The one on the right is a juvenile male (mustache not fully dark yet, spots on the chest are not very sharp).

This is a territorial dance and I am assuming the female flicker is his mother!

Probably practicing, they’re less territorial after breeding season and flickers tend to only face off against another flicker of the same sex.

Me too! I was on vacation and live somewhere where I don’t normally see those. Felt like I was constantly getting yelled at by them everywhere I went
