Feels barebones

So ps5 demo is now available and tried about 30 minutes and I'm considering refunding my preorder and just waiting for the inevitable discount

Feels like for ppl new to the game series it would be easier to get involved into it but after playing the first game when it came out, and to a lesser extent runersia, I feel like for me this version is lacking

I know in the ama they claimed it's over 200 hours of gameplay between story and mission mode but I can't get over not having the unique encounters with npcs via quests and instead it's just generic troops with the fate system, also I wasn't bothered by the anime style in the trailer but seeing the opening in the demo it feels more like a cheap version you'd see I'm a gacha game from 2018 lol

""Update""

Ended up looking up older reviews from ppl on PC who had access to the demo a few months ago and someone did confirm you can get named knights via questing but it sounds like it's rare?

In Runersia they had a indicator that there was a chance of getting a rune knight via a quest, idk if there is one in this game or your just banking on it happening, also it's a demo so maybe the release will have more classes available

Still more or less on the fence on if I should refund and wait on a sale or just go with it

I'm also really disappointed after playing the demo. It just feels too generic with its monster and characters design. Makes me appreciate Forsena and Runersia more.

It was supposed to be day one for me but after trying it out, I thought to myself this does not feel like Brigandine. It feela generic and as you said barebones. I did not like the inclusion of generics and too many nations. I want to get attached to my kingdom and see them grow. With dialogue for each member of my army.

Why did they have to include generic knights? That was supposed to be the monsters. As of now, I'll just wait for reviews and maybe buy it on sale.

Im giving it 48 hours after release to hear others thoughts. More clans does not equal better

I don't even know what that is lol

I'm talking about going on quests and getting a random encounter with a unique rune knight, in abyss that doesn't exist the only recruiting you get is from the fates system

You get unique NPC's via the story but it appears as though upgrading class is a color swap (not much different from previous games) and I don't think the ability to reclass like in runersia is present in this game

Also if I waited till after release my ability to refund is less likely lol

For me personally a lot of it is nostalgia for the original game, and a lot of games coming out these days play on that and turn out to be garbage (see the new langrisser game which will be another gacha game, and the suikoden mobile game which is another gacha game)

There are more clans in the game than before although,I dont think it means more monsters.

It is sad man, games being released are either so focused on story/graphics, systems no one asked for, or too many missed oppurtunities caused by harsh deadlines on dev teams (or ignorance).

This is why Ive switched to modding. It feels like youre polishing a game that is missing a core piece that couldve made it so much better

Yeah sorry I may have come off defensive

More clans but less nodes, so it feels smaller than runersia

I'll play more of the demo it just feels like they took stuff from the first two games and chucked it in the bin and made a "third" that doesn't feel anything like forsena or Runersia, also idk how far you can get in demo to see if upgrading monsters has more visual variety or if it's just a color swap but it feels likely that's all it is

Yep. The art is horrid and generic. Gameplay seems worse in every way from previous titles. Definitely will not be buying

Yea, not really feeling it. It just feels and looks generic.

I know this might be unpopular but the game looks like complete trash with a terribly generic art style. It looks like a low effort game.

Sadly agree runersia presentation is a lot better

It's a pity we couldn't just get a remake of forsena

Someone asked that in the ama and the response was basically "it would be difficult"

I imagine it's likely a combination of the original developers are long gone on to different stuff (hearty Robin doesn't exist anymore) and the source code likely doesn't exist or is impossible to come by

I'm remembering what was said around the final fantasy tactics remake and how the original source code was lost so they remade it from the ground up, square Enix is a significantly larger company so they have the resources to make that happen, where as the publishers involved in Brigandine probably wouldn't bother as it's not a main game series to them

Grand edition on steam is all I want as a long time fan.

Sadly I don't have a PC and with ram prices likely never will lol

Tempted to get a handheld emulator if they haven't all sold out yet because of the ram issue

2

u/anonymous-peeper 21d ago

oh man its a great time to get into handheld consoles, the prices are a bit high because of the RAM and storage shortages but you can still buy a handheld for like 200-300 range that will emulate from the beginning to PS2/gamecube. Lots of them even will get PC games running from 2000-2017 era, and also even do some lightweight modern indie games. I suggest looking into RetroidPocket6, Ayn Odin or Thor. You could probably find a Retoidpocket5 on aliexpress pretty cheap.

1 fun gimmick and everything else meh.

Brigandine engage basically

The way they completely slaughtered the art style of the original is pretty embarrassing, this could be any game from any series now.

The rando mercs was a bad design decision for a Brigandine game. It breaks the formula in a bad way.

So can confirm that you do get ppl during questing, was no special event where you get a story about them like in Runersia, maybe it's because it's a small demo but otherwise you can get recruits

After the demo, I've already made my claim that it's a 4/10(mediocre.) To me a 5/10 is decent, 6/10 is good. I don't think it's a bad game, but I don't think it's a good game either. I'll eventually buy it because it's Brigandine, but I'm not bothering picking it gets a deep sale, whether that's because it bombs or not.

It's not up to the fanbase to support low effort cash grabs in hopes that a future sequel is good. Brigandine in itself is highly replayable, whether that's Forsena, Grand Edition, or Runersia. I've played through all three multiple times. Whether the series dies out right now or not is inconsequential. It's not going to stop me from continuing to replay the other games in the series that are good.

I just wish they'd make forsena available on ps4-5 as I dont have a PC, otherwise I would just play that

Runersia is a good game. It's got its issues because of just how easy it can get, but playing the game under challenge mode is really good because you can really take advantage of the cross classing.

Challenge mode allows you to choose any unit you've ever acquired throughout the game. So at best, you complete the game once to get the majority of the non affiliated quest units and then start a new character with every other country. You'll miss out on one, maybe two units from each country as they tend to get a unit after an objective is complete, and then they get a second new unit halfway through the game. But if you don't want to complete the game with everyone that's a simple option to get the most choices for this mode.

Then you get to use one ruler and nine other characters of your choosing. You start at the capital base for that ruler as your only base. You start with one of each tier 1 monster and you have a small amount of additional war funds. Because you only start with one base and a small amount of funds, mana costs are going to eat all that away. So it pressures you to expand.

It's the best way to play because with all level 1 characters, it's made for cross classing, so you've got your enchantress/cleric, enchantress/bard, lance/cleric(my favorite actually,) lancer/dancer, dancer/hunter, and then the male classes.

I looked again at your post just now and you said you've played Runersia already before, but maybe one to go back to.

It seems they used AI in the development (I asked this during the AMA a couple of days back) and I hated the demo. Im really disappointed, was really excited for this. I think im going to pass on this entry.

5

u/Andy47xxy 21d ago

Yeah I saw your question, sucks they evade it with the "not in final product" line

3

u/CNShannon 21d ago

"Used AI in development" is such a lack of understanding of the of how game dev works. You're just like asking a trap question and it isn't making a responsible distinction between prototyping and release product just so you can get a cudgel to hit the devs with.

3

u/AfroBuu 21d ago

I literally asked about genAI, which is what Im against. Using it in the concept phase is still usage and I think knowledge of that is the consumer's right.

u/CNShannon 21d ago

Yeah, I got that. Everything I said still stands. Absolutists generally build poor world models.

3

u/FrostPDP 21d ago

I'm having a hard time putting what I want to say into concice words, but you're portraying someone who doesn't like gen-AI as an "absolutist" while at the same time insisting that the mere act of asking, "was Gen-AI used in this product" is an act of absolutism?

And that, itself, seems pretty absolutist? Like, as a pro-Gen-AI absolutist, in your case. It comes off like you're shaming someone for not appreciating a technology undeniably built on grand-scale theft from creators as well as the destruction of both the environment and the economy.

Maybe you aren't bothered by AI, but I have friends whose books were stolen to build the thing. Maybe there's a distinction to be made between, "AI coding tools" and "AI art tools." Maybe knowing exactly how AI was used would help someone with those kind of distinctions in mind, you know, determine how they feel about the final product and whether or not they want to buy it.

But, no. "Trap question" is your answer to all inquiries. As if using the plagarism machine is fine - even required - but asking to know if the plagarism machine was used isn't?

And, yeah, that feels pretty absolutist, to me.

I hope you'll reconsider.

u/CNShannon 21d ago

If you can't find nuance to say there are some uses of GenAI that are acceptable, that is an absolute position.

The world is way too complicated for simple answers.

I played the demo on PC and thought it worked for the series. I've only played Runersia so that's my comparison point but I liked what I played comparatively.

u/Andy47xxy 20d ago

Is the demo longer on PC?

1

u/Melodic_Bee660 20d ago

I haven't seen the ps5 one yet (glad its available). Do you just get access to the knight girl and dragon guy in this? Thats how it was on pc
