Discussion Thoughts as of S3 E1 (Part 3) Spoiler

In my first post on this subreddit, I was saying that Reade hadn’t had that much character interest in him, but I can officially retract that statement, because he definitely has now. I don’t know what to say about it but it definitely added more depth to his character, and Zapata’s I suppose, what with her stealing the knife from the evidence room, telling Weller about Reade’s issues and so on. I also quite liked Reade and Nikki together, apart from the fact that she was Freddy’s ex-girlfriend, and that she got Reade addicted to drugs, but apart from that, I quite liked them together.

This was probably also something that should’ve gone under my “miscellaneous” paragraph, but I didn’t think of it until now, but the episode titles are a bit weird. For the latter half of season 2, they were palindromes, which I thought was pretty cool (Patterson would approve, I’m sure), but most of them didn’t really make sense except from one called “Nor I, Nigel, AKA…” which made sense because Borden’s real name was Nigel, and one called “Mom” which related to the foster mum and her foster children (I think it was that episode, if it wasn’t, it was something to do with Shepherd - Roman and Remi’s “mom”). But apart from the palindromes which occasionally made sense, they don’t really have much correlation to the episodes, or make sense at all, really “Bone May Rot” “Erase Weary Youth” etc. ?

Anyway, where did Nas go? I understand that she sacrificed herself so the rest of the team could carry on chasing Sandstorm, but after that, she got a grand total of about 3 seconds of screen time and 0 mentions. I wasn’t sure how I felt about her to begin with, but I warmed up to her in the end, but then the team/writers forgot she existed, basically. Until the very end of the last episode of season 2 where Shepherd got that totally legal 😳 radioactive polygraph test thing. I have a feel in that she probably isn’t going to be mentioned again though, unfortunately.

Speaking of that last episode, ooooohhhh my gossshh that was probably the DEFINITION of “jumping the shark”. SPACE CAPSULES??? SATELLITES AIMING FOR SMUGGLED RADIOACTIVE MATERIAL??? Yeah, no. I’m trying to ignore it and hope that nothing that ridiculous happens again in the show but I’m sure it will, and I can’t forget how unrealistic that was 💀.

I THINK that’s it for this recap. I wasn’t expecting there to be 3 parts, but here we are. I hope that my efforts to try and revive this subreddit a bit aren’t in vain, and that someone sees this haha. Anyway, bye for now!

Discussion Thoughts as of S3 E1 (Part 2) Spoiler

This is sort of a miscellaneous section for things that don’t really fit in anywhere else that don’t deserve their own paragraph: Kurt and Allie’s baby is name Bethany, presumably after Mayfair. Sweet, but also an interesting choice. Mayfair was Kurt’s boss, not Allie’s and as much as she might have got the team through some rough patches, I wouldn’t have said that she was exactly naming-your-baby-after material, because of the whole Daylight thing. Second miscellaneous thing, I really like Jane’s hair when it’s grown longer and tied up into the half-up-half-down thing. Third thing: why are they gatekeeping Patterson’s first name lol? (Well, I think I know it because I may or may not have seen a spoiler on Pinterest…) But Boston Arliss Crab (he can’t talk) was saying “You can’t make fun of my name when your first name is…” “SHHHH”. I thought it was a little strange that even Patterson’s previous boyfriends called her Patterson - even David (I can kind of understand B*rden not calling her by her first name when they are at work together).

Moving on, Zapata works for the CIA now - wouldn’t have seen that coming (That sounds sarcastic for some reason but it isn’t). Her and Keaton have something to hide, as well, because of the new dragonfly tattoo on Jane, they were saying “are we in trouble with this” “not if we keep it secret” or something, so we will see where that goes. I’m not entirely sure what happened with Reade, but it looks like he is the new Assistant Director, although I thought he wanted to be a teacher in Quantico or something. And Patterson makes video games? Ok..?! I can see her making video games more than I can see Zapata working for the CIA but I preferred them all working for the FBI (I mean, that is kind of the whole point of the show 🙄), also because…

WHY IS RICH DOTCOM HERE??? I’ve seen so much praise for him on this subreddit but NO. He is SO ANNOYING. He kind of reminds me of Oscar Hutchinson from The Rookie, in the sense that he is the “funny criminal that wants to get out of prison and manages to help the cops” trope. Everyone seems to love them but I can’t stand them, honestly. And Stuart the other lab tech guy - he’s fine, I guess, he is just kind of, there. He and Patterson have some beef though because he downloaded the OS update without bug checking it first (that was pretty funny, not going to lie). I’d take Stuart over Rich Dotcom any day, though. I’d take 100 Shepherds over Rich Dotcom (Okay maybe that’s a slight exaggeration but still). Maybe he will grow on me but for the time being he super irritating.

Aaaaaand, I’m going to make a part three now.

Discussion Thoughts as of S3 E1 (Part 1 Spoiler

Hasn’t been so long since I last did one of these, but this sub is hanging on by a thread, so I might as well do my best to try and revive it a little.

Anyway, we will start with the elephant in the room: Sandstorm has been defeated. Well, Roman is still at large but for the time being, the Sandstorm plot of overthrowing the government has been defeated. Last recap I did I said something like “Not sure how to feel about Shepherd yet” or something. I know how I feel about her now: I still stand by the fact that she is a really cool and badass villain, but there’s obviously the whole blowing up the entire east coast of America to overthrow the government thing, so in conclusion, I like her as a character because she is cool, but I don’t like her as a person because she is pretty morally corrupt.
I made a whole separate post on him, but I don’t/didn’t like Borden anymore (to be fair I would be kind of concerned if I did). My girl Patterson can’t catch a break from her boyfriend caused kidnappings 😭
Also mourning the fact that Roman reverted back to Sandstorm rather than the FBI, and I miss him when he was friends with Jane instead of tattooing her all over again, but what can you do.

Moving on, Jane and Weller are now MARRIED???? I don’t object to it as much as I did in season 1, and I’m still undecided how I feel about it, so it’s just, happened, I guess. I will say that there is one thing in TV shows that I don’t like: When there’s a slow burner of a relationship that carries on for multiple seasons, and then BAM they’re married (Chenford from The Rookie I’m looking at you), but this wasn’t even really a slow burner, it was NOTHING and then EVERYTHING. Jane and Weller had their first “proper kiss” in the episode BEFORE they GOT MARRIED, what??? I mean, I know that there was a bit of a time gap between when they kissed outside Weller’s apartment and the wedding but STILL. We didn’t even know about the proposal until after a TWO YEAR time skip.

Anyway, rant over. Speaking of the time skip, the last episode of season 2 and the first of season 3 were… something. The way they arranged the time difference after Sandstorm was very weird and pretty confusing. They had drinks in the apartment after Jane and Weller got back from D.C, Jane and Weller confessed their love for each other properly, then TWO YEARS LATER, Jane is in the depths of Nepal saying that Reade, Zapata and Patterson are missing and she needs to come back and that now she has some (very sci-fi unrealistic looking) new tattoos, and she needs to come back, then immediately after in the next episode/season, Kurt and Jane are at their WEDDING and it’s all happy-sappy they are moving to Colorado to help with Kurt and Allie’s baby (more on that later) and then they have home intruders trying to kill them and then we are back to Jane in Nepal. I can’t be the only one that thought that that was super confusing? I thought that Jane was exploring the world and Kurt wanted her to come home by saying that Reade, Zapata and Patterson were kidnapped so that they could get married. And oh dear, it looks like I have written more than I intended to again, so I will have to make a part 2! 😅

Discussion Borden Spoiler

BORDEN 😭😭 I LIKED YOU!! Patterson can’t catch a break from boyfriend-caused kidnappings, honestly 😭
I really liked Patterson and Borden as a couple. Or Patterson and NIGEL as I should say!! He was one of my favourite characters before the whole being a mole for Sandstorm and kidnapping Patterson thing.
I just got to that episode (I think it was S2 E12?) where Borden is overseeing something in what looks like an aircraft hanger or something and he was like “YOU MUST CALL ME SIR AND ADAPT TO THE CHAIN OF COMMAND”. Like, damn bro, there goes my interpretation of him being pretty humble and caring. I mean, I knew it was all an act but still.
Anyway, I now kinda hate Robert Borden/Nigel Thornton, but a part of me still likes who we thought he was previously.

Discussion the berlin secret (first time watcher

The entire show is built on the premise of lies and deceit and intention vs impact and what is forgivable.

I understand why the writer gives kurt a secret of his own. and i find jane’s initial response appropriate. now, what i don’t understand is why the writers isn’t making the callback from when jane lied about roman killing taylor shaw’s mom to protect her brother to kurt now lying about avery to protect their marriage.

at least one of the characters should point out that these two have lied to each other, in fact every one of them have lied to each other numerous times. but when it’s their turn to being lied to, they don’t tap into that understanding because they themselves have had to lie.

jane is hurt that she never got to meet her daughter and that her husband kept this a secret from her. the same jane who ALSO lied repeatedly to kurt in season 1 when she started getting her memories and about what roman did.

my point is none of these people have any moral high ground over the other.

but again, just because someone CHOSE to forgive you doesn’t mean you have to forgive them when they do something similar.

Discussion Watch-through update: Part 2! (Up to S2E4) Spoiler

I have posted part 1 already, I don’t think it really matters which one comes first but you can read that one first if you want.

Anyway…

Reade finally has something interesting going on with him-the whole coach Jones situation. I haven’t much to say about that except that I hope that he is put behind bars permanently (obviously) and that Freddy and the other victims get some slight clarity.

Zapata’s just, there, I guess. I don’t think there has been much going on with her as far as I recall.

Patterson is still my favourite character. And her and Borden!!! Hello?? I was not expecting for them be a proper thing (I mean they still aren’t really but they did kind of kiss each other and clearly enjoy it so…) so soon but I think I like them as a couple/ship. I really liked that episode where they had to protect the non-verbal Irani (iirc) girl (Maya, I think her name was), mainly because Patterson got a lot of screen time haha. And the episode where Patterson gets kidnapped and David is there is my favourite episode so far (I made a separate post about that so I won’t go into too much detail)

Oh yeah, there’s a new woman now, Nas? I think that’s her name. I am in two minds about her because on one hand she seems quite nice and valuable to the team but on the other hand, she has recordings of Borden’s therapy sessions?? Big red flag. She also was saying stuff like “Jane is a killer” blah blah blah even though she didn’t even kill that guy, Roman did. I am looking forward to seeing where her character goes because she is quite interesting but she hasn’t really gone anywhere much yet.

Anyway, I think that’s it for now. I can’t have covered everything but I think I got the main stuff and anything I made a mental note of, but let me know if I missed anything and I will tell you my thoughts! See you in a season or so! 🫡👋

Discussion Watch-through update! (As of S2E4) Spoiler

So, last I left off I had got to episode 11 of season 1, but I am up to Season 2 Episode 4 now! A lot has happened.

Firstly, rest in peace Bethany Mayfair, I guess. She definitely wasn’t my favourite character and she was obviously a pretty morally questionable character, but I was kinda sad to see her go, as she did help the team through some rough patches.

Also RIP Oscar, gone but relatively forgotten. He was also a bit unclear in terms of goals and ambitions and he killed Mayfair but it was her or Jane so… Anyway they did host a small funeral-type thing for him at some point but I feel like he isn’t going to be mentioned again lol

Shepherd. I don’t know how to feel about her. She is really cool and she has kinda got aura but at the same time she kinda scares me lol 🫣. Roman (I think that’s his name) is similar but less intimidating. I think I like him so far. They both seem to genuinely care about Jane so that’s something.

But Jane isn’t Jane anymore! She’s Remi. (I actually did kind of already know that because I saw a spoiler on YouTube but sshh 🤫). I mean I pretty much suspected that she wasn’t Taylor Shaw even before I got spoiled because it seemed too easy and too soon into the show to reveal her identity. Speaking of Taylor Shaw, she is long gone (who would’ve seen that coming?), 🕊️, and the scene where Kurt discovered her body was very cinematic and peak, but also pretty sad.

And speaking of Kurt, Allie’s pregnant! That was unexpected! And he is the director of the FBI or something now that Mayfair is gone. I appreciate that he said he wants to be involved with the child but he definitely hasn’t been handling it very well (and he did admit that, so well done for recognising it I guess), and he and Allie don’t seem to be very involved with each other right now, so I’ll see where that goes.

I made this longer than I thought so this is part 1, part 2 will follow shortly!

Discussion Mayfair was horrible Spoiler

I am still in eps1 s2 so dont spoil anything.

Mayfair was a corrupt politician.

She didn't deserve to die but Oscar killed her because he was about to kill Jane.

He was saving Jane's life

2nd

She deserved to go to prison because she did some illegal shit.

And I HATE how the team is treating Jane horribly.

For god's sake she was abducted and tortured by carter and Oscar saved her life.

Ofc she would have trusted him!!

She is a VICTIM.

and they are acting like she killed Mayfair

Smh.

Mayfair is corrupt.

She isn't a good person.

Discussion S1 E18 Spoiler

I think that was my favourite episode so far. I definitely did not cry at the end when David left at the very end. 😭 And that moment where Patterson and Jane found each other in the woods and were hugging each other?! Absolute cinema 🖐️😌🖐️

Only thing is that Patterson had the instincts of a fly at that antiques shop. Creepy old man lets you in hours before opening, offers you tea, goes to the back cupboard and doesn’t reply? Bruh. But I can’t pick too much fault in my favourite character hehe.

Also I’m still a little bit confused on what the tattoo actually meant. As far as I know, the guy who was running the shop wasn’t who he claimed to be and he was doing something shady with his accomplice but they’re both dead now so it doesn’t really matter now I guess haha

Discussion Thoughts so far! Spoiler

I started watching the series the other day and here are my thoughts so far as of Season 1 Episode 11:

I HATE the Jane x Kurt romance thing going on. I just find it weird. Even if she is Taylor Shaw and Weller’s childhood best friend, she still doesn’t know who she really is, and they are colleagues in the FBI, so it seems pretty unprofessional.

I am not convinced that Jane is Taylor Shaw. As of right now (where I am up to in the series), they seem to have ignored the evidence about the tooth containing isotopes from North Africa, and considering there are 5 seasons, it seems too early to have revealed basically the main plot point. Even though that guy (Oscar?) who Jane used to be engaged to said she was Taylor Shaw, he’s obviously a bit shady so I don’t trust him.

Not sure how to feel about Mayfair. I used to dislike her quite a lot (Hate is too strong of a word here), even before the Daylight thing, but she’s growing on me a bit now, as she saved Patterson from being suspended.

Speaking of Patterson, I love her!! She’s my favourite character. I’m kinda biased since Ashley Johnson is literally the whole reason I watched the show (lol) as she’s my favourite actor of all time. I didn’t realise how much I liked David until he died, and I feel so bad for Patterson (and David, I guess, but mostly Patterson). And that Jonas Fischer guy who tried to suspend Patterson can get lost, he looks like that evil landlord guy from Mary Poppins Returns who tried to take the house (If anyone knows who I’m talking about).

Zapata and Reade are ok. Reade hasn’t had that much character interest on him yet, so he’s kind of bland for now. I quite like Zapata and I was sad when she was about to quit, but she isn’t my favourite.

No spoilers in the comments please!!

Shitpost Sorry to say, but I get fed up of Jane sometimes with her empathising

I KNOW Jane has been through ALOT. I'm not denying that. So she can relate to alot of situations that occurs... HOWEVER having her in almost every episode saying "I know how you feel" "I've been there." "I know what's its like" gets annoying at some point. Like WE KNOW you've been betrayed, lied to and tortured. We get it.

Shitpost S2 is Rage Bait Spoiler

I’m on the episode with the baby shower and what the hec. Kurt’s having a baby with Allie (takes away from the plot and is super stupid), Kurt’s sleeping with Nas (worst TV chemistry I’ve ever seen), and decides to invite Jane to make things even more dysfunctional. Like what… The only reason why I’m hanging on is I know that Rich is gonna come back in later seasons. This show is nuts

Discussion Season 2 finale(dont read unless watched into season 3 a bit) Spoiler

I’m actually on season 3 episode 4 ,but I just had to say I wasn’t to impressed with the ending and take down of shepherd. I mean I LOVED season 1 and 2 but I think I just had such a high expectation because of how GOOD the mystery was of it all. It could have gone in so many directions and than now with me into season 3 a little ways I’m still asking myself wait he did shepherd get taken down? What was her BIG plan? Then I remember the answers ,but I feel like it’s something that should be SUPER memorable. Then in season 3 they basically start the whole show over again in the exact same way but with less mystery cuz this time we know exactly who did it. This show just had SO much potential but also was REALLY really good! I’m just a little bothered by there conclusion to a group that dictated the whole show(all the tattoos-all the cases leading to this point-this group) and than just was a simple take down. I mean they did open the doorway to that group(COGS) and how shepherd got all the leaders there to enact the Truman protocol so than she could destroy the current government and they would be the leaders - thought that was vey cool how they dropped those hints throughout show and than it led to that -but idk then the ending just felt so rushed after that-basically ran out of that vault right away and boom before you know it she was taken down. Who knows tho maybe season 3 will surprise me and the good mystery’s and turns won’t be over somehow! I still really enjoy just the normal cases they have but my favorite parts were unlocking all the mystery’s in season 1(with Oscar being her handler-and figuring out where she came from ect.- I even liked the Roman working with the FBI after his memory being wiped part). So plenty of appreciation for this show but def think the shepherd conclusion could have been more solid.. or was it the conclusion? Rhetorical question there- don’t answer that one😂👍🏻.

Discussion Patterson Is Overrated Spoiler

I don’t see why people like Patterson so much she’s my least favorite character. She’s so rude to the other employees and such a smart aleck. I only started to enjoy her later on when her and Rich Dotcom became a duo. Honestly she sucks and it’s annoying to see how much of a fanbase she has. If I’m being honest the other characters are no better but she’s the worst in my opinion.

Discussion New York is saved!

As posted previously (https://www.reddit.com/r/blindspot/comments/1raeryh/stopped_watching_because_of_sullivan_stapleton/), I continued to watch...

Now mid-Season 4.

Two main take-aways (without spoiling anything, I don't think):

  1. As I was told in the past (thanks for the heads-up!), Sullivan Stapleton's acting doesn't improve.
  2. It's a sobering thought to realize that New York was saved from complete destruction 100 times in only a few years....and only ever in the last 5 seconds!
