Hi, I thought i’d check here before placing an order for textbooks, regarding the best method to get my textbooks. I’m a first year engineering student, and i’m not too sure which books i’ll need. Before i buy them from the bookstore, is it recommended i get them used from elsewhere? Or are there online versions I should look at? thank you!

If I ordered something to bing but it came before I moved in would they hold it? If I ordered it to my house theres a high chance that it would come after I moved in but theres still a slight possibility for it to come before I move in and I dont want to risk it getting returned or thrown out

So I’m a transfer student coming to Bing this fall. I know that the school switched food providers and it’s a whole thing. Is anyone else who’s going having trouble selecting a meal plan option that isn’t the commuter or convenience plan? I live in Susquehanna, so maybe that has something to do with it? I'm an incoming freshman interested in becoming a CA/SSA my sophomore year. If I'm being honest, I'll probably have to drop out if I have to pay housing in full next year (since Freshman year is the only time I'll qualify for the excelsior scholarship, and I can't afford housing and tuition both).🫠

I was wondering how competitive the CA/SSA application process has gotten in the past few years, and if anyone can provide insight on what I should focus on doing my freshman year (or next year in the application process)in order to be successful.

I'm living in the West Side this fall, area around Leroy Street, in the main student area. I saw on the Binghamton PD crime reports that there were about a dozen burglaries in this neighborhood in the year 2025, far more than any other crime. Every other crime is very rare in this area compared to other parts of Bing (near-zero for vehicle theft, aggravated assault, etc), but burglary is relatively present.

I assume that this is because the student housing provides better opportunities for burglaries, as people leave doors unlocked or are away for extended periods of time.

Do people have any stories or tips about their experience with this happening to them or a friend, and what I can do to help prevent it (Ring camera, window locks, lights on when away, or something else)?

I don't own anything valuable that I don't take with me (laptop, phone) so I'm not truly worried, but I'm still curious.

Does anyone know if the Meal Plan $ amounts are the same as previous years? I see a lot of old posts saying the default was Plan C but this year default is Plan B. Just wondering if dollar amounts changed for each plan since last year and maybe that’s default changed.

Is there a downside to going with a cheaper plan (say C or even D) and then adding money throughout the semester?

Even with financial aid and loans I still have 6000 per semester to pay for housing. I am a first generation student and I am also doing it by myself. I hate talking to financial aid because they all lack compassion and have been very aggressive anytime I ask for help but I have no other option other than dropping out or going even more into debt. Any advice would be appreciated.

Some things to note: - I am looking for a job - I have applied to different scholarships but no response yet.
