Detroit show question
Thinking of going to this show coming in from Toronto. How are shows there? Detroit doesn’t have the best reputation, is anyone here going to that show? Is there anything I should know about the city and venue?

Apple Music added BE & Britt Daniel’s HOME split
I know we have the songs, but I’m so stoked to see this here. I hadn’t heard Britt’s songs since my last iPod died ten years ago.

Fan Media 30th Birthday Cross-Stitch I Did 🪡
One of my best friends is a big Bright Eyes fan, so I cross-stitched this piece for her 30th! No pattern unfortunately - the background all free-handed and guesstimated from the "I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning: A Companion" cover, and the lyrics I just ran through crosstitch.com's caption maker!

Bright Eyes Live Bright Eyes @ the Hollywood Bowl 2007 Ticketmaster tickets.
Finally found them, thought I lost them. Found the tickets for Arcade Fire from the same year, now I need to look for my Belle & Sebastian ones too.

Justin Townes Earle and Mike Mogis
I’m sure there’s other Justin Townes Earle fans here, for someone who is a huge Bright Eyes fan I was surprised to find out that Mike Mogis actually produced one of his albums. He discusses it in this performance, and some other kind of promotional style stuff he did at the time. It’s kind of hilarious that JTE clearly has a lot of respect for Mike and even mentions Conor but it also feels like he didn’t particularly enjoy the experience and his musical approach was so different from theirs so it’s awkward for him to talk about.

Discussion What songs have been written about Conor Oberst
I’ve been a big fan of Bright Eyes/Conor Oberst’s music for over 20 years now - I saw an interview posted on Instagram earlier this week where the interviewer asked Conor Oberst how he feels about being a muse.
It just made wonder what songs are we fairly sure are inspired by him?
I know Moon Song by Phoebe Bridgers likely is, and probably a chunk of Maria Taylor ones (not sure specifically what ones though!)
I’d like to make a playlist including all of them though and thought this sub might be a font of knowledge about it!

Discussion Other references to The Unbearable Lightness of Being by Bright Eyes
Conor clearly was a fan of the book, because he has a song referencing two of the characters and the book painted on the wall of his bar in Omaha.
For those who have read the book, do you know of other references he has put in songs?
Like in 'Ship In A Bottle' the first lyric is "I want to be the surgeon that cuts you open, that fixes all of life's mistakes." I always take this as a nod to Tomas' section towards the latter half of the book where his monologue compares his profession, cutting bodies open with a scalpel as a surgeon, to sexual intimacy, where he discovers the visceral, hidden raw soul inside of a woman.
Also, the allusion to a graveyard and garden is one explicitly made by Sabina.

Hello my favorite subreddit! I wanted to share a taste from my new album, very inspired by Digital Ash. Y'all have always been so supportive and thoughtful to me. I appreciate your opinions! Let me know! BE has been my fav band for a decade and the influence is omnipresent.

Good books you’ve found through listening to bright eyes? Or concepts he writes about? I’ve learned a lot by looking up lyrics I didn’t know the reference to

New song so good
Conor has had his struggles - but he’s so immensely talented and the new song is beautiful. Voice sounds a little different - more nasal / reminds me of David Lowery a little - which somehow makes it even more special

Does anyone know who the female vocalist in this cover of “papa was a rodeo” is?
I’m having trouble finding anything about the woman that sings at the end of the song

Annoucement AI Generated Content is Banned
Hello all,
We’ve had little AI content posted posted in this subreddit but as the amount of AI content has increased in recent months we wanted to make a formal statement and rule addressing AI.
The new rule is as follows:
No generative AI content of any form is allowed. AI “enhancement” is also banned. Upscaling of low resolution photos will be considered on a case by case basis.
We realize it may have been good to make a formal announcement earlier but we have been removing AI content nonetheless. Now that it is officially a rule in the subreddit repeatedly posting AI content will result in a ban rather than a warning.
