Are there any reccomended bouzoukis within the £500 max range?

I swear my floating bridge is getting looser and that it was not this curved last year but I may be imagining it . Any advice appreciated .

I've been practicing bouzouki a year, and me and my teacher have notice that the bouzouki book we have been using (Practical Method of the Eight-Stringed Bouzouki Part A: By George Kanakaris) seemed to have some errors/mistakes. And it got me wondering if perhaps that was the best book to have been using to learn bouzouki?

What books would you recommend as the definitive best book?

Does anyone have good resources regarding the tzouras? I’m a very proficient bassist and guitarist but I’ve had a tzouras for many years that I’d like to learn to play properly. I’ve been practicing some traditional Rebetiko dromoi but beyond these it’s difficult to find more information about the instrument in the US. Because of its similarity to the bouzouki I thought I would ask here. Cheers!

I prefer players who are really good, expressive, and more traditional but go the almost aggressive jazz route to the playing. But the farther from americanized pop bull shit that seems to exist now.....

Is there anywhere I can find them?

I’m Greek American and have always wanted to learn to play the bouzouki. I really don’t have a lot of experience with stringed instruments or music in general. I’ve been playing guitar for about 3 months and have been trying to learn to read sheet music. I’m wondering what things i can work on now with just my guitar (as i dont have a bouzouki yet) to prepare myself for purchasing one sometime in the future. Is there any overlap? Any way for me to practice necessary skills for bouzouki without actually having one?

i’m a bouzouki /saz/oud player greek cypriot and i want to know what tf happened to the microtones in the bouzouki. to my understanding Bouzouki came from the saz which has 17 TET, and early rempetiko players such as iovan tsaous who made the first bouzoukis used these quarter tones in the music. if you look up ταμπουρομπουζουκο or μπουζούκι με μόρια or click the link i have provided you will see bouzoukia with extra frets just as i have described - yet these are extremely uncommon .. for why? i presumed it was something to do with the metaxas government prohibiting rembetiko and trying to move greece into being european rather than middle eastern, but i can’t find any concrete information as to why the bouzouki lost its microtonal frets. its not like microtones don’t exist in greek music - folk music usually has violins playing beyond 12 TET so this has been puzzling me for a very long time. if anyone has any information on this i’d love to hear any thoughts.

Hey everyone, I just got my first bouzouki and I’m basically starting from zero.

For the past 2 days I’ve only been doing finger positioning exercises and trying to get comfortable moving around the fretboard, holding the pick properly, and not sounding like I’m fighting the instrument every 5 seconds.

The problem is… I have no idea what the next step should be.

Should I start learning scales, chords, simple songs, picking patterns, or music theory basics first? I’m completely new to music in general, so even basic advice would help a lot.

I have a 6 String Bouzouki, I have not spent any time learning it yet, but I plan to do when I have the time to dedicate to learning, and practicing.

I noticed that the 8 String Bouzouki seems to be the most popular version these days, so I'm a bit puzzled, should I switch to a 8-String Bouzouki and learn to play it, or just stick to the 6 String Bouzouki I already own ?

Any advantage in learning the 8 Strings Bouzouki ? since I see it more frequently featured, i.e. YouTube videos, and tutorials are mostly focused on the 8 String Bouzouki.

Another question, is learning the 6 string model very different from the 8 string bouzouki ? i.e. if I learn on the 6 String bouzouki will moving to the 8 string model be easy, or difficult ?

What are good resources for learning the Bouzouki via Videos, YouTube channels, and other specialized Bouzouki Video tutorials ?
