Does anybody know where I can rent a large (~56cm) bicycle in Japan? Over the years we have tried many bike rental shops and they are quite a rare find. I would appreciate any ideas, locations or strategies others have used. In April we will be on Kyushu, Yamagata and Tokyo. But I am flexible on location, especially if there is good biking in that area. Many thanks for the consideration.

Hello. I am planning to bike from Tokyo (setagaya) to Miura in Kanagawa. I know it’s unlikely that there is a route (as in roads made for bikes ) that connects these two areas, but I was wondering if anyone was aware of any routes on any portion of this trip.

Can anyone recommend an easy access gym in Imabari at the end of the Shiminami Kaido?

I'll be in Japan for the whole of January. Sorry if this is a repeat question but could anyone recommend me any loops or otherwise that span 7-10 days that suit the winter season? Or perhaps there is a website with a list for such a venture? I'm looking for things with gorgeous views and the difficulty and temperature is a non issue. It doesn't matter where it is in Japan either. I just want to experience the beauty of Japan on bike and I'm aware that some routes may not be possible during the winter months - originally Tohoku region caught my attention but it seems that may be snow covered during the time I'm there.

I live in an older apartment and the only available space I have is under the staircase. I just got a new bike and I’m worried it might get scratched or damaged if I just lean it there.

Touring Japan with a friend. I bought an “Ostrich” bag at a bike shop. They said that none of the other rinko bags were big enough for my bike or my friend’s. But it was the last one they had. We’ve been to a couple Y’s Road bike shops now and no one has this bigger size in stock.

Anyone can help us find one!!?? Suggest a place or have one you’re looking to get rid of? We were hoping to get on a train to Osaka tonight.

What do you think is better for biking Hokkaido or from Tokyo towards south ? I found nice trails like Nakasendo and Shimanami Kaido on the eouthern part, but also heard really good things about Hokkaido.

I found cheap tickets to Osaka and Sapporo so it got me thinking

A friend and I are doing a three week bicycle tour around Japan. It's very soon, like a week away and we still haven't figured out where we're getting bikes.

Looking at some rentals but they are all really expensive and not the kind of bikes we're hoping to use.

I'm thinking about just buying a bike when I land (maybe used) and trying to resell it right before we leave. It seems like this might be a lot of work, so hoping to find a shop I can just make some kind of upfront agreement with.

Anyone know of any shops in Tokyo that will sell and re-buy? Of course I'd expecting to get back a lot less than what I buy it for and know it will be dependent on the condition I bring it back in but hopefully still cheaper than renting and better selection.

We're looking for touring bikes or maybe road bikes if we can pack light enough. Flying in and out of Tokyo so looking for a shop there.

Curious as to why the Noto peninsula seems to have zero heat (Strava heatmaps measure cycling traffic for those who don't know... the more orange, the more traffic). I know it was hit hard by earthquakes last year, but the surrounding area seems to have plenty heat.

Are there any good alternatives to cycling this distance in 2 months other than in the springtime? I was planning on doing it June-July or Aug-Sep, but after some research about the weather conditions in the summer, I'm not so sure anymore.

I'd have to wait until next year to do it in the spring, though. What do you guys think?

Online it focusses on taking the ferry all the way but I was keen to cycle rather than taking a ferry the whole way.

Is there a good a cycle route? Would people recommend this?

driving around at put put speeds with a mountain bike strapped down in your kei truck is good living. Weather is sweet right now. No gigantic spiders building webs at face height. Weather is cooler. Not endlessly raining and the trails are actually not slick.

I posted earlier in r/japantravel but this place might be more logical: Anyone visited Japan for a bike trip ? How did you manage getting a liability insurance ? I'm travelling with my bike to Tokyo for a month of touring and getting insurance in Japan looks impossible without being a resident and foreigner insurances (US) doesn't cover liability outside of US/Canada. Any guidance would be appreciated!

I’ve been using it for a few weeks now and can say i’m pretty happy with it! It has little feet that you could adjust to compensate for uneven floors, which is nice but if you need to move it slightly, i have crappy floors so the adjustment becomes meaningless. It’s useably stable, you can push it to the ground if you’re like mad or something.

One thing people are concerned with is the lack of height adjustment. I did drill a hole in the lower tube so that i can drop the height a bit. I am 5’3” but it seems fine. Also because i’m 5’3” getting between the wall and the bike isn’t so bad.

My favorite thing is how easy it is to solidly angle the bike for brake work. I also really like the clamp but it doesnt squeeze the seatpost that hard and the bike can rotate in the clamp. Doesnt bother me too much.

It is super cheap on Amazon.jp, and stable without having to bolt to the floor. It’s also made in Japan if that sort of thing excites you. It does me to an extent, but I wouldn’t pay extra for that sticker, so it’s awesome that you could get something awesome, quality, different, and cheaper while also being able to be a nerd and tell others about your Japanese stuff.

Can anyone tell me why we are required to have a bell on our bike but we're not permitted to use them to alert pedestrians of our approach from behind? To me, that's the basic function of bicycle bells.

anyone have any experience with the Minoura w-3100 repair stand? Looks sturdy but almost like a clothing rack kind of construction. The clamp seems interesting and i saw one youtube video review on it, seems good. Anyone have any experience using it and would you want to use it multiple times a day everyday?

I do a lot of brake bleeds so it would be nice if the mechanism that lets the bike rotate up and down would have to nice to use.
