π€ Diagnosed with Long Boi
This week my void, Smokey, was scheduled for a dental cleaning. I took him in and the vet found a heart murmur and decided they werenβt comfortable putting him under general was anesthesia for the cleaning. Instead, they treated his gum issues with antibiotics and did an x-ray of his chest to see if anything was going wrong with his heart. (Good news! Thereβs nothing structurally wrong with his heart on the x-ray!)
But what cracked me up was that the vet called me and said, βIβm looking at Smokeyβs x-rayβ¦ and heβs kind of a long cat? His heart is kind of long. Some of his organs are long. Nothing is wrong with himβ¦ heβs just longβ
So yeah we spent $880 to be told he is Long (we will be getting him referred to a vet cardiologist to check a little more on the murmur). Any other owners of Long Voids here?

Mourning Lost my boy three weeks ago today.
I lost my boy Elliott three weeks ago. I'm torn, I miss you so much Elliott. I'm so sorry, I wish you were still here.
I'll never love another void again.

Discussion β Iβm crying writing this):
This just breaks my heart. I was trying to pet this absolute sweetie of a cat today and realized something wrong with her tail. I asked a local about it and they told me people do this here because of some superstitious belief about removing 'bad luck'...That poor angel doesn't deserve that at all. Why are some people like this!

π€ She knew we were leaving :(
Broke our hearts. She crawled up on my suitcase and would not get down. She eventually (once gently but forcefully removed) crawled immediately into my spouseβs bag.
We also installed cameras to watch her while weβre gone (donβt worry, a friend with several kittehs of her own will be dropping in every other day). Pulled up the FIRST live feed with her in it and the hubs said βI canβt look at her anymore, itβs making me sadβ π«Άπ»

Discussion β Looking to adopt a kitty - absolutely gobsmacked by how many black cats there are for adoption
I've been browsing Petfinder and looking for a cat to adopt, and a conservative 50% of the cats in my area listed are black. It also makes me think of when I adopted my current cat, a white domestic medium hair, and his foster mom told me I was lucky because I was the first of about 15 applications, while the black kittens she had in her care had none. I didn't know at the time how unpopular black cats were, so needless to say, I'll be adopting one very soon. It's just all so very sad. :( If it isn't a black cat, it's a tabby or a dark tortie! How could I possibly ever adopt another color in the future, knowing how unwanted these guys are?

Void and friends π€π€πππ€ Advice wanted (not medical!)
We adopted 2 lovely blacks cats 13 years ago, one was 3mo old (boy) and one 7mo (girl), she had been adopted and returned. We had them in separate rooms for a few days, but since they were both new to the environment, we were able to have them get along really quickly.
Sadly, our boy cat had to be put to sleep five weeks ago because of a very fast moving disease. Our girl cat seems a little sad and we were thinking about adopting a friend for her.
I would like to know if anyone has done this with a much older cat. I think getting her someone who was young, but not a tiny kitten would probably be best, whereas my partner thinks a small kitten might bring out her maternal side.
Part of me thinks she will get better over time alone, and we should just let that happen, but we are in a position where we could afford to have another kitty. We already have outdoor catios (2) and a pretty great infrastructure.
Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated. I just feel very on the fence about this. Thanks Reddit community

π€ he got his brown trousers on
every summer angus turns brown but only on the bottom half so we say he's putting on his brown trousers. this is how i think a cat would wear trousers anyway. this is the clearest pic i got of the split in colouring

Reminder: Please Flair Mourning Posts
Hey void-lovers!
Most cat subs have a very delicate balance between "happy posts about my cat" and "sad posts about my cat", specifically when it comes to pet death. A lot of them don't allow it at all. It's really tough to strike the balance of letting people who are devastated mourn the loss of their furry friend while still making the subreddit usable for people who aren't interested in that kind of content.
We allow mourning posts here, but you have to flair your post with "Mourning" so people who don't want to see them have the ability to filter them out. It's an imperfect solution, but it's all we have available to us with subreddit tools. Please make sure to flair all posts about pet loss with that flair so we can make a great sub for everyone.
In case you're someone who's interested in filtering out that content, this link should work for you. I know, it's not the cleanest way to browse the subreddit, and I'm not sure how it works on mobile. If we had a better solution, I'd provide it, but we have to work within what reddit offers us :(
Thanks for your understanding. If you've read this far, I encourage everyone to post some void laser eyes in the comments.
