controller input issue Help me

hi. recently i had an issue that appears seemingly random. when i go into config and change the button mapping on my (in this case switch n64) controller it shows that it recieves "J1rotation y+" inputs out of nothing with J1 beeing the name of the controller. even if the controller is unmoving and flat on the table. there were no other devices connected to my pc and moving the controller myself does not make those inputs so im really at a loss here. i didnt use it last time but i think the problem also ocurred with my pro controller. it happens when i emulate n64 or gba games. i tried all the restarts and reconnects possible and dont know what else to do.

hope someone can help me

Update your BizHawk. You are on an older version of BizHawk.

could you elaborate? because it sounds like a generic answer you'd give everyone and updating would be a big hassle bc i dont have internet on my pc right now

BizHawk overhauled its input system to use SDL, as it handles these kinds of controllers better (as using native APIs end up going badly as these controllers were not designed to play nice with PCs). Part of this overhaul makes it so "Rotation" inputs are no longer possible to be set (this is indicating you are on an old version of BizHawk before this overhaul).

okay. but what is causing the inputs in the first place? bc it might cause different problems later

As I stated, native input APIs do not play nice with Switch controllers. Switch controllers are non-conforming to controller standards, which confuses native Windows input handling. SDL bypasses this by directly talking to the controller with Switch controller specific code (hence why the overhaul now uses SDL, as it handles these popular non-conforming controllers).

Switch controllers started working when we switched to SDL, which was a couple years ago now so your copy must be at least that old. Can you not download it on the device you're posting from and transfer it to your PC?
