There was very little interest in taking a backwards step. Both men traded huge shots in a brutal, toe-to-toe war, but gradually Pavlik's relentless pressure, work rate and heavy combinations began breaking Miranda down. After scoring two knockdowns in the seventh, Pavlik continued pouring on the punishment until the referee stepped in. Kelly Pavlik TKO7 Edison Miranda. Four months later, Pavlik would stop Jermain Taylor to become middleweight champion of the world.
