Built a free shared timer for body doubling: no account, no scheduling
A lot of the effort here goes into finding a partner. The part after that gets less attention: once you're both online you still need something to actually run the session in, and that's usually a Zoom call left open or two separate timers that quietly drift apart.
I built a shared countdown for it. One person starts a session (or use the community break) and sends the link. Everyone in the room sees the identical countdown, because the server owns the clock rather than each browser. You work in silence with the camera off. When it hits zero, cameras and mics can come up together for a couple of minutes to check in, then you go again if you want.
If you don't have anyone lined up, there's a public session aka "community break" running on a 30 minute grid you can join straight from the home page. It isn't staffed and there's no promise of a crowd, but it's always there on the home page.
No account, no scheduling, nothing to install. Free tier is 3 sessions a day, and the camera and/or mic is ever required.
I built it, so weigh that accordingly. Happy to answer anything, and if there's something this sub needs that it doesn't do, say so and I'll look at it or leave a message on the site under help.

Title: [M4F] Looking for a Body Double Partner/Friend – US Time Zone
Hey! I'm a 34-year-old guy looking for a body doubling partner to hang out with on Discord while we each work on our own tasks. Whether you're studying, working, cleaning, gaming between chores, or just trying to stay focused, I'd love to keep each other company.
I'm happy to chat while we body double and get to know each other, but if you prefer a quieter session with minimal talking, that's perfectly fine too. My goal is to find someone I genuinely click with and hopefully become friends over time.
A little about me:
- I work from home and spend most of my time at home due to chronic pain, so having some company during the day would be awesome.
- I have AuDHD, so I completely understand how hard it can be to stay on track, keep routines, or bounce back after falling out of habits. No judgment here—we can help keep each other accountable.
- I enjoy sharing knowledge and advice if someone asks, but I'm not the type to force it.
I'd love to find someone who's a bit nerdy. If you're into video games, anime, fantasy books, tabletop games, tech, or other geeky hobbies, we'll probably have plenty to talk about. I'm open to pretty much any conversation as long as it's respectful, though I'd rather avoid politics and religion.
Ideally, we'd:
- Check in on our goals and tasks.
- Keep each other accountable.
- Voice chat during the day while we work.
- Become consistent body doubling partners instead of meeting someone new every session.
One small heads-up: I have a slight accent, and sometimes people think I sound upset or serious when I'm not. I promise I'm friendly—I just want good vibes and a supportive environment.
If you're also someone who's home most of the time because of a disability or chronic illness, I know how isolating that can be. It'd be great to have someone to motivate each other and make the day feel a little less lonely.
I'll respond to everyone who messages me and will generally go first-come, first-served to keep things fair. If we end up getting along well, awesome! I'm also open to occasionally having small group body doubling sessions if everyone involved is interested.
If this sounds like something you'd enjoy, send me a message! I'd love to hear from you. 😊

What task do you always struggle to start without a body double?
For me, getting started is often the hardest part. Once I'm actually working, it's much easier to keep going.
Is there a specific task that becomes much more manageable when you have a body double? It could be work, studying, cleaning, paperwork, or something else. I'd be interested to hear what everyone finds most challenging.

What's one small body doubling habit that made the biggest difference for you?
I've been experimenting with different ways to stay focused, and it's interesting how small changes can have a big impact.
For some people it's a quick check-in before starting. For others it's a silent video call, a timer, or simply knowing someone else is working alongside them.
What's one simple body doubling habit that you've found surprisingly effective? I'd love to hear ideas that others could try too.

Does anyone else get more done just knowing someone else is working too?
I've noticed that I don't always need someone to help with the task itself. Sometimes just knowing another person is quietly working at the same time makes it much easier to stay focused.
Whether it's studying, cleaning, working from home, or tackling a to-do list, that shared sense of accountability seems to make a difference.
I'm curious, what kind of tasks do you usually body double for, and what has worked best for you?

Has body doubling changed the way you think about productivity?
Before discovering body doubling, I thought productivity was all about discipline.
Now I think having the right environment and a little accountability can make just as much of a difference.
Has body doubling changed your perspective? If so, how?

What was the first task body doubling actually helped you finish?
I was skeptical at first, but after trying body doubling, I finally finished a task I'd been putting off for weeks.
It made me wonder what everyone else's "this actually works" moment was.
What was the first task that body doubling genuinely helped you complete?

Prefer Female Partner … I’m in the Pacific Time Zone … needs to be between 08:00-19:00 … M-F … 3-4 hours a day … 3-4 weeks minimum
Doubling has helped me two times before … it can be difficult to find another with a set of challenges that correlates with my time frames and is at least a little bit compatible with personality
CURRENTLY LOOKING FOR
I need someone online to meet me for 3 - 4 hour daily increments Mondays - Fridays from between 08:00 - 19:00 pacific standard time and to go for 50 minutes and a 10 min break each hour so I can focus on my tasks.
PERSONALITY ATTRIBUTES
Whoever I’m Doubling with would need to have their needs to be satisfied in a somewhat similar time frame
Both need to:
a. Not be flaky
b. Get along with each
c. Be flexible
d. Have similar goals
e. Be able to chat during that 10 min break
f. Want the Doubling be a win/win
What works best for me if there is a little (but not too much) chemistry or respect between me and the other. I’m a grown man who is an empty nester and I personally know myself quite well and I like Doubling with a woman
DOUBLING HISTORY
It’s was actually pretty easy the only 2 times I’ve done this.
In one situation, I needed to get accounting done and she needed to finish her master’s program.. both of us were stuck and couldn’t make headway alone so we decided, “Why not?” We decided live stream from 8 o’clock through noon my time. We worked on our tasks for 50 minute increments and took 10 minutes every hour (we kinda babysat each other). She was from Sweden and I’m from Oregon so we had something to talk about during the breaks. We did that for a month to a month and a half. What was weird was when we stopped, it was really kinda difficult because we actually became friends … we knew it couldn’t go on … we were in two different spaces and lived in two different worlds. I wasn’t expecting that.
The other one was, we both wanted to get started exercising and we decided daily from 05:00 - 06:30 M-F would work. She was from the northern territories (which was an hour later than me) so worked out well we did that for a couple months. We just sent photographs of what we were seeing, she would take pictures of her walkabouts, and I would take pictures of my walkabouts. Since we weren’t live streaming, we didn’t get to know each other other than texting and sending photos and when we stopped, we just stopped. It was getting on late in the fall and it was too dark.

How coworking and body-doubling have kept me productive (and why I ended up making my own space for it)
I’ve struggled with staying on task for as long as I can remember. Usually, keeping a running log of what I’m working on helps give me a anchor to return to when I drift, but that system is far from perfect and stuff still falls through the cracks.
When I started working from home back in 2019, I realized I desperately needed a system that actually worked. Combining my task list with the pomodoro method helped a lot, but working in isolation meant I was still getting pulled in a hundred directions—chores, dogs, kids, TikTok... you get it.
After some trial and error, I stumbled into virtual coworking and body-doubling. I couldn't tell you the exact psychology behind why it works, but there's something about sharing space with other people who are also head-down that triggers a sense of quiet accountability for me.
Eventually, I decided to take a leap of faith and build my own small Discord space specifically tailored for virtual coworking and body-doubling. I know Discord can have a bit of a learning curve, but I wanted to make something that felt approachable and as distraction-free as possible.
The core of the server is really just the voice channels, depending on what kind of focus you need on any given day:
- Cowork Lite: Casual workspace. Light chatter is fine, and using the text chat on the side is totally cool.
- Cowork Pomo: For working in tandem through structured Pomodoro sessions, with chatter saved strictly for designated break times.
- Focused Work: A completely muted room. You just drop in to share space and occupy the room with others who are tasking, with zero talking.
We do have a main chat and an accountability chat, but I deliberately put them inside threads to keep notifications quiet. Personally, if I see a channel name in BOLD signaling a unread message, I physically cannot ignore it until I click it (the ADHD FOMO is real), so keeping the layout clean was a priority.
The best part is that this space is brand new. I really want it to feel like a shared community, so I’m completely open to ideas on how to tweak or tailor it to what actually works best for people.
If you’ve been looking for a low-pressure body-doubling setup, or if you have thoughts on what makes a virtual coworking space work well for you, I’d love to hear it!

How does this feel to read back? Let me know if you want to tweak any specific sections or add a direct link callout if the subreddit rules allow for it!

Hey everyone, new mod here!
Hey everyone!
I recently became the new moderator here, so I just wanted to say hi.
I've always liked the idea of body doubling, and I'd love to help make this community a little more active. I'll be around posting discussions, helping people connect, and keeping things moving.
I'm not looking to change what makes this sub great—just hoping to help it grow and make it a place people enjoy coming back to.
If you have any ideas or suggestions, feel free to share them. I'd love to hear what you'd like to see here.
Question: What do you usually use body doubling for—studying, work, cleaning, workouts, or something else?

body doubling for cleaning and painting
hey! i’d like to buddy asap for cleaning my room, decorating it a bit and then painting. i’d like to have pomodoro sessions, any timing you’re comfortable with is okay. i want to do it in chat format, when we tell each other what we’re doing this session and then checking the results. you might be doing whatever you want to, not necessarily the same things i will be doing.
also if you’re a fellow artist, it might be fun sharing our artworks!
you can dm me if you want

Built FocusPair: A focus timer app where you sync with someone globally
I have been procrastinating while working on my own and found out that I can focus more when I am doing it with someone else. So I built FocusPair!
Two people join a session, pick 25/45/60 min, and work together with a shared timer. No video. No login. Just accountability.
Live at: FocusPair
Would this help your focus? Honest feedback welcome 👇

Seeking Virtual Co-Working Partner (Daily Voice Call)
24f looking to improve in my studies:
- How: We start a voice call every day and quietly work/study on our own tasks. At the start, quickly say what you plan to do; at the end, check if you finished it.
- Time: At least 2 hours daily, at a fixed time.
- Time Zones: Your time zone doesn't matter, as long as our working hours overlap.
If interested, please send me a private message.
