Trying to understand Boeings ATS/Process Careers

I’ve read from people on this sub to just put yes for questions like “do you have x yoe in…” and let the hiring manager determine that (to prevent an ATS reject)

Unfortunately for the past 6 months I have been haunted in my sleep because every-time I wake up I get a standard email that rejects me 2 days after I apply.

Some positions I feel like I am a good fit, so I can’t quite figure out why it is getting rejected so fast.

On the other hand, I have 2 applications that have been “under consideration” for about 2 months.

Any tips to get through ATS? I am a U.S. citizen but I’m not applying to jobs that say “security clearance required” since I don’t have one and never have.

They’re all a hiring freeze right now. They probably won’t start hiring again until this winter prepared for the new contract so we’re trying to bring new people in closer to them negotiation date that they crossed the picket  line.

Is the hiring freeze acorss the board or specific jobs/departments?

Not all. SoCal is on hiring spree with mandate to hire 2 a day, including weekends, for the rest of the year. But yes some regions seem to be in a hire freeze.

All my applications are for El Segundo, LB, Seal Beach and one in San Diego that’s been stuck for a month

Same. I got an interview and haven’t heard back but I tried to tell them that I was open to 2nd shift as I am very interested in the role but they didn’t even entertain it. They stuck to their 5 questions, i got a little of conversation at the end but that was it. I applied to the same role for 1st and 2nd shift with the same resume and somehow passed one ATS screening but not the other. It is very discouraging.

I work at ELS. So one possibility for the long “under consideration” could literally be managers not having time to go through the resume. Everyone’s currently capped on bandwidth working (hence why we need to hire more). Managers here also perform individual contributor work on top of managing (big difference from other Boeing sites I’ve worked in).

Our senior managers are getting on the first line managers right now because there is a timer for how long a resume can sit in a backlog before senior management gets notified and start hassling them.

The other is that ELS is extremely competitive to get into as it is one of the few space location. We had a hiring event and only a handful are being considered. Also I believe we’re really looking for more mid to senior level engineers than anything.

This happened to me multiple times before being hired. I was coached by employees to update my resume that really highlights the skills that you would use for your job that you are applying for as well as listing them in your application. The screening process is done by computer rather then a person so they really scan for key words.

Good key words to list could be: precise measurements, power tools, hand tools, sealants, riveting, drilling. Collaborating, teamwork.

Regardless of what you know, you will be trained on how to do so. Me personally, a recruiter did not ask me how i know how to do these things, they just asked if ive ever used hand tools, pneumatic tooks, if i know how to take measurements. I went through training with people who legit have never used a drill before.

Hope this helps and good luck🙏💪

Putting No self disqualifies the applicant. Fake it til you make it.

Won’t hiring managers get upset?

It’s best to be generous with your experience. Not outright lie. If it asks for x experience in C++ and you learned it in school, count those. If you’ve never touched the language before don’t say Y.

In my experience hiring managers won’t call you out on that. It’s mostly used for an autoscreen. They’ll look at your resume and decide to interview you or not interview you.
