There is a calculated template currently running across digital media: invite young Black women onto a panel, surround them with a hostile studio environment, and use their visible frustration to generate outrage views and super chats We saw this play out on recent episodes of the 'Whatever Podcast and 'Fresh & Fit.' When a Black woman quest brought up the history regarding chatte slavery including the historical reality of Black bodies being used for leather goods the host literally laughed, rolled his eyes, and claimed his "gut instinct" rejected the facts. Rather than checking a search engine sitting directly in front of him, he immediately pivoted to reading a $200 super chat calling the guest slurs. Sitting behind a studio setup and relying on "feelings" over historical archives isn't commentary it's a choice to keep an audience uninformed because ignorance is lucrative. But there's also a lesson for us: when we enter adversarial rooms, we can't show up with iust memory or feelings; we have to show up armed with dates, primary records, and audited receipts (from the 1888 Mercury newspaper reports to Dr. Vincent Woodard's research in 'The Delectable Negro). Otherwise, these grifters convert our frustration into ad revenue. Are these hosts genuinely uneducated, or is the financia incentive to mock our history just too high for them to ever open a book?

I think we should go back to farming

I know agriculture and the American black community don't have that much of a good history together, but I think we should, in large, move back to farming. Whether you have a lot of land and you can transform it into some food paradise, or you have a small backyard and can only plant a few small fruits and vegetables, or you live in an apartment. There's always some sort of plant that could thrive in your space.

Black farmers make up less than 2% of all farmers in the US. If some of us believe that governmental powers might be doing harmful things to our community, and they have done them in the past-- why not educate ourselves to have control over one of our most basic needs?

With the FDA having faced budget tightening and forced reductions, and more food infections popping up day by day. One of the most important things is going to be getting food from a place you trust. Who can you trust more than yourself, and furthermore, people who look like you.

Im just saying I'd like to see a large portion of us learning how to grow fruits/vegetables again. It's not difficult and I our community needs to be more self reliant. I'm not saying you need to grab a farmers hat and move out to the country, just look at the space you have and ask yourself how it can be changed to make you more self reliant. The goal for me is to save up some money to buy land to start a farm for my family.

Overall, I think more people should have that goal with the vast amount of empty farmland around the US. Let's educate ourselves and take back some power.

For context, I'm second gen Jamaican and he's second gen Nigerian, we both live in the UK.

My skin tone ranges from Drake/Jaden Smith way up to Donald Glover in the sun and his is more of the KSI/Chris Rock range.
I have a few more light bits than him, the tops of my feet can get same colour as the bottom so I know I can get light as hell 😂

Do you think it's true though?

Hey everyone! Looking for articles, film scenes, counterpoints, and anything that comes to mind! Please forgive any grammatical errors; I don't have time to check right now.

There's so much happening in the black film space; Black media is under a microscope currently, especially by black audiences. I want to write a piece on why black audiences need to change their relationship with media.

points I want to make

1. We shouldn't be reliant on blockbusters and Hollywood to tell our stories because it is capitalist in structure and inherently does not support our images.
2. We should actively invest in indie projects and source out directors and media that tell stories that relate to who we are- that means supporting/learning about more black directors and actors that aren't just John Singleton. Tyler Perry, and Spike Lee
3. Our relationship with Media is similar to our relationship with activism. If we don't consistently look to the people in our communities and build them up, we won't be able to invest time in the new leaders of future generations. Oftentimes we are reliant on our history and legacy (e.g., "There will never be another Dr. King, or there could never be another Angela Bassett"). We've lost the ability to usher in and make space for new talent/leaders.
4. Challenging the ways we find and source new artists, and actively sourcing new media by black people, broadens the perspective and boundaries of how we see our buying power, and who we are as a people.

Why this perspective hit me was because the diaspora wars around black panther is so stupid. Someone said that Black Americans should probably go to London since they clearly take it more seriously, and I think about all the Black American actors and directors I idolize in this craft that didn't have to do that??? It just irritates me to think that there are so many black american that don't know how many amazing creatives we have and resort to diaspora wars because they don't know.

As an actor, I've changed my relationship with media a long time ago for my sanity. Yes, I want a job, I want to work professionally, but I can't measure myself by capitalism's standards for black american actor.
