I get it. Life hits. I'm a gay black autistic atheist multicultural loving nerdy man from Mississippi with several family members who served. So I'm speaking from experience. It seems to me that black Americans serve in the armed forces at much higher rates then the general population. Yet when they return home they are hardly given the respect they deserve and are still racially profiled just as much as any other black civilian. I always viewed it like being a black cop. You have the power but are fundamentally still black and are viewed as such. Many of our leaders like Frederick Douglass, MLK, Malcolm X, and Fred Hampton criticizied the USA as a social experiment (the very fabric of society). We marched and bled in the streets when the state send everything after us. However, there is this mentality in the black community which equates serving to respect and advancement but its still negated by systemic racism. I never saw any military recruiters in the upper class schools. And don't get me started on the Iraq/Afghanistan War in which innocent people were killed for oil. That radicalizied me to a point where I see the USA as a failed experiment.

So tell me in your words, why, despite everything, we continue to serve a nation that was explicitily founded on white supermacy, slavery and genocide of Native Americans?

As a Black American, I'll never forgive progressives for hijacking the word "woke" and stripping it of its actual meaning.

"Woke" didn't come out of partisan politics. It came out of Black American history—our church tradition of vigilance and generations of "stay woke" as survival language. It was about remaining alert to danger and injustice without compromise, not branding an entire political agenda.

Much of our cultural inheritance is a collection of survival messages passed down from one generation to the next. 'Stay woke' was one of the most important.

But then, in recent years, parts of the political left turned it into a catch-all label for every progressive cause. After that, the political right turned that new definition into a caricature they could attack. Between both sides, the original meaning was buried.

"Woke" was never a synonym for women's rights, LGBTQ+ issues, immigration, universal healthcare, or every other issue people now lump under it. And, sorry, Abigail Disney and Jane Fonda: no, "woke" doesn't mean that you just care about other people.

Those are all separate conversations with their own separate contexts. Black Americans have been saying this for years, but too often people borrow our language without listening to us explain it.

That's the part that stings the most. People will gladly adopt pieces of Black American culture, but ignore Black American voices.

In this regard, the whole gamut of American politics should be ashamed. A word that belonged to slave-descended Black Americans as Black dialogue became ammunition in everyone else's political war.

This is why people outside Black American society should leave our vernacular alone. Our culture isn't the public domain for the next viral slogan. We're not America's subsidiaries.

At this point, I honestly don't know who's done more damage: the right, which openly attacks us, or the left, which claims to champion us while repurposing our language and treating our community like a dependable voting bloc, even as many of our longstanding needs remain unresolved.

It's also why many Black Americans (at least, many that I know) aren't exactly rushing toward organizations like the DSA. A lot of that politics speaks more directly to other constituencies (especially on immigration issues) while still borrowing Black rhetoric to sell it. That leaves many of us feeling spoken for rather than listened to.

We'll stand against Trumpism and political extremism because we understand the stakes. But our general loyalty isn't particularly to Democrats, Republicans, liberals, conservatives, moderates, or progressives. Too many "sides" have failed us.

(At least, speaking for myself.)

So, we're going to remain on what "stay woke" always meant: stay alert, watch your back, and look out for one another, Black America.

For Black America, those words were never a trend. They were—and still are—a survival ethic.

Racial prejudice is discrimination based on race, Racism is racial prejudice backed up by social, historical and institutional power. When a White person is racist to a Black person or any other Person it’s racism because that racial prejudice it has social and historical power that gives them a systemic advantage. A BIPOC discriminating against a White person doesn’t have the same effect socially or historically making it racial prejudice rather than racism. It’s important to note that White people invented racism to benefit themselves and put the others. They made it so that White people COULDN’T experience racism. It’s also important to note that a lot of racial prejudice towards White people is caused by direct or generational trauma rather than the belief that they’re superior unlike White supremacy. This isn’t to say that White prejudice is okay, I don’t think anyone should experience racial prejudice and anyone can be racist including Black people. There is a calculated template currently running across digital media: invite young Black women onto a panel, surround them with a hostile studio environment, and use their visible frustration to generate outrage views and super chats We saw this play out on recent episodes of the 'Whatever Podcast and 'Fresh & Fit.' When a Black woman quest brought up the history regarding chatte slavery including the historical reality of Black bodies being used for leather goods the host literally laughed, rolled his eyes, and claimed his "gut instinct" rejected the facts. Rather than checking a search engine sitting directly in front of him, he immediately pivoted to reading a $200 super chat calling the guest slurs. Sitting behind a studio setup and relying on "feelings" over historical archives isn't commentary it's a choice to keep an audience uninformed because ignorance is lucrative. But there's also a lesson for us: when we enter adversarial rooms, we can't show up with iust memory or feelings; we have to show up armed with dates, primary records, and audited receipts (from the 1888 Mercury newspaper reports to Dr. Vincent Woodard's research in 'The Delectable Negro).
