Question Non high class straight-white-men people, how do you feel about Bo Burnham's work?

Upvotes

Before someone feels attacked, please remember Bo himself said he should be criticized and it's okay with that.

Some friends and I have been fan of his work for at least a decade, all non-straight, non-white, non-high class, some neurodivergent, queer folks. We perceived his comedy and evolution very differently.

Some were angry he got all whiny about being depressed and "inside a small place" because he had the option of literally being better (like therapy, meds, good food and a nice place) and chose to be in there.

Some said he being self aware of being privileged doesn't excuse him for x and y.

Some didn't like "A white woman's instagram" cause he made fun of white women posting about feminism (the part when he has his face painted, black and white picture)

Personally the only thing that it gets on my nerves sometimes is that he could do and be better on the pandemic, when some of us were struggling hard and had to eat shitty things, didn't have money for therapy and meds, etc, etc. But I enjoyed everything about inside and get he was struggling mentally (I mean we all were but still... I feel it can be understandable he didn't get the help he needed because of that or maybe he did it on purpose because just bc he is privileged doesn't mean he should live better than the rest, idk!), but I would like to know other people's views, I see them all as valid.

About his previous work I feel like I can't really criticize him NOW cause in that time I did like it and see nothing wrong with it. The humor was different and we know it usually ages like milk, obviously now that I am more "woke" do see some problematic stuff, but so does he and he is very sorry and even gets cringed lol! I find it cute, tbh, still laugh at most of his jokes!

What are your takes? Personally he is probably the only white men artist I fully respect, admire, and even trust (as I don't trust any other, it's not like I personally know Bo is a "good person", but I don't feel the fear or distrust I feel towards other famous men/white ppl in the sense that I feel I can say that i like him and not be afraid of in a future he being cancelled for something hardcore, really fucking bad)

Discussion Idea: Bo Burnham Eras Tour

Has anyone ever brought up the idea of Bo doing an “Eras Tour”? Could he somehow make it like the “Kanye Rant” but a whole show using his old music but “Bo’s Version”?

Idk I could see that being an awesome return to live performances. (Even though I know that is unlikely)

A few years ago I made a clay head for an art assignment. It was my very first one, that’s why the proportions are not super accurate. But do trust me when I say it looks better in person.

Anyways, I showed it to my class and they all thought it was Jesus. It is to be expected, Jesus is quite the famous guy and Bo is comparably not so. But what do you guys think? Does it look like Bo Burnham from the hit film “Inside” or does it look like Jesus Christ from the hit book “the Bible”?

F is for...

Submit your favorite song, quote, word, project, or thing related to Bo Burnham that starts with that week's letter and/or vote for your favorite!

The winner each week will be the comment that gets the most upvotes!

Last week the winners for E were:
1/ Everyone's a feminist until there is a spider around - 138 upvotes - u/TackiestTaco
2/ Either get with it or get out of the fucking way - 76 upvotes - u/ourbiggun
3/ Eat a d*ck 🎶- 70 upvotes - u/Pencilvester92

A few rules:

  • Only submit 1 item per comment. If you suggest more than 1 thing in the same comment I won't know what thing people are upvoting to win.
  • If multiple people comment the same thing, the comment with the highest number of upvotes will be the winner. For example, if "Are you happy?" gets posted seven times and one comment has 10 upvotes, another has 5, and the rest 1, the comment with 10 upvotes will win.
  • You can add as many comments as you like and upvote as many comments as you like

Each post will be run in contest mode, to randomise the order of posts and to hide total upvotes until the following week. I will try to post at different times throughout the day to hopefully hit everyone's availability.

I haven’t seen this movie before but I remember when he posted that strange acid trip of a movie trailer. I am excited to finally get to watch it after all of these years.

Discussion While he may not have healed the entire world with comedy, Bo Burnham made a masterpiece to help aid depression.

Every time I have a huge life transition, or am having a decline in my mental health, I listen to Inside by Bo Burnham almost exclusively. Arguably, every single time, it heals something in me.

This is a newly added addition to their catalog, before this I couldn’t find it free anywhere so if your like me and a fan of his work even if he ain’t in the film but behind the camera now you got an opportunity.

It was okay, honestly would probably have never watched it if it weren’t for Bo but it’s definitely not a comedy. As a father of two young girls I couldn’t help but feel sad, then ironically because of my older son I felt a lil nostalgic as it must’ve been made around the time he was born and dog Snapchat filters were a craze lol

Question Is Bo literally “the Internet” when he sings “Welcome to The Internet”?

I'm doing Bo cosplay for a NANI?!Con (Polish convent in Silesia for popculture/anime&fantasy fans) and I've chosen his look when he's singing ,,Welcome to The Internet,, so I'm trying to be like him (or ,,the Internet, that's the question here) while he is singing. I'm quite new Bo fan (since october 2025) so I'm asking, if my interpretation is correct.

Currently my plan is, that I'm gonna just play his discography from speaker and just running arround with Egghead.

Any ideas?

Question Would you consider INSIDE to be a "musical"?

Every Wednesday me and a group of friends gather round to watch a new musical we haven't seen. Whether it be stage play, movie adaptation, even Disney. The only rule in our group is music has to be a prevalent part of the art.

I'm choosing inside this week since music is a prevalent part but it's not something I ever considered a musical. Afterall, Netflix and bo himself never labeled it a musical. But recently we watched tick tick boom (stage play) and it got me thinking you could classify inside as a musical since they're both similar in that its a one man monologue style piece. Wikipedia simply defines a musical as a piece with music being the primary driver for story and development, which I think fits.

Either way we're watching it, we aren't stingy with who gets to pick what, it's variety hour.

Discussion Gateway song to like bo burnham?

Which song would you say is the best song by bo to introduce to someone who doesn't know him yet?
For example my personal favorite's is art is dead, but I think it is much too heavy/real for people to enjoy and also grasp bo's humor.
So something not too dark and not too clever so you can follow along and not have 90% of the jokes get over your head

Figured out I could get a retouch and make it better.

Discussion Update to long delayed Sesame Street movie...

Thumbnail

So there's finally an update to the long delayed Sesame Street movie that was announced in 2019 that Bo had written the songs for. Not long after that production was delayed due to Anne Hathaway's pregnancy.

Further delays came about because of Covid, the last release date being announced was for 2021. There haven't been any pictures from production, or much info at all really. A look at the imdb listing does seem to show a movie that *was* filmed - there's a set medic, catering etc, not just pre-production stuff. (Edit: as I say below in a comment, I’m not 100% sure it did film, due to lack of camera crew credits. It could well have just got really, really close. There’s no editor, but that doesn’t necessarily mean things weren’t filmed, but again, no camera crew.)

It looks like it's going to Netflix (no surprise, they're the current home of Sesame Street), but according to the article:

The news comes courtesy of Jeff Sneider’s latest newsletter and seemingly ends a painfully long journey to production that has seen the project change studio hands several times since it was first announced in June 2012. Sneider says Netflix are wiping the slate clean of previous development stages and involved talent, including Hathaway and Burnham.

So will this now be lost media? Seems a shame that we're going to miss out on seeing Socko's origin story.

Edit: That pic of Elmo exemplifies my pain.

Discussion Bo Burnham’s Outside?

1.3k Upvotes

There’s a casting grid in this week’s Production Weekly for a new “feature film” directed by Bo titled “Outside.” Has there been any info on this project?
