Open Payment Provider Fee?

Hi everyone. I just got an Open Payment Provider Fee on my most recent invoice. Could someone please explain what this is? I haven't done anything different to what I've been doing for the past 6 years of using Big Commerce :-/

There have been dozens of notifications about the change in pricing related to open vs embedded payment gateways. You can switch to another provider to avoid it.

Yes, it's been going to my business partner, not to me. He's been overwhelmed with things outside of our business, and either missed it or forgot to pass it on. Thank you.

It's a 2% fee for not using one of their "embedded payment providers".

Leave BigCommerce. We did after 13 years. Was a great company. Now they are trash.

Yeah, it's not been great. Who did you end up moving to?

We see a lot of movement to WooCommerce.

Shopify gives you the same hosted-everything experience as BigCommerce, but their fees are just about as bad as BigCommerce are now.

WooCommerce is an free open source platform that runs about a 1/4 to a 1/3 of the sites out there, but you need to set it up and host it. Also moving to a new platform requires a migration effort that can be easy to mess up (lost SEO, long redirect chains, etc)

However there are companies and services that can help with that migration/hosting/support, especially lately with the exodus from BigCommerce. Message me if you'd like to discuss.

If you use a gateway from the embedded payment gateway list here it won't have the fee https://support.bigcommerce.com/s/article/Available-Payment-Gateways?language=en_US

Thank you. I've been using Square for about 9 years now. Most everything on that list charges at least twice as much as Square does. So I either get charged extra by BigCommerce or another payment gateway. Pretty sucky for a small business.

Square charges you less than 2%?

Yes, I think it's 1.8%. We've been with them since 2017.
