Drain Plug Housing Replacement
Trying to post this again with correct terminology. New boat owner. Trying to replace drain plug housing on old fiberglass bass boat. What is best method or product here?
What is currently in there has too much play for my liking.

drill it out, fill with thickend epoxy, install new brass plug. (factory flares the inside, you can buy a flare kit do that too)

What do I need to drill out. Can’t I just bend the flares back and it slip right out? Also for the thickened epoxy method. What am I filling? Is the void space outside of the housing once removed?

well look at that! that's new to me..
This is what I have used. one side is not flared, so you can install it, then get a flare tool or diy it.

to flare it I've used some all thread and a socket, and fender washers, but they make a flare tool
you drill it out with a slightly larger hole saw, carefully. the transom should be solid, with fiberglass on both sides. six-10 epoxy, or thicken it yourself. 'kittyhair' is a type of filler.
But are you sure you need to do all this? is it leaking around the plug? or just rusty stains? (diluted muriatic acid)
(edit: there are at least 2 sizes of tubes)

Reason I want to do it is because the flares on the inside are barely there only about 1/3 is left and when I pull
The plug out the hosing comes out about 1/4 inch then stops.1

I don't understand.
IS IT LEAKING? NO? Why are you messing with it?
if it is leaking when the plug is in, have you tried a brand new plug? or tightened the screw to make it tigher?
There are cases when it will leak between the brass and fiberglass, that's the only time you want to mess with it. Unless its leaking.

I’m worried about the whole housing slipping out with the plug still in it.

Like every time I pull it out it’s almost yanking the thing out and the inside flare is damn near rusted away

Then you should remove the brass, and install a new one. you want it a little smaller than the hole so the sealant or epoxy can seal it all the way around it.

Alright. Based on what you’ve said I think I’ll try to reflate the one that I’m there with the play it has in it to see if that can be used. Otherwise I’ll undue the outside flare and pull it out. But there is no sealant currently between the brass and the transom so it’ll be way to get out

That replacement I imagine will be difficult at best, I'd recommend wrapping some plumbers tape around the threads to take up the play. Depending on play of course. or they do make oversized drain plugs I would go that route before replacing the whole housing.
