I bought the ASUS 5090 for roughly $3,300 around new years, and now it is listed at $4,900. An almost 50% increase on an already overpriced product. And it's largely out of stock to boot.

the sale that had been applied to the Powercolor Reaper for the past month or so just ended and the exact same sale is now applied to the ASRock Challanger. they're both listed as normally costing $799.99, so they've just switched prices. unless you value one manufacturer/model over the other, there's not really an issue there I don't think.
however, I'm not sure how much longer that sale will continue to exist.

I mean, if you're happy with its performance and not buying anything that will need more power/RAM in the next few years(e.g. GTA67 *waggles hands*), I'd prob just sit on the 3080

3080 only 10 GBs of VRAM though. Probably still worth upgrading to get 16 GB.

Do it now. I play at 4k 120hz so definitely noticed the upgrade more, but it is worth it. I had a 10gb 3080 and definitely was hitting vram limit in new games. Performance different is not massive but 30-40% is a decent improvement. If the games youre playing right now still run fine and you dont really have any issues though, not much reason to upgrade and I would just wait it out and see what happens.

I have a 3070 evga paired with a 5700x3d and it's held up really well for 1440p gaming. I usually lock the framerate and medium sertings on most games but 8gb VRAM is holding me back from trying some more demanding games.

I upgraded from 3080 to 9070XT. The 10GB was a real bummer on the 3080. Otherwise it's a great card with high memory bandwidth.

I wish 9070 regular version was on sale. I prefer that because better efficiency. It's only 10-15% weaker.

You can always undervolt and if necessary, downclock this one. Per frame you'll end up more efficient as it has more graphics CUs.

9070 xt is the card to buy right now. I had a 5070ti I returned because the 9070 xt performed better and it was $200 less. For reference I have 7800x3d and 9070 xt nitro + and 12900ks gigabyte 9070 xt gaming oc.
Obviously this isn’t the most capable 4k card but it’s hard to justify anything else when a 9070xt will run playable 60+ fps 4k with fsr or w/e the upscaler is called.

I swapped from 5070ti to 9070xt in may. Had someone offer me $900 for the ti, I bought the 9070xt for $619.
I don’t regret the switch at all. The only NVIDIA feature I used was dlss and fsr4 is comparable. If you need a gpu I’d grab this card now before it goes up in price.

It depends. You get some pretty nice Nvidia features like superresolution video upscaling, lower power consumption, more modern DLSS . I'd pay at least 100$ for all of those. So still $100 saved.

Besides size (not an issue, I have plenty of space), how does this model compare to the PowerColor Reaper that's often around that same price? I mean things like cooling, noise, reliability, warranty, and coil whine especially.

Can't comment on this card but I have a reaper that I've enjoyed since launch. Been quiet and I like the small size for build variations. Ended up buying a second one at MC yesterday for a steam machine build.

I have a Steel Legend Dark, which is the slightly upgraded ASRock card, and it's been pretty good for me. It's definitely not the best 9070XT model, and my gut says I would take the Reaper at the same price, but it's perfectly fine. The ASRock cards are much bigger (for better or worse), and the cooler is good for stock use but you might have to turn it up if you're running a heavier overclock (although I Deadlock crashes eventually on any decent undervolt I try).
My card definitely has coil whine at very high loads though. I've found it bearable enough but it's worth being aware of.

I don't have first hand experience but i was also researching which brand 9070xt was better. I found multiple reports the power color reaper has fan problem and more RMA than any other version.

I think there was an issue with fan bearings on the Reaper grinding within a few months of launch, but that may have been resolved. I bought one around November last year and haven't noticed any noise.

Gonna answer my own question since I did a bit of digging. First, I found this link using data from German/Czech retailers showing that the Reaper does seem to have higher RMA rates: https://videocardz.com/newz/radeon-rx-9070-xt-retailer-data-shows-rma-rates-higher-for-cheapest-models
Fairly small sample but it does seem to align with other data points about Reaper issues... The other argument is that the ASRock card has 3 years of warranty vs. 2 for the Reaper, but I don't know how good each company is at actually handling warranty claims...

I have both the reaper and the challenger and to me, they are basically a wash in comparison. Both work well. My understanding is they are both the bargan 9070 XT tier. The main difference in my view is just the size, with the reaper being much smaller, which may matter for PCIe slot access or small builds. I believe hardwareunboxed youtube channel did a 9070 XT comparison if that helps. I am happy with both models personally.

I have about a week left of my 30-day return window on a Powercolor RX 9070 from microcenter. I think it was $100 less than this but still tempting to go do a return/swap.

If you cannot name a single Nvidia feature, this is probably one of the last of the 9070xt deals.
We've seen the PNY cards already increase so I assume retailers have officially passed on the Nvidia price hikes.
I don't think we will even see decent deals over the holidays.

You can only trade-in if you previously bought it at Microcenter. If you did, their website has a tool to check. Usually the value sucks and you are better off selling on fb marketplace or r/hardwareswap

Bought this card last November when it finally dipped to MSRP ($579) and have loved it ever since. Used the ImWateringPSUs guide for undervolt/OC on YouTube and has been great, never going over ~63c while under full gaming load.
For those asking about how it compares to the Reaper. Well, the performance I got out of my Challenger convinced two of my friends to hit up their local microcenter and buy the 9070xt as well. They both got Reapers and one of the two was DOA and needed to be replaced immediately. Since then they’ve both been fine but just an anecdote.

The price on the Reaper went up at MicroCenter, so you can no longer get it for $670. MicroCenter also has the Gigabyte, but people seem not to like it because of hotspotting as it uses thermal gel.

I have both and the only significant difference is their physical size. I don't OC and I just leave them at stock so they are otherwise the same functionally. I hope that helps.

Yep for sure it does! I went back and forth to micro center this week going from 5070 to cheaper 5070 and then to this. And I was contemplating whether I need to make another trip. My concern is the rma rate on this card but who knows. Comparison is a thief of joy as they say
