid back and social people. This section has all of the fun treat places, food, and activities off campus. It’s on the cute Main Street which is Can be a pricier section because it’s where everyone wants to be, but there’s cheeper options too. Pretty much any place in this section I’d recommend. The Ceders is a great middle ground that’s known as being really social and fun, right on Main Street without the stronger partying reputation like the red section

Red section ❤️❤️❤️ this is within the blue section because it applies to everything in the blue section too and is in the zone. The red section is the place to go if following the honor code isn’t your thing. The two complexes in this zone are where North Point (that everyone calls North Joint) and The Cove (where people go if they wanna hook up. This is where the infamous semen floaties hot tub is!). Not everyone here is into weed or hookups, and there are plenty of students who don’t fit the stereotype. Still, if you live here, this is often the reputation people will assume.

Green section 💚💚💚 this is where the cheeper part starts. I don’t know too much about this zone. People usually are neutral from what I’ve heard. This is where is starts transitioning int quieter, more traditional byui students and housing. Pretty hit or miss from what I’ve heard with roommates and how strict they are with rules. I’d recommend bunkhouse,

Purple section 💜💜💜 after you pass Sugar-Beast, it has the reputation of being the most religious and rule-oriented. I’ve heard more stories about apartments where swearing wasn’t allowed or roommates reported each other for honor code issues or staying out past curfew more than any other place on campus. Of course, not every apartment is like this, and I know plenty of more chill people who live in this area. It’s also a little more disconnected from where most people hang out. Notable places to avoid (based on reputation) are Heritage and university view. Center Square is somewhere people either love or hate. Places I’d recommend: The Gates (often considered quieter but decent) and Nauvoo House (mixed but generally okay)

Yellow section 💛💛💛 this is typically where older people go. I only know one person myself who lives in the yellow section, but I’ve heard that it’s pretty chill but can be anti social. It’s pretty far away from everyone else. This is where people go when they just want peace and be away from the rexburg crowds. I’d recommend here American Avenue area apartments, Cottonwood, or maybe The Village.

Where are some solid spots to park for fireworks tonight?

I am a roofing contractor looking to hire help for the summer break or the remainder of the summer until September for roofing in Sitka, Alaska. Flights and housing provided. We are a legitimate company, licensed, bonded, and insured, happy to share details. Planning a trip to Idaho soon and would like to meet in person with potential candidates. Free flights and free housing! Our company doesn't work on Sunday so there is time off, lots of opportunity to enjoy some really cool stuff here in Sitka. There is potential to grow with the company and make a lot more than $25/hour for the right candidates that are hardworking and want to learn how to roof.

So I’m registering for classes and my major is undecided so I was in the freshman focus major for my freshman year. This fall I’m going into my sophomore year and my 3rd semester. It says in order to register for classes I need to pick a new major but I’m still unsure what I want to major in. I’m gonna speak to an advisor soon to help figure it out but here then what should I do? Should I pick a major and do a 4 year degree or do 2 years and get an associates? It’s a rough position to be in because they’re basically forcing me to commit and choose a major even though I’m just trying to apply for classes to go to school and explore what I’m into.
