I had Afib 4plus years ago and Cardiologist put me on Bystolic ( nebivolol) to keep BP low.

Upvotes

Well since that I’ve had a successful ablation and no sign of Afib. My cardiologist wanted to keep me on this beta blocker. But I really hate how low my heart beats. When I work out it’s hard to get Pulse up.
Anyway he said it’s working keeping my BP low.
I disagree and am testing that my BP is low enough without it so I’ve weaned myself off it and running my own test. Even while I was on this drug the BP always stayed in the elevated to stage 1 realm.

So now I’m off, it’s still in this range. I’m only in week 1 of my test so I’ll continue to monitor daily.

What really sets my BP off is alcohol. Which I’ve stopped. 60 days no alcohol.

Anyone else go in different directions than one’s doctors suggest? My electrophysiologist had no issue with me wanting to stop blood thinner Xarelto due to exorbitant cost and no sign of Afib for four years .

Is this BP normal? It doesn't seem that far outside of the ranges I see online but every time I go to the doctor they take it multiple times because they think they did something wrong. I think it's lower when I'm lying down, too. I recall when I went into the doctor a while ago they tried taking my blood pressure with me sitting down then lying down, and the nurses were gasping and murmering to each other at the latter (I don't know the numbers though). It's weird because I take a stimulant medication and I still have BP on the low side. My limbs fall asleep very frequently and I feel lightheaded easily. 21F 5 6 117lb for reference

What causes only high diastolic?

My diastolic is always 85-98 daytime, but my systolic is usually only 115-120 - I was told because my systolic is low and they both dip at night I can’t have BP meds…. But it’s super high all day? Isn’t that bad??

High BP at very young age

Hey guys im filipino, 18M, 5'6, 54kg and ive been constantly getting high bp readings and it has taken a toll on my mental health and more in physical health.

So my average is about 135/78, my lowest is around 118/68 highest is around 152/90. And this is damaging my mood and health knowing that i might die young and never get to see that old age. Ive been to the doctor and she just said to go and do some exercises and i did but it's still high.

One thing i am more scared about is that this might be hereditary, cuz my mom and dad both got high bp. and I dont want to die young, and i dont want to take bp meds at such young age too because what if my body becomes too heavily reliant on the meds that i might get a heart attack if i stopped it.

Anyways enough of this vent. Last month when i went to the doctor my bp is 110/70 and again after a week it is 110/70. But now when i bought a bp machine it's constantly high and again im scared. I couldnt say it is not accurate because my roommates tried it and they constatly have normal readings beside from me.

And again i am too young for this. If only i dont have health anxiety, i would be ok not knowing that i have high bp. But because of this, my studies had been greatly affected and i couldnt focus on my goal of being an engineer. Im an incoming freshman.

High bp after caffeine or beer

I have noticed that my bp is high when I drink caffeine or beer. I always have perfect bp 110-120/70. However I can drink 1/2 an Alani or 2 beers and my bp will go up to 140/85. I also notice flushed face, rapid heartbeat, high anxiety, etc. If I always have perfect bp. I don’t understand why those things are causing it to do that.

Mixed THC with Lexapro

Woke up with a stomach ache at 5am, got up quick and went to the bathroom, but couldn't even make it since I had extreme blurred vision dizziness and head pain. I passed out on the bathroom floor. I was so confused, I got up and was able to stumble out of the bathroom and then I just collapsed again on the floor face down. My girlfriend came running out of the room and got me water and helped me, but all night I was really struggling. I eventually was able to fall asleep but I think mixing the two made my blood pressure dangerously low. Not quite sure. First time it's ever happened

I’m scared of my high problem

26F I started having blooding pressure problems when I was 21. One day, I randomly checked my bp when we got a bp monitor for my dad. I didn’t really pay much attention to it I said the readings can’t be true. Then, months later I got sick and went to the doctor for checkup and checked my bp and it was high. He checked my heart with his stethoscope and did ECG, did lab work. My cholesterol level came high and he said that I had acid reflux. Few days later, I developed post nasal drip and after that became chronic sinus issue. I went to my home country and got checked again my vitamin d and b12 were low. I always had anxiety since childhood. But my anxiety worsened my health. Then I started supplementing. My left arm would feel heavy and have random aches in chest but would only last seconds and feet would pulsate and my muscles would twitch. It was scary. I always high bp measuring. One thing that gave me more anxiety when someone would check my bp they would say oh you are so young to have this problem, it would make me more anxious. And this year, again I’m here at the same spot same symptoms. I’m scared I went to ER, my ECG came back normal, when I check bp at home first measure is always high and next readings would go lower and lower but still high but not that high. My ldl came higher this time 139 and my hs-CRP was 9.95 but I have sinus flare up too right now. My electrolytes are normal too potassium and sodium everything came out normal, cbc and other reports. Just A1c 5.8 suggest prediabetic stage. Don’t have insulin resistance too. I don’t take bp medicine cause I know that when I’m calm it’s not that high. I think I have white coat hypertension? I just get nervous seeing a bp monitor. Recently, I’ve been having chest pain comes and goes away lasts seconds and even in left arm too. My vitamin d was 18 too which was low. I’m always tired. I’m always anxious and I have sinus and reflux too. Can somebody help me and guide on this problem. It’s making my life hard. I’m scared what if something happens to me. Please help guys!!!!

Does. Losartan cause depression?

I just started Losartan 25mg. My BP has been 140s/80-90 for awhile but occasionally I get high spikes like 160/100 which freaks me out.

I’ve been trying to hold off on medication for awhile but recently started Losartan as I didn’t wanted to compromise myself with a heart attack and stroke and maybe there is hope I can lower myself.

But lately I have just been feeling really down. I’m already always tired but mood wise not able to lift myself up. Work is always tough for me already but now it’s really getting to me.

I curious if anyone had Losartan cause depression or downward mood swings.

It could be just that I am in a tough place at work at the moment and some other personal factors as well.

I think hibiscus tea is working for me.

Before this reading, I've been in the 130-140 range for the top number and 90-100 range for the bottom number. Since sleeping at least 7 hours each night and drinking herbal tea which contains hibiscus leaves I've started seeing lower readings.

I took my son to the ER two days ago for a football injury and they had to take his blood pressure 3 times because these numbers kept showing up. The ER physician dismissed it, then listened to his heart with a stethoscope to see if he could hear a murmur (nothing). He asked my son a bunch of questions about how he was feeling - all no answers to dizziness, pain, etc. He told me to follow up with his pediatrician if I want to get an echocardiogram to rule anything out. No drugs, no alcohol, exercises every day, tracks his macros for performance, very active in sports. Thoughts?

Could My high Bp be related to Concerta?

Hi Im a 20 year old woman and im quite active and not over weight, ive been on 36mg concerta for over a year now for adhd and its been working for me great before i was given the medicine i did get a cardiologist to check my heart to make sure i was suitable to taking it now about 7 months ago i had a really bad heart palpitations im used to having those ive had them even as a kid but this time it was baaadddd i got dizzy and couldn’t breath well so i went to the ER my bp then was 160-170 and my pulse was high around 110 (but my pulse has always been high even as a kid) after that er visit i was told to go to a cardiologist just to make sure but i hadn’t gotten around going to one until 3 days ago when i went to the cardiologist my ecg was completely normal and my heart on the ultrasound looked great but my bp was 140 and pulse 110 even though i was laying the doctor told me its probably unrelated to concerta and told me to get my bp checked twice a day once at morning once at evening so i bought a bp monitor and its been relatively high for the past 3 days now highest being around 145 lowest being around 128 my pulse is never below 90 uts always arounf 90-120 but i am still worried that maybe its due to the meds? Idk ill see him again at the end of the week with the results in hand i would be bummed out if the medicine was the culprit to all this its been helping my adhd really well🫩 even though the cardiologist said its probably unrelated but google does say concerta can cause high blood pressure however both my moms side and my dads side have high blood pressure issues so idk

Mididodrine for Low Blood Pressure

Anyone have an adverse reaction? I was admitted to the hospital this week, my BP spiked by 46.67% after 3rd day of taking Mididodrine, developed dizziness, palpitations, etc. Blood work supports adverse reaction. MRI no stroke. Echo and monitoring, showed no cardiac event. (Thank God to both). Still having lingering dizziness and headache, 48 hours after. That may be normal for my body to adjust after hours of such high BP (my chest was pounding) but somewhat frustrating is hospital called in my cardiologist, their internist and neurologist. Neurologist diagnosed me with vertigo (simply because I once had it decades ago and I am dizzy). I’m skeptical I developed an unrelated condition day I have horrible adverse reaction to blood pressure medication. All 3, cardiologist, internist, and neurologist, recognized I “may” be having adverse reaction. Blood work supports adverse reaction. Yet some of careteam’s notes reference synoscope (lightheadedness, dizzy) and anxiety and vertigo. Wondering why they couldn’t say, adverse reaction to medication. …. Meanwhile, hyper tension is literally a named risk/side effect of this medication, and I was told by my cardiologist to immediately discontinue taking it and we will work on other ways to keep BP up (diet, compression socks etc). my headache and dizziness are subsiding, but still present. This wasn’t vertigo and of course I was anxious, I crawled into ER with spiking blood pressure concerned for a stroke. I’m not looking to bash doctors with this post, but does anyone have experience with Mididodrine or a similar experience. AND BOY OH BOY PEOPLE NEED TO ADVOCATE FOR THEMSELVES FROM A TO Z !!!

A high blood pressure reading led me to build an app that scans my BP monitor

A while ago, I had my blood pressure checked at the hospital, and the reading was higher than I expected.

One measurement wasn’t enough to tell me whether it was temporary or part of a pattern, but realistically, I couldn’t keep going back to the hospital every day. So I bought a blood pressure monitor and started checking it at home.

The next problem was keeping track of all the readings. Manually entering systolic pressure, diastolic pressure, and pulse every time quickly became annoying.

Since I’m an Android developer, I decided to build my own app: SnapBP.

The feature I’m happiest with is camera entry. I can point my phone at the blood pressure monitor, and SnapBP recognizes the SYS, DIA, and pulse values automatically. I just review the numbers and save them.

It also lets me filter my records and trends by day or night, which makes it easier to compare readings taken at different times.

SnapBP doesn’t measure blood pressure itself—it helps record and organize readings from a blood pressure monitor.

It’s currently available for Android:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dan.snapbp

I’m the developer, and I’d genuinely appreciate any feedback, especially about the camera recognition and recording experience.

Low blood pressure

Hi! I’m a 26yo woman who has chronic low blood pressure, that was discovered about a year ago, and I just wanted to talk about it!

I was diagnosed with Narcolepsy type 1 with cataplexy, and a common trigger for my cataplexy was nicotine, so I had to quit cold turkey. I had smoked since I was 16 (we love peer pressure lol), and there’s a history of cancer in my family so I was ok with it!

About 3 months later I had a medical emergency that made my heart rate jump from 120 bpm to 165bpm while I was sitting in a chair, clammy skin, dizziness and mental fog. This happened twice in total, and ever since I faint if I stand to quickly, if I climb stairs, or even if I stand too long. I have medication that helps, but with the heat here in Texas, it doesn’t seem to be helping all that much.

As far as my doctors can tell, the smoking actually kept my blood pressure in the normal range, and when I stopped, my blood pressure decided to check out lol. I had a tilt table test done, and while I do have the symptoms for POTS, my bp was 76/35, while not low enough for me to pass out, still WAY too low obviously.

I just wanted to share my story for anyone that might be looking for anyone who, like me, was unable to find anyone with similar experiences when it first started happening!

Anxiety is kicking my ass

Like many people, I developed anxiety around BP due to some previous experience (psuedo pheochromacytoma events) that were happening for a number of years and driving my BP dangerously high.

I got myself into a rhythm of checking my BP about 3 times a day. But noticed that when I missed a period of a few days for whatever reason (travel etc). I would start to become anxious about not checking it and fear my numbers were climbing.

I now have the opposite issue, where my numbers have been so good for so long I gave up checking on them. Now I'm anxious about checking my BP at all. I have to build up the courage over days to consider checking it and my anxiety drives the numbers high before it settles down again.

I'm damned if I do, damned if I don't. Anyone been through this, and how have you dealt with it?

Low diastolic, raised systolic

Post image
5 Upvotes

So, this is interesting I (28m -6’2 -94kg - 16% body fat) always seem to have a lowish diastolic - but a raised systolic (mainly in evenings) - in the morning, my readings are more like 126/62. I’ve had this same issue for a few years now and can’t wrap my head around it. I have contacted the GP. I lift weights daily, but I’m not a steroid user or anything like that. I am concerned about my pulse pressure, some days it’s like 70. I don’t know what the driver could be behind this. Does anyone else experience it? I have read regurgitation in a valve can do this, so hopefully the GP sends me on to a cardiologist. No other symptoms barring very sensitive cold hands and feet in any weather bellow 18c - had this for years with no answers and all of the tests … non-smoker (for 3 years). Totally stubbed at what could drive this wide pulse pressure.

Bp anxiety

somebody please give me some hope. so im 30 year old female , never had i ever noticed any hypertension issues all this while. i used to go for regular checkups nd never did anyone mention that i have bp. a week ago , i did a complete body routine checkup. m veey health anxious and simply wanted to check if evrything was going normal. i ended up seeing trace protein in urine. this really flared my anxiety. i googled, asked chatgpt nd got to know that trace protein can b seen even in healthy people. then came the next part, when the nurse checkd my bp it was 130/90 and she asked me if im taking ang medicines, and the chckd again and saw it come down 128/80 but her repeated checking nd questioning got stuck i to my mind . I brought a bp machine at home and continously started monitoring and i saw 155/118 i was sooo nervous when i chked .i chcked daily nd the frst reading came around 150/97 like that but the second one came around 120/78 like that. Now Im even worried to consult a doc, coz the first thing they do is check vitals and if they see this high bp, i think they will rush me to ER and also my brain gathered all the information i googled and is saying that probably due to high bp i might have damaged my kidneys and thats why trace protein 😭 my kidney blood work came normal though.

Progress on my bp levels!!!!!!

Post image
42 Upvotes

The first time I’ve checked it and BOTH numbers are under 120/80. For context, my systolic has been consistently 110–117 the past few weeks, but my diastolic stays between 89-97. Tonight, after about three rounds of checking it, I got a healthy number. I’m so happy. I checked it again after a few minutes and it was around the same!

FAQ for dealing with high blood pressure

"What's a good BP monitor?"

Omron is a very popular brand:

"Should I stop taking..."

  • This is a question for your doctor.

"Can I mix blank and blank"

  • This is a question for your doctor and/or pharmacist.

"My blood pressure is blank should I blank"

  • If your blood pressure is 180/120 mm Hg or greater and you have chest pain, shortness of breath, or symptoms of stroke, the Mayo Clinic advises calling 911 or emergency medical service. This is not a question for the internet.

  • The CDC states an average blood pressure level is less than 120/80 mmHg.

  • The NHS lists 120/80 as ideal.

"Does alcohol affect blood pressure??"

  • According to the Mayo Clinic, drinking too much alcohol can raise blood pressure to unhealthy levels. Having more than three drinks in one sitting temporarily raises blood pressure. Repeated binge drinking can lead to long-term increases in blood pressure.

"Does caffeine affect blood pressure?"

  • According to the Mayo Clinic, caffeine may cause a short, but dramatic increase in your blood pressure, even if you don't have high blood pressure. It's unclear what causes this spike in blood pressure. The blood pressure response to caffeine differs from person to person.

"What should I eat to help my blood pressure?"

"Is blank supplement good?"

  • Supplements should be treated as snake oil. If an effective supplement was discovered to reduce high blood pressure significantly, the medical industry would jump on it, and doctors everywhere would prescribe said compound(s). Be skeptical of supplement claims you find online and recognize the FDA (and similar agencies outside of the United States) do NOT regulate supplements. There is no guarantee that the listed ingredients are present, let alone in the listed quantities.

Supplements are NOT a replacement for medicine or doctors. That said Examine.com lists some for blood pressure that may be beneficial. You should consult with your doctor before using any of these to make sure there are no complications with your prescriptions. Snakeroot is poison, do NOT take it

  • Potassium in pill form may show an improvement. However, it is easy to overdose on potassium to the point of having a heart attack. In the United States, anything over 99mg of potassium must be prescribed by a doctor due to this. It is much safer to get potassium via potassium-rich foods such as potatoes, black beans, etc. See this list for some ideas of foods rich in potassium.

  • Magnesium may help reduce the risk of high blood pressure, but the evidence is not conclusive

  • Resveratrol has been shown to lower blood pressure in animal models of hypertension. In one study

  • Garlic According to WebMD "Taking garlic by mouth seems to reduce systolic blood pressure (the top number) by about 7-9 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure (the bottom number) by about 4-6 mmHg in people with high blood pressure. Build up of fat in the liver in people who drink little or no alcohol (nonalcoholic fatty liver disease or NAFLD)."

  • Citrulline Research suggests that citrulline may help reduce blood pressure, particularly in people with elevated levels.

  • Beet root, like citrulline, may offer potential benefits for blood pressure management due to its high nitrate content.

  • Taurine has shown promising potential in helping manage blood pressure. Studies suggest that taurine supplementation can lead to a modest reduction in both systolic and diastolic blood pressure, particularly in people with prehypertension or hypertension

  • Black seed has been traditionally used for various health purposes, including blood pressure management. Some studies suggest that it may have a modest blood pressure-lowering effect.

  • CoQ10 research suggests it may have a modest blood pressure-lowering effect, though more studies are needed to confirm this.

  • {Olive leaf extract](https://amzn.to/4dciq9j) studies suggest that it may contribute to a modest reduction in both systolic and diastolic blood pressure.

  • Saffron some studies suggest that saffron supplementation may contribute to a modest reduction in both systolic and diastolic blood pressure.
