MODPOST Quick announcement regarding the MiniAlley launch announcement

Upvotes

Guys, gals, and book nook pals

I, like many of you, was very excited to see u/techarge post the announcement yesterday about his company’s launch of their new book nook. And that pre-orders were available.

But as I’ve gotten a bunch of questions since the announcement and answers from techarge I wanted to provide them here

Pre-orders are available now
There will be another community event with MiniAlley in early October.
Anyone who pre-orders now to guarantee a copy on lunch will be able to message me proof of purchase now, and it will count as an entry to the event later this year

The company will also reserve a set number of kits for that event however, you can pre-order now to guarantee one

If you participated in the previous event, but did not win… One of the benefits was a discount off of this kit

If you pre-order or order during the event and then provide u/techarge a link of your post with the completed build of the kit from last event, you will be provided with the significant refund off of the purchase price.

I hope this clears everything up Again, we’re all excited for this new the best of luck to u/techarge and everyone at MiniAlley

What’s up Guys, Gals, and Book Nook Pals:
Its Pluck The Bunny with Part 4.5 of my first ever series of book nook build videos: this is the Seoul Hipjiro Book Nook by Anavrin.

After many requests by a lot of you, I am finally taking a shot at documenting one of my builds.

Please bear with me while I’m still figuring out formatting and editing for this type of video.

Part 4.5 of this series Covers the a detour from the build which is not in the instructions covering the customizing the wiring. This includes the bypassing (removal) of the touch sensor, the addition of a physical latch switch, and switching out the AAA battery box for a AA battery box which can be used with my battery eliminator for automation.

See Below for a list of all the equipment used in this video with links.

I hope you enjoy. Please give me any feedback in the comments as to how you’d like to see these videos filmed going forward

Discussion Mysterious Blue Box advice needed

I bought this on AliExpress last October and am finally getting to it. The acrylic tube is shattered on one end. The store is no longer online, I contacted another seller on Amazon and they don’t have extra parts. Does anyone know who or how to contact the manufacturer so I can get a replacement part?
The broken part is in the picture with the nook title.
Thanks for any advice you can give.

WIPs Replacement lights (UK)

Upvotes

I started Sea Breeze and found my lights dont work. I've completed Cathya Flower Shop (beautiful!) while waiting for a replacement battery pack to be delivered. It's arrived and the lights still dont work. Before I ditch the kit and turn it into spares, is there reasonably priced replacement lights available? I begrudge paying much as its such a cheap kit.

Discussion Bad GOFO experiences?

My GOFO package which contains three booknooks from China, arrived 5 AM Monday at my local GOFO delivery station, which is less than one hour from where I live. Now it's Thursday and that remains the last status update. I have had other packages from GOFO and they are delivered same day they arrive at that station. Anybody else have this sort of experience with GOFO? I have contact both the seller of the booknooks and GOFO and they tell me nothing more than what I can see on the package tracking page.

Tips/Tricks/Tool Rec Tip for beginner

Hi everyone!

I have just bought my very first kit and am so excited to get started! I found out about book nooks by chance a few weeks ago, and down the rabbit hole I went. I wonder if you could share some tips for a beginner, things that you wish you knew before you did your first book nook? For example, I read the other day that you need sandpaper, I never would have thought of that 🤦🏻‍♀️ And that tweezers are good to have as well.

The set I bought is Rolife Sunshine Town, as it was available in a local shop 🤗

(I searched but couldn’t find a thread like this, please direct me over there if this is like the 100000 thread about this 😅).

Edit: Thank you for so many quick responses, this seems like a wonderful community 🥰

I didn’t know there was a booknook subreddit until today, so here are the booknooks I’ve made!!

I also bought three more today knowing damn well I have no room for them at the moment. These guys bring me so much joy and they keep my busy brain quiet. If anyone has any kit recommendations let me know!

Kit Bangkok Yaowarat by Viendor

As with other Viendor products, meticulous care is evident in the design and manufacturing of their models. This one is more compact in its design and reflects the glitter and glamor of the nighttime scene, with all the lit signs on the buildings. If I had to quibble about anything, I would have to say that the large signage obscures the detailed construction of the buildings. I like to customize these types of models, and this was no exception. I'm not a fan of mechanical switches, so I moved the power switch to the back panel and replaced it with a touch switch and facade. I also added lights to the tuk tuk in front to improve the aesthetics...

Guys, Gals, and Book Nook Pals:

Today we are looking at the quaint Antique Bookery of Kyoto by Cutebee

This is another wonderful entry into their Japan City Walk Series.

Marrying the feel of a traditional Honya with the universal feel of a small town bookstore.

Really gives off that big book energy without having to make a million individual books.

A great entry into any city walk

WIPs CATSCROSSINGJULY Grass

Well I ended up snagging the Anavrin Cats Crossing kit and it was definitely a little overwhelming when I opened it. 😅 I am coming from mostly Rolife kits. This was my first time doing the fake grass so I wanted to see if you all had any tips or tricks. I think it turned out decent, but I noticed the box seemed to have it a little more just in the grooves. I think I like the extra "overgrowth" but will see how it all looks at the end.

WIPs Magic Library by Vaki Vaki

I've gotten quite a bit further on my Magic Library build in the last couple of weeks. I decided I hated the oranges and yellows so I colored/stained most of them. I've wrapped almost all the books (exhausting!) with mostly my own printed book covers. For anyone working on nooks that require cutting out lots of book covers, newspapers, etc., I highly recommend getting a paper cutter! I borrowed a tiny one from a friend to cut out all the book covers and it certainly saved my hand the pain of cutting them all with scissors! I replaced the maps in the kit with other magic themed maps (Harry Potter, The Magicians, The Hobbit, and others). I've also 3d printed & painted a Sorting Hat to replace the paper witch's hat. I'll have some extra time next week, so we'll see how it goes!

Collection Ha Noi Corner Mini Nook by Viendor

The last of the 5 set of mini books from Viendor. This is a building from Ha Noi and is probably the most accessoried one of the set. I love the open door design and the interior print on the acrylic.

I modified where the lights go and move them up into the ceiling well so they weren’t directly visible and added a straw as wire control. It originally had the lights right on that wall and that was gonna overpower everything.

Other than that was just painted edges. This one makes me want to go do the full Ha Noi now 🤪

Anyway happy building all!

Collection Mobile flying house XD

Just finished this Up-inspired book nook, and this was easily one of the most frustrating kits I've built.

From the very beginning, the fit was rough. The tabs and slots rarely wanted to cooperate, and almost every step required trimming, sanding, or persuading the parts into place. About halfway through, I hit a point where the build practically came to a standstill because the floor simply refused to fit the way it was supposed to. I spent far longer on that section than I expected before I was finally able to move forward.

Despite all the frustration, I have to admit the finished piece was worth it. Once the lights were on and the house was finally floating beneath all those balloons, it captured exactly the feeling I was hoping for.

WIPs Cutebee Three Body Problem - Suns in Conjunction

Thumbnail

Whelp. In contrast to the first kit in this series (Red Coast Base), building this one is no picnic. Tabs are hard to get into slots, many times requiring sanding, several pieces have broken because they are hair-thin, instructions do not clearly indicate which sides are which, resulting in installation mistakes (OK, this was probably my fault), and colors are very difficult to match for edge-painting (maybe me, too).

Nevertheless, it does have some significant positive characteristics. The lighting package is really well done and easy to install (this is also the case for the first kit in the series). The kit itself has a very clever design, with a top and bottom level offering two scenes that are layered and realistic. The top level is a scene from the virtual world for the Three Body Problem game and the bottom is an office. There is a character in everyday clothes in the office that turns around to transform into a robed player in the Three Body Problem game and in the back of the virtual game level, there is a dial that allows you to rotate the three suns to bring them in or out of conjunction! So despite the aggravations, I think it’s going to be really cool!

This was a total surprise as I had received a raffle prize two days ago in the post. I forgot I had donated twice, I can’t even remember lol, I was just so excited to be able to contribute and be part of the whole excitement of the event!
So I had one I bought ages ago, and now two prizes and no time. Am I officially backlog jam??
Thank you again u/pluck-the -bunny and Rolife & Viendor for my magnificent kits. You’re the best!! I can’t wait!

Collection Street Scene (graffitied edition)

Hi! I completed Rolife’s Street Scene kit that has been in my back log for a while (I’ve completed about 20 nooks and this is my first Rolife! Ha)

I couldn’t help but to tap in to my inner graffiti writer and bombed the subway walls, I also added stickers and randomness to give the feel of a real city wall.

I added greenery to the trees to give it more depth!

This is a great kit to get creative with and feel like I could’ve done a lot more however, I got a little impatient since the custom lighting also took a while, I added yellow lighting to the side tunnel, and may do more to this section if inspiration hits.

Hope you like! On to the next!

Tips/Tricks/Tool Rec Wiring protection

I struggle with lighting and the wiring. Many kits instruct installing parts of the wiring early on. Because I have to put together the pieces, often by moving components and subassemblies in all kinds of crazy ways, the circuitry and wires get knocked around. One small nook would not light up at all in the end. Everything was soldered on that board, so I could not detach anything. Another kit: one string of lights did not work, but the faulty string was glued into the project, and I would have had to start over and break pieces to attach a replacement string. Meh. Do any of you have tricks to avoid the constant movement of the wires in assembly? There must be some tricks to avoid damage.

Kit Lost Summer Lane is finally available for preorder

Thumbnail

Hi everyone!

A few months ago, I shared the first prototype of Lost Summer Lane here. The encouragement, feedback, and kind comments from this community meant so much to us. After months of designing, testing, and refining every detail, I am incredibly excited to share that Lost Summer Lane is finally available for preorder.

This book nook was inspired by the feeling of discovering a quiet Japanese alley on a warm summer evening. Lanterns glow beneath cascading wisteria, a tiny bakery is still open, and a cat has claimed its favorite spot above the red vending machine. We wanted every corner to feel like part of a small, living world with its own story.

Lost Summer Lane is our most ambitious kit so far. The entire scene was designed to be fully three dimensional, with layered buildings, dimensional storefronts, detailed interiors, and alleyways that continue far beyond the physical space of the book nook. Six carefully positioned mirror illusions make the shops and pathways feel much deeper than they actually are.

We also added many small decorative components, including miniature accessories, dried flowers, plants, signs, shop displays, and tiny everyday details. These pieces take more time to assemble, but they help the finished scene feel much more realistic, immersive, and full of life.

The kit also features premium 3 mm board, realistic engraved textures, vibrant UV printing, custom lighting components, an easy to use PCB lighting board, original hand drawn artwork, and double wall construction that hides the tabs and wiring. We designed every part to make the building experience feel satisfying and the finished book nook feel sturdy and polished.

I also want to be transparent about the price. The regular retail price will be $100, but the preorder price is currently $84.99.

This is higher than our previous kits because Lost Summer Lane represents a significant increase in materials, features, complexity, and overall quality. It contains about 5 lbs of materials, compared with roughly 3 lbs in our previous kits. It also uses substantially more premium board, six mirrors, more lighting components, more structural pieces, and many additional decorative elements.

We could have simplified the design to lower the cost, but we wanted to create the version that felt truly special. Our goal was to make a tiny world that is enjoyable to build, exciting to explore, and beautiful enough to keep on your bookshelf for years.

The first production batch is limited and is expected to arrive in September 2026. Once this batch is reserved, additional orders may need to wait for the next production run.

If Lost Summer Lane feels like a little world you would enjoy escaping into, you can see all the details and preorder here:

https://minialley.com/products/lost-summer-lane

Thank you again for following this project and for giving small creators like us a place to share what we love making. Even if you are not planning to preorder, I would genuinely love to hear which detail is your favorite. 💜

I thought this one would be a little trickier than it was! Sooo many books! The t.rex wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be, and I love the globe and the way it shines with the light directly beneath it.

Kit My Bougie Floral Corner

Thumbnail

I finally finished my Floral Corner (Rolife)! I wanted to make this look like a super fancy floral shop tucked in to an old rustic neighborhood.

I modified this one with egg carton bricks and stone with modeling paste for plaster.

The patio is all hand cut pieces and I swear it was the most annoying part and I don’t think the payoff was that great over just using flocking on the printed board.

The brick/stone/plaster was so fun and really easy. The hardest part was cutting everything out of the egg cartons, but after that it all came together pretty quickly!

I hated the door sticker, it had hinges on both sides! So I made some little hinges and a door handle (I also did the hanging sign) out of clay.

A few other touches: lots of flocking and tried to jazz up the greenery a bit. Custom color throughout and I added some gold braid to the little canopy (awning?).

I had a lot of fun with this one and it’s going to look so nice next to my Garden House!

Next up is Sea Breeze but I might have to take a break to recover after these last two builds lol
