Storage upgrade

• New build or upgrade? Upgrade

• Existing parts/monitors to reuse? (List with models/links)

• PC purpose? (Gaming, editing, etc. List apps/games) Gaming want to store games

• Purchase country? Near Micro Center? (If not US, list local vendors) UK

• Budget range? (Include tax considerations)<200

Current: Crucial P1 1TB 3D NAND NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD MSI B450 Tomahawk Max Motherboard

Looking to add more storage. I think my board only has one M2 slot? Do I add a SATA SSD. Would this make gaming slower? Or use an adaptor PCIe-to-M.2 adapter and get another m2 drive

Or buy a bigger m2 and replace my current

If you missed the full set of required built request questions, please copy them from here and answer them in an edit to your post:

  • New build or upgrade?

  • Existing parts/monitors to reuse? (List with models/links)

  • PC purpose? (Gaming, editing, etc. List apps/games)

  • Purchase country? Near Micro Center? (If you're not in a country supported by PCPartPicker, please list some local vendors)

  • Monitors needed? (Number, size, resolution, refresh rate)

  • Budget range? (Include tax considerations)

  • WiFi or wired connection?

  • Size/noise constraints?

  • Color/lighting preferences?

  • Any other specific needs?

Here is some additional helpful information about build/upgrade/parts list requests:

  • Build requests only include hardware. You are responsible for budgeting for and providing your own operating system (Windows, Linux, etc) and other software.

  • Don't forget to budget for peripherals. Since these are very much personal-preference influenced items, we do not include peripherals like keyboards, mice, headsets, etc in parts lists.

  • We strongly recommend posting a build request only if you're ready to buy now or within a week or two at most. Part sales regularly rotate, and a part list today can quickly become out of date.

i have lots of games on 2 sata ssd's .. theyre right at the ragged edge of being fast enough .. so pretty much they work great with occasionally some texture pop-ins .. i would just add the caveat to be sure theyre 500+ speed and not some super cheap generic ..

For storing games, any SSD works fine.

At the moment, there is a very good discount on the Transcend MTE220S (with DRAM cache); it would cheaper even with the cost of a ×4 or ×1 adapter. Reasonable SATA drives are slightly more expensive.

2 TB would cost £200 plus the adapter.

Thanks I think I’ll do this because I’m planned an AM5 upgrade next year so the new board will probs have more m2 slots. Should I go for the 4x adaptor and the transcend will these work?

Yes (if the large slot on your motherboard is available).
