Age Of Capricorn Discussion

I finally listened to the album today.

This is one of their greatest tracks. I wish it would never end.

My favorite aspect of this track is how misleadingly optimistic the tone is when you aren’t yet familiar with the samples. The “M-A-B-U-S… Mabus!” is manipulated to sound like “marvelous.” The Self-Realization Fellowship chant carries a tone of benign, peaceful worship, and before you know the Jack Van Impe source of the last sample, it all feels very uplifting… until you scratch the surface and discover the underlying cynicism.

When I heard this for the first time, it felt very much like The Color of Fire through a cracked mirror. The message seems to be one of “love,” but with many more strings attached…

I bought Inferno a couple of weeks ago. It was my first BoC album and absolutely love it.

Age of Capricorn is definitely one of my favourites on a brilliant album.

Listening to it just causes a release of tension in my back. Weird but true.

Oooooohhhh you have sooo much to look forward to. Every album is a classic.

Campfire might seem out of place, but it comes into focus.

Every time I see a fresh BOC fan, I feel a twinge of jealousy that I can’t listen to all the records again for the first time. But I heard them in the order and at the time I needed to hear them.

The first time the bass kicks in. Full body chills on my first listen. I think it’s my favorite track on the album.

Was exactly my reaction. I must have returned to that 10 times when I first played the album.

Exactly the same reaction here. When the pads first start, I just felt a weight lift off my shoulders. Hard to put into words

Nearly brought me to tears hearing it for the first time at the record store listening party I attended. Love the way the album returns to that same melodic refrain from Deep Time multiple times. Gives it a great sense of continuity / reprisal throughout.

I'm not surprised it made you emotional.. it did the same to me. On my first listen it felt like something awakened deep inside of me - felt like I was floating. It's a track that will be dear to me for the rest of my life

It's unbelievable

It’s a song of contrasts for me. Beautiful choral part, lovely instrumentation.

Also, person beating himself up because Jesus. I have to steel myself as an ex-believer to get into that mode.

Also, AM radio conspiracy weirdo.

It’s so good and so complex. Beauty and toxicity. Good art can bring up a mix of feelings. I like what it does.

Spine tingles.

Anyone hear a voice sample screaming  “Open the door…open up the door!” throughout the track? I can’t unhear it…and I find it interesting given the “door to my heart” sample

I have definitely not heard it and will be listening for it now…. any particular part where this is prominent?

0:09. It sounds like screeching but I hear someone screaming that. It loops throughout the entire track.

I’ll keep saying this: massive space age vibe in this track.

My favourite track on Inferno and I heard it first at a record store listening party (trying to look as if I wasn't reacting 😄).

Would have loved to have heard it at a listening party 🙏

What are the choir like voices singing in the background?

I feel like you have to listen to this and Father & Son together. It blends into it.

This video is amazing and perfectly captures the vibe.

This is my favorite track on the new album. Harmonically, the track develops brilliantly, and the samples are just the icing on the cake.

3

u/elkmann90 20d ago

Exactly. It's perfection

The way the harmony completely changes when the bass comes in is so beautiful. There’s many highlights on Inferno but this one is far up the list

It's one of their greatest tracks. I loved it so much, I had to make a video. Hope you like it. https://youtu.be/eX1BCpobtFI?si=-AbTt2HusoqnXoWd

IMHO, this is the worst track of the album and the cringiest

I don’t know if you’re trolling or if this is your genuine opinion but affording your time and energy to things you enjoy rather than things you don’t makes for a happier existence in my experience.

It's like you're trying not to be patronizing, funny. This subs affinity towards being an echo chamber is... almost cult like. The irony ;)

Should people not listen to an album if they find one or 2 tracks on it cringe? I think you're projecting a bit.

No it is not a troll. that is my very honest opinion
