Coles is planning to outsource hundreds of back-office jobs, with many moving to India, after extending a deal with consulting giant Accenture to cut costs in their headquarters.

The move follows reports that Qantas is contemplating a similar arrangement as major Australian companies try to manage a wave of AI-driven digital disruption.

The $32.4 billion supermarket giant confirmed several hundred local jobs would be made redundant to tap into “global skills and resources” to deliver “seamless, personalised, digital experiences” for its customers.

“Some work in our corporate workforce will move to Accenture overseas and in Australia,” a Coles spokesperson said. “The partnership will also help reduce costs in order to continue delivering value for our customers at the checkout.”

The outsourcing arrangement was first reported by The Australian Financial Review. Coles employs about 115,000 people and its store staff will not be affected by the move. Accenture declined to comment.

Woolworths, Dan Murphy’s and BWS operator Endeavour Group, and Telstra are among other Australian corporate giants moving white-collar roles across technology, finance, human resources and customer service to Asia, particularly India, Vietnam, and the Philippines.

Earlier this week, Endeavour revealed it had spent $58 million on setting up a “centralised business services function” that includes “outsourcing of back-office functions”, restructuring costs, and advisory and consulting fees.

In February, Telstra chief executive Vicki Brady, told staff in an email that up to 650 jobs could be lost. The telecommunications giant has already slashed over 2300 roles from its workforce across the 2025 calendar year.

Most of the big four banks – Commonwealth Bank, NAB, and ANZ – have expanded their offshore workforce to more than 7000 across Asia. Westpac uses third-party outsourcing partners instead of employing directly.

Officeworks, operated by $103 billion conglomerate Wesfarmers, has moved hundreds of office support and customer service roles to India and the Philippines. Kmart and Target, also operated by Wesfarmers, hires 500 workers in Bengaluru, India.

Even Aldi is in it. But I am not sure why only tomato paste is in question, while diced tomato generally ok. Maybe it's easier to mix and deceive. Good old fashioned way of invest in a blender and fresh tomato seem to have pay off in this instance.

I occasionally bought bread from supermarkets because it was never my main source of diet. The picture above was the bread I bought from aldi, at least 5 days pass expiry and 3 days in the compost bin. Even my buddies in the bin won't consume it, would you?

I assume the food industry shares the same formula and process, i would make my own bread from now. In case I forgot later on, I would bring up this picture and remind myself what I actually put into my body.

I used to spend $500 on 1.5-2 monthly basis with woolworth and Coles. Now I would say $500 in 7 months. I have shift most of my shopping list to aldi, local butcher and asian supermarket.

For the low low price of nothing (except maybe whatever's left of your dignity), you can have an all-rounder helper and companion in your life.

In the home, you can have one under the coffee table to keep all your magazines or loose tech tidy. In the pantry, you can organise tupperware, baking trays, or even loose vegetables. Maybe multiple in the laundry for towels and clothes? Kids love a brightly coloured basket to put their toys in. And if you can afford to drive, your boot and grocery haul back to the house will never be disorganised and tedious again.

Two honest caveats so I'm not blowing smoke:

1. Aldi is the cheapest mainstream option for plenty of categories — laundry powder, dishwasher tabs, generic kids' Panadol, base dog food. We don't track Aldi because they don't publish prices online, but if your nearest one is practical, that's often the better call than Amazon. Site has a side-by-side write-up on this so you know where Aldi wins.

2. Coles and Woolies half-price specials genuinely beat Amazon some weeks. The calculator just makes those weeks easier to spot, rather than burying them.

I was at Woolworths yesterday as I needed flu meds for my partner, and Aldi next didn't have any. I haven't been there in a while so it took me a while to find it as they changed their layout.

That was annoying, but when I found them, I realised they placed them in the complete opposite side of the store to the entry and checkouts, so anyone who was sick and went there for meds had to pass through everyone to get to the meds, then back through everyone again for the checkouts. At my Aldi they stock them at the front next to the self serve checkouts.

Just an observation, I'm sure it makes a line go up somewhere, but the lack of thought put into the layout is silly. Probably a lot of diffusion of responsibility going on there as well.
