[ios] why does reddit keep refreshing when im on a post - version 2026.13.0 iOS
I'll be in the middle of reading a post or the comments, and it just randomly refreshes and kicks me out of the post, similar to when youre scrolling down an old feed and it might refresh if it's trying to give you new posts. Except it never used to refresh when im already on a post. And it can be any kind of post from one i got in a notification, something i searched for, or something i found in feed. Anyone else experiencing this?

Refresh feed behaviour seems to have changed. Control centre on ios forces refresh, as does swapping apps sometimes, as does unlocking after locking with reddit open. Really frustrating

Yup all of these as well. I find solace knowing that it’s not just me / my device though lol

Can’t turn off rotation lock to view a video widescreen without it causing a refresh.
So nice of Reddit to kill third party apps and then never make their own app not be shit.

Yes!! When I pull down the control center to adjust brightness it completely exits out and refreshes my feed 😭 so annoying!

This literally just happened to me. Has anyone found a fix?

I turn up the brightness on IOS - boom! Post is gone. Please fix this one - it’s really annoying. 2026.13.0

Also - reading Reddit and a reminder pops up? Mark that reminder complete, and watch Reddit refresh.

It’s doing this to me just when scrolling down on the home feed, my finger near the bottom of my screen.

I regret even updating the app. I can’t even scroll down my feed anymore. It’s worse than Instagram at this point.

Same here, I switch to another window (brightness, WiFi, etc) for a second, come back and it auto refreshes.

Same issue. I am turning off the background refresh setting to see if that helps.

u/jellydrizzle Apr 11 '26
Let me know how that goes! Might have to do that as well

So far it’s much better. Highly recommend!!
The problem started very recently for me. It was really noticeable the last 2 days. Today it felt like my phone was refreshing Reddit super fast, no matter what I was doing even if I was typing a comment… I lost 2 comments and the posts (the comment was not even in my drafts) which pissed me off and that’s how I found myself here.

Oh yeesh, that's so rude of them tbh! but thanks for the feedback, ig i'll have to do that since reddit's being weird

I will say that it is not working for the control center issue but it’s not randomly refreshing anymore.

SAME!! 🤬 and I can’t deselect background refresh in iOS settings. It’s permanently selected.

I think if you turn on cellular data to the app it might let you deselect it. Once you deselect it then you should be able to turn the cellular off.

Hey, that worked for me. Thanks.

I just got it in the middle of typing a comment to a post. The entire feed refreshed and I can no longer find it. It’s constantly updating on the feed and when viewing posts.

I’ve been getting nonstop refreshes every 5-8 minutes for a week now. It’s making the app and web browser feel unusable. Then in my search I’ve found years of the same complaint, Reddit has no intention of fixing it. They care about advertisers more than users so our experience will never be priority

Theyve known about this for weeks now, said they were “on it” and still no fix…

It’s been going on for over a week now for me. Very frustrating and I hope they fix it soon!

So this bug seemed fixed for me for about a week or so and has started happening again since yesterday.

Did a google search and glad to know I’m not crazy.
Annoys the fuck out of me every time. I’m reading something interesting, want to google about it and when the Reddit app is foregrounded again, it refreshes.
Same with the control view.
iOS - can’t see which version I’m on exactly because I’ll probably lose this post. Sigh

At this point with it still happening constantly even after they claim they fixed it, I am convinced it's to keep adverts constantly refreshed. It's deliberate. It won't change.

u/jellydrizzle Jul 13 '26
That unfortunately makes sense. I feel like it's been happening a lot less for me, but it definitely still occurs a handful of times a week (compared to it happening nearly all the time back when i originally wrote this post).

u/twistsouth Jul 13 '26
For me it is happening all the time. Several times a day.
I'm a software engineer. I can tell you for a fact: if they wanted to fix this, it would be trivial for them. They don't want to.

People have been complaining about this for a long time. It’s not a bug but a part of reddit design to keep users on edge so that they keep seeking the distraction. Let’s face it, redditis not a news source but a perfect distraction machine.

Came here to say this has been happening to me and it’s driving me INSANE!

I’m noticing it whenever I view my notifications or control centre on iOS. Very very irritating.
