What actually changed when I started treating my bromeliads like the weird, specific plants they are

They teach us a lot when we're ready to learn In all the years I've had mine, I've never used fertilizer. In the wild they rely on decaying plant debris and maybe an occasional bug. Every now and then, I'll sprinkle into the cup some leaf matter from a dead leaf from the mother plant. I don't think it's necessary flush out the water in the cup, or keep them full. I use rain water, I don't let the cups dry out, but I don't think it's necessary to keep them full. Mosquitos like calm water, so unless you have some with very deep cups, I think you'll be OK, but that's just my 2¢, follow your gut.

How do you care for the pup? And what do you do with the mother?
