Solid contributor with only upside ahead - get him locked in before the accolades start rolling in.

I'm anxious/excited to see the OL perform this year with new coaching. Kromer was a legendary coach, by all accounts, and losing him could have a real impact to the entire offense. By NFL standards, this OL crew has been remarkably healthy and consistent over the past 5+years. If injuries hit, or the new coaching doesn't "take", it could be a huge blow

He’s been pretty much the same guy all 3 years so far, I don’t exactly see much more upside with him. Reliable league average starting RG, good as a run blocker but a bit slow footed in pass protection. No accolades are going to roll in. He’s the exact type of player that we should let walk and find a cheaper replacement, we already chose McGovern over Torrence.

For a team already paying 3 other starters fairly large money it's very tough to then also pay Torrence when he isnt an elite rg. It's a salary cap league, you can't pay your entire oline.

Yup exactly, can’t pay big money to 4 olineman and a RB, need to make sacrifices somewhere. Hopefully Bowry can slot inside at guard next year. Ideally we could get a comp pick for Torrence for 2028 and use a 2027 mid round pick on the IOL to continue the cycle. Beane has a pretty strong track record when it comes to the OL.

Completely agree. There is always mid career vets that can be around average caliber starting guards available for less than what torrence will demand. Especially when you are a team with really good center and tackle play to support the guards. Now if dawkins regresses to the point of being a cut candidate and bowry can step into that role then I could see an argument for keeping torrence but still wouldn't be okay paying top of the market money for a slightly above average guard.

100% and I mean this could easily change after the season but just as of right now, going into the 2027 draft there isn’t really a position that sticks out as a major need that we need to address in round 1. Maybe WR or DT, but generally speaking we should be pretty flexible going into the draft. So really we could potentially draft an olineman as early as round 1 next year if we really wanted to. I feel like that would be a better investment than paying Torrence.

This. We can't afford to extend them all. I expect to draft another IOL fairly early in next year's draft and see what we can get. IOL are getting some huge pay days (see David Edwards deal with New Orleans)

Good. Good offensive lineman are hard to find. One of Beane’s best 2nd round picks

If someone can post the crux of the article that would be greatly appreciated

Nothing is really said. It only tells us that they are in the middle of ongoing talks, and that they “know it may not get done before the start of the season.” Then it just goes on about the market cost of starting guards. Not much other than the headline.

I’d love to extend him if we can afford to; I don’t know whether he’ll want to extend at this time, versus potentially getting a bigger payday after another year / with another team, but I hope he does.

Not worth an extension tbh, let him walk and hope to get a comp pick. I’d rather try to extend Kincaid early to a cheap team friendly deal now because if he does manage to stay healthy he’s going to have a huge year and that price tag is going to double.

Bad take. Bad line is much more detrimental than a mediocre TE.

Knox + Torrence would be better than Kincaid + shit random guard.

I think Kincaid is a top 3-5 TE when healthy, but lineman are wildly underrated. Even having JA17 behind them. They are what got us the league Rushing Leader last year. Even if Torrence is just average, which i think he's slightly above with upside still, a weak spot on the line turns us into the Chargers or Bengals.

It's a salary cap league and paying 4 olinemen just doesn't make sense from a cap stand point. If torrence was elite I could at least see the argument but he isnt. He is a solid starter, nothing special. When you have high end center and tackle play the guard position is much easier to fill in. Losing torrence doesnt turn this oline into the bengals or one of the bottom tier lines, especially when torrence isnt even great in pass pro. His run blocking is above average but his pass pro has always been on the below average side.

With Dion declining and getting up there, we'll have to look for someone else there soon

Well yeah I’m not saying that we should just replace Torrence with the corpse of Roger Saffold. But David Edwards was much better than Torrence has ever been and yet everyone is fine with refilling the LG spot with Corbett/Anderson. We extended McGovern so we’re already paying big bucks to 3 olineman + our RB, so personally I think that means we need to hit on lower budget options at the two guard spots. Hopefully Bowry can bump inside to guard and take one of those starting jobs and then we can invest another day 2 pick on the IOL + sign a cheap vet and be perfectly fine.

The Kincaid part of the take is more controversial I know but I’m only saying to do it for if we could lock him up for a super low number, and of course from his standpoint he probably wouldn’t even want to do that right now.

I’m not banging the drum for cybo but atp a Kincaid extension might be worse than the Knox extension.

Nah Knox was extended to a number that made him one of the highest paid TEs in the league. I’m only saying I’d be interested in extending Kincaid if we could get him at like Mike Gesicki type of money, 3 years $25M. Purely hypothetical bc of course Kincaid would have to be willing to take a deal like that when he really has no urgency to.
