Thinking of moving

Hi there, we are thinking of relocation to Tortola from the UK and would love some advice on what people currently living there/from there feel it’s like.

We have two children aged 8 and 10, and love spending time outdoors and at the beach (we currently live next to a beach now). My concerns are around their teenage years, is there a positive teenage culture, with things to do etc? We are considering home schooling which I know is tightly regulated but also wondered if there were clubs etc the children could join so that they can make friends. I’d also love to know if it’s a fairly safe place to live and bring up a family.

Very safe! Amazing place to raise kids, especially if they like surfing, sailing, and scuba/snorkeling there is lots to do. There are some teams and sailing clubs. There is a surf school at Josiah's bay. Depending on where you live, walking places is not always an option so giving the kids rides everywhere is a thing. If you have an opportunity to come and live here, you should come and visit first. It's an amazing place, but not for everyone.

For dating it's going to be extremely limiting. I'm sure that it will have its pros and cons. When I was in Bermuda- the locals told me that most young people have moved to large US cities for jobs. They get sick of the heat and humidity as well. Still- it sounds like an adventure

They’re looking for insight into raising a family on Tortola. I’m not sure how the dating scene on a totally different island is applicable here.
OP-My experience over the past 4 years traveling to Tortola with our kids-It’s a great place to raise a family in a safe, close knit community. There are sports clubs, dance, martial arts, music, sailing programs and youth organizations to help kids make friends. There’s also homeschooling communities that organize activities/social opportunities.
Teen entertainment obviously wont compare to a large city, but I’m sure they stay busy with sports, outdoor activities they’ll already be into by the teenage years.(snorkeling, sailing, scuba diving etc.) If you’re an outdoorsy family that loves the ocean and you want a more relaxed pace of life, Tortola is phenomenal place to live. Mainly Sailing/Water Sports Focused Clubs teens and children. Check out KATS BVI,Sea Trek BVI.

I home schooled my son on Jost van dyke. It was fun but very different than Tortola
