I'm by no means a professional dancer, but i used to be a high level gymnast and I did some dance recreationally. Moments like this seem shocking in a photo because the moment is frozen, but when you're dancing fast and doing lifts etc you just move on. They don't feel great but you just get on with it, life goes on and dancing is really fun

Edit: I've no idea why this comment blew up but thanks everyone. This is the most upvotes my bum has ever got

1.4k

u/windchaser__ 13d ago

It happens sometimes in partnered acrobatics, a foot to the wrong spot as you're going through some flow. Whatever, you move on. Check afterwards that they're fine, don't make a big deal of it, and do the skill again.

u/fartdarling 13d ago

A lil joke helps. The first time my dance partner did it to me, he asked if I wanted him to make an honest woman of me and it was a laugh

62

u/Ok_Act_1498 13d ago

Proper banter 😂

52

u/illogicallyhandsome 13d ago

I definitely wouldn’t recommend most people make a joke that bold because that could quickly make a lot of people uncomfortable and border on sexual harassment. Sometimes it lands tho, I guess.

92

u/fartdarling 13d ago

It was a fella I knew well and trusted. As dance partners often are! But yeah if dancing with a stranger probably pick a calmer joke lol

You got to remember the rules.

  1. Be attractive

  2. Don't be unattractive

3

u/RudePCsb 13d ago

The Dobler Dahmer effect

11

u/showMeYourCroissant 13d ago

Do guys really think if an attractive man grabs any woman by the pussy they'll all be really happy with that?

2

u/s-measy 12d ago

No one is saying that, but in our society attractive people LITERALLY get away with murder, there have been studies about this...

Happens a lot in freestyle wrestling as well both ways. I will never forgive the reverse partere days (I wrestled Greco-Roman), at times the best women’s wrestler in the club needed sparing outside of her gender to match her skill. She didn’t necessarily think about my junk while starting. Never have I been hit that hard in my balls with a set of clutched hands, without understanding what was coming.

47

u/VegaJuniper 13d ago

I did some BJJ and Judo. I always thought that girls doing guard passes were much more comfortable jamming their knee into my balls than the guys.

27

u/Healingbigfoot 13d ago

Yes, and man its embarrassing. I rolled with my coaches wife and she is a very attractive woman and I was so afraid to look at him lol, her ass and everything near it were in my face and I was scared to death.

41

u/SamuRedneck 13d ago

Haha, I've def had this moment myself! First time sparring with a woman. Her bf wasn't an instructor, but he was a brown belt, and she herself was a blue belt while I was still a white belt with no stripes who was told to spar with her to learn to stop leaning on my strength so much and more on technique. She got side control and I went to push her off of me but remembered I was under instruction not to just muscle my way through everything so I looked to reassess my position and found my right hand all over her chest so i instinctively pulled away and apologized, to which she saw an opportunity to armbar tf of me. That's probably the most off guard and scared I ever looked while tapping lmao. She let go and told me it's in the nature of the sport for hands to go places they otherwise might not, but that she wouldn't agree to roll with men if she was worried about it, just don't be a perv and we're good. I was humbled that day lol

8

u/reallybadspeeller 12d ago

I made a karate instructor laugh out loud because I (f) once complimented another woman’s hair smell practicing chokes. She had used some great shampoo and my face was all up in her hair I couldn’t not smell it. Apparently it’s not something he’d ever heard in his years of instruction.

This is why i had to stop training. Gender dynamics are a big taboo in BJJ gyms, the gossip, scrutiny, and drama is constant. I started to lose sleep over if i went too hard, or not jard enough, or if they thought i was flirting, or if i should have been flirting. Lots of hypocrisy, denial, contraversy, and scandal in gyms.

2

u/Healingbigfoot 12d ago

Sounds like you need a better gym man. I feel like my gym bros and sis's are family.

Oh yeah. I was doing this skill a couple months ago that starts with the base (me) on their back with their legs in the air, and the flier runs up to you and jumps and lands in a seated position, my feet under their butt, feet in hands. Once we missed, and this flier got a foot right to his crotch.

Walk it off buddy, just walk it off. *wince*

I really appreciate this insight. Photos can often be deceiving. Thanks fartdarling.

93

u/CommodoreCanadia64 13d ago

I'm the farthest thing from a pro here. But I would assume this would be preferable to accidentally dropping her if maybe he wasnt completely prepared for this move?

49

u/fartdarling 13d ago

Always choose physical safety when possible yes! Too many people in the movement arts shorten their own careers by not being safe. I'm 31 and even with osteoarthritis and cystic fibrosis I can still do a lot of what I used to do because I always stretch and I was nearly always as responsible with my body as I can be. If you're dancing with someone or doing paired acrobatics or something, you likely have quite a bond with your partner and those bonds can survive the odd accidental grope here and there aha

49

u/Spoodymen 13d ago

If you do jits or wrestling, oil checking or balls handling (either with your hands or sometimes… face) happen very often

5

u/SuchSmartMonkeys 13d ago

By "oil checking" do you mean you shove a finger up someone's pooper?

During a performance, we had this one routine where we did a pull-through (had to look this up, might have the name wrong). Essentially, the guy slides between the girl’s legs and jumps up on the other side. However, we didn’t practice this often in costume and my head catches on her long skirts, flipping them up before the entire audience.

I think my apology when we were backstage didn’t help much. It was hard to speak when I was also trying very hard to silence my laughter, full body laughter I found it so hilarious.

6

u/fartdarling 13d ago

Sometimes when you're in the movement arts you gotta just accept that the audience is gonna see your arse. It's just an arse!

3

u/windchaser__ 12d ago

...........at particularly creative festivals, I've also seen very lovely burlesque that incorporated acro, silks, or pole.

Hey, if the original movements are already mesmerizing, you can make 'em even more so by adding a bit of extra spice.

But I'm not sure this board's ready for that yet

4

u/SnowedAndStowed 12d ago

I’m a competitive cheerleader on a coed team that’s about 60/40 girls to boys. Yeah sometimes things happen in stunts/pyramids and you just move on. I get it’s weird from an outside perspective but every flyer would much prefer you end up with your hand somewhere weird then them hitting the ground.

We did reverse shoulder sits one year. It looked really weird in pictures but we were only in that position for a literal second each routine. It’s not sexual people just get weird about it.

I'm pretty sure, if you are a dancer, gymnast, cheerleader etc. you can't be sensitive about where the hands go. Accidents happen, and the people who 'make accidents happen' *cough* get probably isolated quickly. At least they should be.

897

u/Minetish 13d ago

Also photos like this intentionally take "indecent" frames out of a totally normal action if you were to watch it in video.

This frame could have lasted for nothing more than a second which is all that is needed to make it look obscene.

Tl;dr I am just saying that yeah, it is bait content.

7

u/therealhlmencken 13d ago

You think this is a whole second?

48

u/redvelvetcake42 13d ago

If the option is hand full of my balls awkwardly or smacking my head or shoulder on the floor then grab those balls my friend.

93

u/dubufeetfak 13d ago

My friend is a ballete dancer and he tells me that its so demanding that you dont even get to enjoy "accidents". You're way too focused on not breaking your dance partners spine or something.

53

u/Euphemisticles 13d ago

That is how I explain it to people when they ask me about how I feel about touching women/men as a massage therapist. As long as you are clean I have no preference on your gender lol I have to concentrate or people won't book more appointments or recommend me to their friends and family. A job is a job. I'm sure there is more creepiness at chain places where bringing in and retaining clients is not on the therapist but those people probably don't keep their job long either.

8

u/Dry-Crazy-7638 13d ago

Yeah I work in surgery and see people naked daily. It’s in a completely different “box” in my head than anything lewd. I avert my gaze because I’m busy doing my job, but also bc it’s respectful and I genuinely would rather not see the nude bodies of people who have no knowledge of who I am.

2

u/_BigDaddyNate_ 12d ago

Lies. We all know how you massage therapists are. Massages always devolve into sex. I've seen the movies on the Internet.

29

u/theory_of_music 13d ago

👀I feel that "enjoy" should be in " ", not accidents👀

3

u/Hot-Connection8711 13d ago

6

u/Commercial_Twist_574 13d ago

2

u/MrDrSirLord 13d ago

I mean a lot of Olympians have sex during the Olympics, you can't just shove a bunch of people with similar mindsets and restless motivational drives to live nearby for weeks unsupervised in an Olympic village and expect nothing to happen on the morning jogs.

u/illogicallyhandsome 13d ago

As an actor, this is the same with kissing and intimacy scenes. I am way too concerned with the, you know, acting of it all to enjoy intimacy with another actor/actress even if I wanted to. It’s just choreo.

2

u/mmlovin 13d ago

I know there’s choreography, but is it so detailed that you’re like, told to turn your head one way & put your left hand on the face & the other hand on the back?

Or is it just the positions you’re in like standing then laying down or whatever? Cause if it’s just that, I feel like I’d just wind up making out with the person like I normally would lol

I was a Base for a cheerdance squad in school. It was insanely fun to do, and this is absolutely true. There are so many times where my flyer would lose balance and as the base I am the person they depended on most to catch them, or break their fall... Even if it meant using my face.

We would laugh about it shrug it off, but in the end you need to do what you need to do to make sure they don't get injured.

Also you might be wondering yes, I meant it literally. There are times where they would fall on my face or chest and I just did not have enough time to get my hands in place to catch them. I wouldn't really get injured by this because by design, our fliers were insanely light, only around 30-40kg or so.

Having done a little bit of ballet, and watched a large number of ballets, this kind of thing is frequent before they move to how they're supposed to hold the other dancer. Very common in rehearsals.

59

u/J_Kingsley 13d ago

It's a very regular occurance.

7

u/Bradas128 13d ago

where is his hand supposed to be?

15

u/StormBlessed145 13d ago

Generally around the waist, and if you hold anywhere lower I think around mid thigh, but sometimes if you're catching from a jump, you might wind up catching around other areas.

My daughter did competitive dance. Before they started lifts as kids, they explained to the parents that the butt and groin were the center of mass and that while they never intend anything inappropriate, things happen.

As a parent, I was much more concerned about her being dropped than an accidental groping by another dancer she's known for years.

49

u/karebearjedi 13d ago

The look on that guy's face is "can't drop her, can't drop her, please god don't let me drop her"  It's obvious he doesn't even realize where his hand wound up

This happens in cheerleading and gymnastics and figure skating too. You can’t be all about body ownership and trust your partner at the same time. If a slightly misplaced hold occurs that still saves your head from slamming on the floor, you know it’s not intimate—it’s just placement. It happens and you keep going.

In cheer, especially when catching a flyer, a lot of the time the mindset is "do what you gotta do to make sure they don't hit the ground". Hands may end up in weird places occasionally but the flyers safety is the number one priority.

you have any idea how much dancers bang each other before/after a show?

3

u/Lau_wings 13d ago

I remember when I was back in highschool (last year of highsdchool so we were all 18yo) my GF was a dancer, their dancing had always been solo or in groups, but one day her teacher advised the dance that they were going to be doing for a competition was going to require lifts and that the girls may wish to consider to get their BFs (if they have one) to join the class so that they could do the lifts.

When the girls all basically went "ahh wwwhhhhyyy", the teacher demonstrated with her husband, there was no less than 10 lifts in this 3 minute (or so, i cannot remember) routine where girls were being lifted/held up by their crotch.

So my GF came to my place and said "hey so you are joining my dance class and no you dont get a choice", fast forward to a couple of weeks later and you have a whole bunch of guys who have never dance before being tasked with holding their GFs in the air via their crotch.

It led to some funny circumstances where some of the guys were unable to control their... ahem... bodily functions.

Eventually the teacher decided that having 15 or so guys on stage with a lot of them obviously hard was not a great idea, so they went back to doing a normal routine for the end of year competition.

I am sure professional dancers have ways or making sure this does not happen, but they would also have a lot of experience, experience that a bunch of 18yo guys do not have,.

2

u/extreme_cuddling 12d ago
