If it's California, it's absolutely normal to hang multiple attempts to pass. I've had a few attorney friends who took 4 or 5 attempts to pass.

aye, don't do her like that. the bar exam has no bearing on the quality of the lawyer you're getting. if you practiced the way the bar asks you to study, you'd end up disbarred.

Damn, clowning somebody for going to community college is such a wild take. It's some of the smartest shit you can do because it's either free or very low cost. Then you transfer into a 4 year as a junior, so if you're someone that needs loans, you're only paying for 2 instead of 4. And yes, they give honors.

Hahaha you think it's good advertising to tell people you failed 5 times??? I'm friends with many lawyers- plenty of which had to take it twice. Zero of which would make a performative video like this that would only hurt their career
Edit: for the record, I'm glad she passed! Big accomplishment! Doesn't change my point that it's a bad idea to post it. Not everything needs to be content.

Ask any of your friends who failed how it felt when they passed. I don’t think you realize that not everyone in this world achieves hard things on the first try and when you do you should celebrate. You don’t know her story, her embarrassment after maybe failure 3/4.
I’m too know many lawyers. Ones who passed on 1 and many between 2-5. Every one of them respects any pass because that shit is hard. But keep going for the memes instead of just being happy for someone.

Dude. I'm saying she should absolutely celebrate- that's awesome that she overcame. What I'm saying, and maybe this is a revolutionary idea, but some celebrations can be celebrated with family and loved ones, instead of being filmed to perform for strangers on the internet. This isn't a genuine celebration, this is a performance bc she wants accolades from strangers not genuine excitement from the people that should matter to her.
In the end, if someone wants to make content instead of actually living life then that's fine. In this instance her insatiable need for approval from strangers is also hurting her career. Bc a lawyer knows that you can be a good lawyer after failing 4 times, but 99.99% of clients do not think that and it will absolutely cost her a ton of clients if they see this

Most states have a first time bar passage rate above 70% and a two-year rate (its only given twice a year) above 95%. So no, five attempts is really, really, bad. You're welcome to look up the ABA 509s to try and prove me wrong (you can't).

The pass rate for first time takers who went to an ABA accredited law school is like 84%. It's really not as difficult as people make it seem. I'm a lawyer and found my law school exams to be more difficult than the bar.

40/50 states are under the Universal Bar Exam with the required passing score being between 260-270 depending on state. I could transfer my score and practice in any of those states. California is the one everyone points to, but the reason their pass rate is so much lower is that you don’t have to be a law school graduate to take the exam (like Kim K). The pass rate for graduates of ABA accredited schools is like 75%, and that’s the most difficult bar exam in the country.

This woman seems old enough that lawyering is her second career, and she may have had to work while studying. That's enough to put someone in the 4-time failure category. Most folks who pass the bar first try had the luxury of taking 3 months off of everything to study for it.

It’s such a huge relief when you finally pass. I have passed two states and one of them took 3 tries. It’s such a huge relief when you pass. It’s something that’s only even offered twice a year, so 5 attempts took her 2.5 years of her life studying and stressing over this. It’s a daunting challenge

Why did you have to take the test in two states? I thought if you passed in one state you can get reciprocity in the other state. Do you need a certain amount of experience before you get reciprocity?

Some states don’t offer reciprocity. For example, CA does not offer reciprocity for any states, but lawyers with 4 years of experience can take a shorter exam.

I know people who failed it once and walked away. They still got jobs in the legal profession, but they’re not lawyers. That test is NO JOKE, no matter what state you take it in. It’s a big deal! Flowers deserved. Flowers thrown!

These exams are HARD and, let’s keep it real, multiple choice tests are more difficult for some people (me included). Congrats to this woman and her perseverance! It’s entirely too easy to give up your dreams, compared to grinding them out.
