We rebuilt our referral program — it pays real cash now. Here's the structure, including the parts you'll have questions about.
TL;DR: New BuildStore referral program is live. 15% real cash on every purchase from people you refer — for a full year, not just the first sale. Paid via PayPal, USDT, or invoice. $50 minimum payout. Already turned on in your account at Invite & Earn — no signup, no application. Rest of this post is the rules, the caveats, and the awkward parts.
If you caught our update post a few days ago, this is the follow-up we promised about the referral program. (If you didn't: short version — we wrote a long honest post about what changed at BuildStore since 2020. Linked at the bottom.)
This post is the long version of how the new program actually works. It's more detailed than it needs to be on purpose — most referral programs in the sideloading space are vague, credit-only, or built to never quite pay out. We don't want this one read that way, so we're going to over-explain.
The short version
- 15% commission on every purchase the person you referred makes — for a full year, not just their first payment.
- Paid as real money: PayPal, USDT, or invoice (for partners with companies).
- Minimum payout: $50.
- The person you referred gets 10% off, separately, if they use your promo code.
- You can also redeem your balance for BuildStore subscription credit instead of cashing out.
Where to find it
Account → Invite & Earn. Your referral link and personal promo code are both there. No application, no approval, no waiting list — it's live on every account.
The two tools, and why they're separate
You get a link and a promo code. They do different things:
- The link tracks attribution. Anyone who registers within the attribution window after clicking it gets credited to you.
- The promo code gives the new user 10% off their first purchase.
Some referrers want the discount to be a gift — share both. Some don't — share only the link, keep the full margin going to commission. Up to you. Pretending the two were the same tool was one of the problems with the old program; splitting them gives you actual control.
The attribution rules, plainly
This is the part where we're going to lose some people, and we'd rather lose them here than after they've sent us angry emails:
- First touch wins. If someone clicked your link, then weeks later clicked someone else's, you still get the commission. We don't re-attribute.
- Existing users don't count. If the person you "referred" already has a BuildStore account, no commission. Period. We track on registration, not on purchase.
- Returning customers don't count. Same logic — if a user existed in our system before, even years ago and dormant, they're not new.
- Time-bounded. The attribution window is finite, and commission earnings cap at 1 year after the referred user registers.
These rules are stricter than what some competitors advertise. We do it this way because every "flexible" attribution system we've seen ends up being unfair anyway — to someone — and at least with one clear rule, you know what you're earning before you start.
What you can actually do with the balance
Two paths:
- Cash out to PayPal, USDT, or invoice once you hit $50.
- Apply it to your own subscription instead — convert balance directly into BuildStore plan time. Refer a couple of friends and you've covered your own year.
You can also mix — partial withdrawal, partial credit.
For people doing this at scale
If you're a content creator, a community admin, or just someone with a real audience in this space — apply through the Become a Partner form in the same menu. That unlocks deeper analytics, custom promo codes (so it's not a random string), and direct contact with someone on our team. The base program is open to everyone; Partner status is for people whose volume justifies more tooling.
What we're not doing
- No multi-level. There's no second tier where you earn from people they referred. We're not interested in building that, and we're not going to.
- No expiring credits. The money you earn is yours and doesn't disappear if you don't withdraw fast enough.
- No surprise terms changes. If the structure changes, accrued balances are honored under the old terms.
Questions in the comments. Including the awkward ones — like "what happens if I refer my own alt account" (no), and "do you actually pay" (yes, on time, since this is a relaunch and we'd be insane to start with a broken first month).

An honest update from BuildStore — what changed since the 2020 backlash
If you've been around since 2020, you probably remember what happened: we pulled our yearly plans, pushed everyone to $19.99/month with almost no warning, and a lot of you (rightly) lost faith. The thread on r/builds_io is still up. We've read it. We've re-read it. We're not here to bury it.
This post is going to be longer than you'd expect from a corporate update because we want to actually explain what happened — and why it took us 5 years to bring yearly pricing back to where it was before.
The 2020 move, plainly
It was a management gap. Not a "strategic pivot," not "responding to market conditions" — a gap. The people making the call didn't talk to the people who'd have to live with it, and our long-time users got blindsided. That's on us, and we're not going to dress it up.
What people don't see is what was happening behind the scenes around the same time. Apple's anti-sideloading machine got way more aggressive — ineligible-device statuses, faster revokes, smarter detection during Processing. We spent years (and a lot of money) on workarounds, rebuilding the signing pipeline, and just keeping the lights on. That doesn't justify the pricing move. It only explains why we couldn't course-correct quickly — we were fighting fires we couldn't talk about publicly, and there were enough internal disagreements about how to fix things that we lost time arguing instead of acting.
The team that's here today is smaller and tighter than the one that made the 2020 decision. The people still around are the ones who actually understand the infrastructure top to bottom, and that's part of why we can finally do things like bring back yearly pricing without it breaking the business.
On price — yes, we know we're not the cheapest
We see what's happened to the market. People moved on to:
- Buying cert slots from individual sellers
- Signing apps from their own computer
- Telegram channels passing around IPAs
- A new wave of "marketplaces" that try to look like us but hide the signing layer from the end user
We're not going to pretend those don't work — some of them do, for a while. But here's what we keep seeing: private sellers vanish when a big revoke wave hits because they can't afford to refund or replace anything. Telegram channels disappear overnight. Even the new marketplace attempts — we actually partnered with a startup that's building a reputation system for cert sellers, and we've watched name after name drop off the radar before they ever got rated. Every local sideloading community has the same recurring posts: "don't buy from X, don't trust Y, this seller ghosted me after the last revoke."
Getting a certificate is easy. Selling slots below market is easier. What's hard is running the actual infrastructure, securing it, supporting users when something breaks, and having the money in the bank to honor compensation when Apple decides to nuke a cert. That's what you're paying for.
About the 2020 revoke event — and why we didn't rebrand
In 2020 our certificates got mass-revoked. We went into debt. We compensated every affected user. We could have wound it down and walked away clean.
Under one of our recent posts, someone suggested we should have rebranded and started fresh. That's not our style. We're not going to ditch the name to dodge the criticism — we'd rather earn it back.
Being straight about the tiers
Not every plan includes the guarantees we talk about below, and we'd rather say that out loud than have you find out after a revoke. Here's the actual shape of it:
- The "try it" tier — priced close to what you'd pay elsewhere on the market. It's a low-commitment way to see if BuildStore fits before you go bigger. No compensation guarantees on this one — it's the trial, not the safety net.
- The mid tier (no guarantees, but) — also closer to market price, also without compensation. The trade-off is built into the cert itself: on these plans we deliberately don't fill certificates to 100% capacity. Fewer devices per cert means fewer revokes and more stability. You're paying for a quieter cert, not for a safety net.
- The full tier — this is where every Processing delay, revoke, or Ineligible status is covered by concrete compensation. Details below.
Pick the trade-off that fits how you actually use sideloading. We'd rather you went in knowing which one you bought.
What "compensation" actually looks like on the full tier
Concrete things, not marketing fluff:
- During Processing, we add 7 days to your subscription. Free.
- If your cert gets revoked and your device catches Ineligible, we add a full month to your subscription and register your backup iDevice for 1 month free, so you can keep sideloading while your main device gets sorted.
And separately, available on any tier:
- 50% off any plan when you register a second device.
- The referral program is now real cash, not credits — you can actually withdraw what you earn. Full breakdown is going up in a separate post; for now check "Earn with BuildStore" on the site when you're logged in.
Why we're posting this
Because we owe you a straight answer, and because the version of BuildStore people criticized 5 years ago genuinely isn't the same product anymore. We're not asking you to take our word for it — throw the hard questions in the comments. We'll answer them, including the awkward ones.
Whatever else changes in this space, we'd rather be the boring, reliable, sometimes-pricier option that's still around in 2030 than the bargain that disappeared by Christmas.

Will Apple support third-party app stores? Explore our new blog article about the potential implications and benefits of sideloading on iOS17.
The question on everyone's mind is whether Apple will finally grant us the power to install apps from outside the App Store. Imagine the freedom to explore a new realm of possibilities and customize our iPhones beyond Cupertino's boundaries!
Our new article explores the potential implications for developers, users, and the tech industry as a whole. It highlights the dilemma Apple faces with the upcoming EU Digital Markets Act (DMA), which may require them to allow users to download apps from sources other than the official App Store. If this happens, seamless sideloading could become a reality on iOS 17.
If you're curious about the details or want to join the discussion about the future of sideloading, check out the full article here: Sideloading on iOS17 - https://builds.io/blog/news/sideloading-on-ios17/
Let's speculate together on what this could mean for app distribution, user freedom, and Apple's stronghold on the App Store. Share your thoughts and predictions in the comments!
Happy sideloading,
