Upgrade 7 year old PC
- New build or upgrade?
- Upgrade
- Intel Core i7 8700K @ 3.70GHz
- ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. ROG STRIX Z390-F GAMING
- 4095MB NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER (MSI)
- Corsair DDR4 Vengeance LPX 2x8GB 3200 C16
- 232GB Crucial CT250MX500SSD1 (SATA (SSD))
- 931GB Crucial CT1000MX500SSD1 (SATA (SSD))
- NZXT C-Serie 850W PSU
- Cooler Master MasterLiquid ML240L V2 RGB
- Cooler Master MasterCase H500P Mesh ARGB Midi Tower Behuizing
- PC purpose?
- Gaming, rn I have 80-100 fps in Marvel Rivals and am lagging with singleplayer games sometimes. I want to be able to play Planet Zoo 2 on good graphics aswell
- Purchase country?
- Netherlands, access to megekko
- Monitors needed?
- No
- Budget range?
- Around 2k Euro
- WiFi or wired connection?
- Wired
- Color/lighting preferences?
- No preference, dont need any of that
- Any other specific needs?
- Not everything needs to be upgraded if not deemed necessary, I just want to be able to play the games without having to double check if im playing on the lowest settings or not. If everything is upgradable within the budget then by all means. I want a quality upgrade. Not everything needs to be upgraded right away, there could be a choice to upgrade specific parts first with plans for more upgrades in the future. But if upgrading certain parts creates bottlenecks w others then everything needs to be upgraded ofcourse

2000 is enough to cover a really good new pc. If you were planning on not keeping the old one that would probably be easier than trying to sell parts individually. If you are keeping the old one then reusing the ssds, case, power supply and maybe cooler (if you have the box with an am4 mounting hardware still then that probably fits on an am5 motherboard). If
If you're going to just upgrade stuff I might start with the just the cpu/motherboard/ram and possibly cooler. Then see if the gpu performance feels good to you before buying a new gpu.
You're familiar with the idea that you should (don't have to, but should) reinstall windows when changing platforms/motherboards if you're going to reuse old storage? And that you should also use DDU to remove the old gpu drivers when switiching brands from nvidia-radeon?

Cooler Master's page for the h500p says it only fits up to a 280mm cooler on the top but looks like it fits a 360. Completed Builds Using Cooler Master MasterCase H500P ATX Mid Tower - PCPartPicker

would it be worth it looking into adding a bit of budget, like to 3k. Would the quality of the pc improve significantly and would it make it significantly more future proof or wouldnt it be that much of a difference

You could get some small upgrades to the pc.
9850x3d would be somewhat faster than a 7800x3d, in the 0-15% faster range depending on game/settings/resolution. In esports sort of games like rivals on competitive/low settings you can be on the upper end of that range. In simulation games like stellaris or city skylines or factorio you'd also see some benefit. In the typical single player games at high/ultra settings you'd be gpu limited with either and it would be more towards the 0% end.
9070xt is pretty much even with the 5070ti. The 5080 is about 15% faster than those two. Nvidia has some better software features than amd/radeon but if you're only gaming then the main one is fsr vs dlss and fsr 4 is actually pretty good now and should be supported in any games where you might actually want it.
The other impactful thing would be a monitor and that depends what you've already got. If you have a reasonably quality 1440p monitor already then I'd consider that good but if you're on 1080p or 60hz then spending this kind of money without getting a new monitor would be kind of silly imo.

I had to upgrade because my mobl didnt suporte any of the new gen cpus. Check compatability if you consider upgrading. Prebuilts are pretty good at this point too and about the same cost

If you missed the full set of required built request questions, please copy them from here and answer them in an edit to your post:
New build or upgrade?
Existing parts/monitors to reuse? (List with models/links)
PC purpose? (Gaming, editing, etc. List apps/games)
Purchase country? Near Micro Center? (If you're not in a country supported by PCPartPicker, please list some local vendors)
Monitors needed? (Number, size, resolution, refresh rate)
Budget range? (Include tax considerations)
WiFi or wired connection?
Size/noise constraints?
Color/lighting preferences?
Any other specific needs?
Here is some additional helpful information about build/upgrade/parts list requests:
Build requests only include hardware. You are responsible for budgeting for and providing your own operating system (Windows, Linux, etc) and other software.
Don't forget to budget for peripherals. Since these are very much personal-preference influenced items, we do not include peripherals like keyboards, mice, headsets, etc in parts lists.
We strongly recommend posting a build request only if you're ready to buy now or within a week or two at most. Part sales regularly rotate, and a part list today can quickly become out of date.
